I have the Exclusive 2019 model and love it (its my first ever GS) Before lockdown it had taken me to Spain-Norway (arctic circle)-Germany-Sweden. It's now being used mainly as a blood bike for Essex Bloodruners. With 18.5 miles on the clock, it's a thing of beauty and doesn't let me down.

Many thanks for the video. I had a 2014 GS, then a 2016 GSA and now have the GSA 1250 HP; I can honestly say that each bike has got better and agree with Ivor and others that the new engine/bike is smoother and faster. I have been using Bridgestone Battlax A41 Adventure tyres on my current and last bike, and find them to be excellent in both dry and wet conditions; I cannot comment on off-road. Cheers, Andy

I have the same GS as you, I would not swap it for the HP. Cast wheels easier to clean, plus I do not like gold wheels which seem to be getting more popular. As regards washing the bike, use a warm air drier to dry the bike, one of the best bits of kit I have bought, it will get rid of the residual water on the engine fins.
I really like my 1250 GS Exclusive!!

Nice review. I treated myself to a 1250GS TE Rallye for the usual reasons. The brand, the model and the service BMW provide, without even taking one for a test ride.. A winning combination. For quality and reliability it is second to none. There has to be a reason why such an expensive bike is so popular and I think it is a combination all all these reasons. There are also so many ways it can be personalised to the owners taste and yes I am no exception! It is a very expensive bike to buy but Now I have it I do not regret paying the high price as it is worth it. You get what you pay for and it is a bike that’s a keeper so you do not have to keep changing it ever few years so perhaps that helps to justify buying it over the long term.

    • @SmileyoureonTV

Genuinely, I’m usually chasing the new year the next newest model, I stuck with the Triumph Tiger from 2012 to 2019 when I eventually tried and bought the 2019 R1250 it’s a brilliant bike it just does it all. I’ve even tried doing some off road work with BMW in Wales UK and it’s just beyond what I expected. I will buy again but it does need to be a complete new engine possible lighter or a 1300 who knows but I’m not over keen on the current version over mine for the cost to change. Thanks for subscribing going to make it the channel for the bikers

Thanks for the HP exhaust comment. I bought the 2020 GSA Exclusive, and was considering doing the upgrade. In Canada I'm seeing about $1500-1800 for that upgrade, which is crazy if you ask me. I've bought a lot of slip ons in my life, most at least 1/2 that price.
Still laughing at your hot exhaust slip up, brought tears to my eyes.

I Really understand what you`re saying about the “bond” thing. I had it with my previous 1200 GS - Excusive style / 2018 -. I decided to up grade for the 1250, (because it is, in fact , an up grade), but I found the new bike a little less comfortable, strangely. I didn`t create that bond with it yet...I`m waiting for that to happen. It is getting the first service now, and I expect to explore more, in order to achieve the full expectations. The engine feels a lot different, bettered and improved, the gear box and the breaks also. But there`s something about the suspension...I can’t tell yet. Don’t know what it is...I had the seat on the low position ( the previous bike), just to control better everything when I`m riding with my wife ( with the panniers installed too), but I`m thinking if I should change it for the higher position in order to get the comfort, we are missing.
Thanks for the very interesting video and for the opinion concerning this specific model and its different “ages”, and versions. About the cleaning. When you wash it, do you dry all the water with air compression? Maybe it is the better procedure to eliminate the particles that get stuck on that hidden spots where is difficult to clean everything well. Sorry for the obvious suggesting (it is well intended). I will be looking forward to the next video, with your thoughts about the Brand. that is an interesting subject.

Hi, thanks for the comments, very thought provoking, I was talking with a friend that has upgraded to the new 1250 from the 1200 and he was not happy with the suspension on the auto setting, it liked to be able to set it for two up with luggage and now its auto it appears to be bouncy, I've experienced this too. recently me and mrs smile did the Yorkshire Dales, I always overpack, I think its a disease, we went round one bend in the road and bottomed out the bike (scary) my bond is stronger when the bike is clean.

Rallye HP is much faster than the Exclusive - it means High Power :) I had a similar experience with my previous GSA. Even though I am 6' tall, I never felt comfortable with the Standard Suspension. The seat pushed me towards the tank in every which setting possible. I even bought a device to lift the front and lower the rear. I kept the bike for less than a year and moved to GS Rallye with the lower suspension. Also, my GSA had the noisy Michelin 80/20s which I never liked. Now, very happy with the 1250 GS Rallye. The good news about the GS in the US is the resale value is very high, so getting in and out of the bike is no problem.

