I don’t think we should erase history good, bad, or indifferent because if we do, we were doomed to repeat it . But that’s my opinion.

The carving definitely needs cleaning as that is part of the attraction. For those who want it remove, just don't look at it but don't dictate to the rest of us who want to see it. The last time I was there was in 1987 and they looked great and the laser show was amazing. But this laser show goes way beyond amazing and spectacular. My brother and I enjoyed walking back way to the top.

Some trivia about the Stone Mountain monument: 1. Although the KKK made private attempts at a monument in the early 20th century, the state commissioned it in 1967 and it was completed in 1972, meaning Walt Disney World is older
    2. Although the famous trio of Confederate generals is usually Lee, Longstreet, and Jackson, only Lee and Jackson appear on the mountain, with non-general Jefferson Davis as the third figure.
    3. Of the trio, only Longstreet actually fought in the state of Georgia, and he usually identified himself as Georgian (though he was born near Augusta but in South Carolina), so you’d figure he would appear on a monument in Georgia. But after the war, he supported the abolition of slavery and citizenship for Black people, joined the Republican party, and supported Grant’s presidential campaign. Longstreet has only two memorials built for him, and one of those is at Gettysburg.
    4. Longstreet’s second wife (a late marriage) died in 1962, only 10 years before the Stone Mountain bas relief was completed.

Please explain where you came up with this false information. Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee , and Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson are the gentleman carved on the face of Stone Mountain. Also until resently the park was owned by the Daughters of the Confederacy, known klan sympathizers. I've spent many summer nights on the great lawn watching the Lazer show. Back when the Olympic Games were held in Atlanta a lot of the events were held in Stone Mountain Park and ACOG or Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games actually wanted to blow the carving off the mountain (thankfully they didn't). It would be very shameful if we lost this monument even though it shows a dark point in our history. It is still our history either way. So otherwise please check your facts before you leave false information to mislead people who genuinely want to know the truth. Your so called trivia is part of the reason why we can't trust anything on the web. Also no one involved in the civil war lived into the 19 hundreds.

Having grown up in the Atlanta area, my childhood was filled with frequent trips to Stone Mountain Park. Each time we climbed to the top of the mountain, and back down, as my parents were too cheap to buy tickets on the Skyride. Though at times I have lived very close to the mountain, I have not visited in years. This is largely due to learned a lot about the problematic history of the mountain, or rather the problematic history of the owners of the property on which the mountain sits. None the less, I'm glad you had a great time, and look forward to your next adventure!

Hi there, and welcome to Atlanta and its surrounding area. I live in Powder Springs, to the west. I am from here, as were my parents, their parents and so on. I grew up going mostly to Kennesaw Mountain, but I love Stone Mountain, and I especially love the laser show. Musical bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd playing while watching the lasers pointed on the beautifully carved mountain is something my family and friends and I always cherished. I don't want to argue with anybody, and in my family, we have our flaws. I am a recovering alcoholic and addict and I will have 9 years sobriety this June. I have certainly brought grief and heartache, not to mention embarrassment to my family. But we worked it out. The one thing that wasn't tolerated as I grew up and, currently, was racism. I grew up in the 70s and 80s in the south. The N word means hate in my family, and it was never tolerated. I don't know what punishment would have been handed down to me or one of my two sisters by my single mom because none of us ever said it. We all hated it, too. All I'm saying is you can enjoy that show and not be racist. Also, I would like to invite you to Kennesaw Mountain as well. That one is less touristy and more historical. It was a major battlefield in the Confederate war. You can take a bus up the mountain and learn so much about history. Enjoy your trip. Stay safe. I love your videos!! P.S. that is the worst laser show ever. They used to have an amazing show and played amazing music. The final song was "Georgia " by Ray Charles. It gave you goosebumps.

In Stone Mountain Village, just outside the park, is Stone Mountain Cemetery, which is fascinating for many reasons, but for pop culture folx Stranger Things was filmed there (2nd season and 4th season), also right up the street from there is a little museum which is the Guinness Book of World Records holder for miniature chairs! It's in a small historic building, and the woman who collects/runs the place is wonderful.

Funny story, I went to stone mountain in the late 90's with a school trip. We watched the laser show, and I got hit in the eyes with the laser. After that for a while I could see things in 3-D.regular pictures and I could easily see those blurry 3-D pictures they used to have to stare at very easy. The show has changed alot. Great video

In 1985 my new wife and I spent part of our honeymoon here. At the time, the park honored its civil war history, but was also a place of remembrance fro those who fought for the south, for their homes, and states. Most were fighting in a war they'd gotten caught up in, against an invading army, who was burning and destroying homes and towns. The laser show back then was quite new, and projections as we have them today, were years away. Then the laser show focused on the war, and at one point you'd see the nation separate into two halves. They'd then outline the carved generals and bring them to life, with their horses galloping. The show continued and covered the war's end, and that map being reunited. The main focus was One Nation, America, and by the end of the show, with the lasers, fireworks, a beautifully told history, and music, you were so very proud to be an American. I was hoping one day to go back. I do love the improvements to the train. but after hearing they will no longer be caring for the great carving, a work of art and a history lesson we need not forget, closing down the museum, and in general doing their best to erase the parts of history they find offensive, I don't really care to any more. Erasing a nation's history, good or bad, is the tool of tyrants. Erasing the civil war from Stone Mountain is as bad as erasing African folk tales from Splash Mountain, simply because some object. Any history lost means it is no longer there to learn from, and future generations may well just repeat the mistakes of their ancestors.