    Hi,
Nice quick comparison between these two beauties. I love the aesthetics on the new rally version.
I'm in the market for my 1st real motorbike.
    I'm nearly forty and 177cm & 56Kgs.
I've always wanted a 1200GS but i feel that it would be too big & heavy as my 1st motorbike in 12 years.
So i've been considering the F750GS instead.
I like offroad stuff but i am inexperienced there, other than being pretty exprienced in MTB.
I want a bike for the road, above all. specially long distances..also a weekly commute.
    What do you reckon ?
    Thanks very much

Good review. Thanks. Thinking of changing my Triumph Tiger XRT for a GS1250 RALLYE or Exclusive. Your views are really useful. Great idea to review customer service from BMW dealerships. In my opinion about my local dealerships. One is purely bikes and is very poor, the other is cars and bikes and seems brilliant. Is this down to individuals or company culture? Test rode a 2020 R1250GS Exclusive today. Not for me which was surprising. I was thinking I might trade up. Main issues were the Ride was too stiff on Road with 38 psi in the tires. Also the seat was too hard and caused some numbness where you don’t want it after only 25 minutes. I was surprised by a lot of noise from the front tire. Would need the bar risers but overall I liked the seating position just not the seat. Power was really nice as was the handling. For now I will hang onto my ‘16 K1600GTL.

I have had 3 GS 1200s last two LC , and the current one TE triple black sept 15.. fully paid off 30k miles.. i just cant see why I would buy an upgrade... and spend £18k less trade in.. I was on a trip last year and rode a KTM 1290 Super adventure S for a week, another guy had the new GS 1250 and we swapped for a day.. and apart from being a bit smoother and quieter .. I went back on the KTM with a big smile on my face... because that was different... and if i had a dealer closer i may be tempted to change for a KTM.. but at moment love my Triple black.. heres to another 30k of free mileage.. ps what about the lack of colour choice !!! whats that all about.. first watch, will subscribe

its all about time of life regards motorcycles, I've never owned a KTM and the 1250 is my first GS, I didn't like the 1200, I preferred the Triumph Explorer at the time, money is hard earnt so not changing too often and loosing money is the game that has to be played

I had a 2016 then 2018 1200 TE GS before getting a 1250 same as Ivor and preferred the 2016. I think it was the gen2 suspension, the 2016 seemed better planted and handled better. I also didn't like the Panaky 3 Michelins either. The 1250 is a better engine by far pulls better revs better will perform the same as the 1200 in top gear rather than having to use the box on the 1200. The gearbox is better, the GSAP smoother and the Hillhold is better on the 1250 than it was on my 2018 model 1200. Thy the Conti Trail attack 3's - I've still got the Bridgestone A41s on mine which I much prefer over the Michelins and wear Aurotech earplugs so can still hear my satnav. You forgot to mention crud catchers, there's a bloke from Stourbridge that sells nice ones for £35 on ebay. You can get a copy of the MA front fender extender one off ebay for under a tenner as opposed to over 50. I like the Machine Art x heads rather than engine bars as I think they look nicer on the exclusive plus if you do drop it you can buy just the 1 side from Nippy plus they're cheaper than the engine bars too. The other thing with the wheels is apparently the alloys are lighter so the bike will steer slightly quicker as it has less unsprung weight. Allegedly 😁

    • @SmileyoureonTV
      @SmileyoureonTV  3 роки тому

thats two recommendations for the Conti Trail attack 3's interesting to think the alloys will react better in a turn than the wire wheels, so m any parts to spend money on!

As someone who can see the appeal of tele-lever, boxer & shaft, I struggle to actually want one. I have an Africa Twin. While it has none of the above features, the quality and value for money it offers is great for me. Despite it being a BMW best seller, the quality of some of the materials, high cost of repairs and execution of the GS just does not grab me. I have the cash but cannot see £20k worth of experience no matter how I look at it. The Loncin engine range are mediocre at best in my view. The Japanese brands have products that appeal more to me. If BMW were more commercial or used better materials, I might be swayed.🤔

Hey Ray, it’s really interesting considering the value for money aspect, as most of these bikes don’t have 20k in them as you say the Honda is very capable and my local dealer has been trying to get me to try one for years but he started when they were too damn tall, you see I have a short bottom and therefore it’s like riding a MX bike. I think it’s a good compare so I may do a video on what I think soon. Oh and the value of the bike just crept up on me through trade ups a little here and there.

The Rallye should not have an EU badge on the number plate seeing as we left the EU (politically) last January.

Tell Ivor his eBay thing - (fitted with crappy cable ties) is ridiculously nasty on a £20K bike

I have to agree but it serves a purpose until a better solution can be found.

Why are they still supplying bikes with the euro plate? if it had a union flag you wouldn't require a sticker when we are allowed to travel.
