*iOS 9 on iPhone 4S vibes*
It was slow but man, as someone who used that phone on iOS 9 up until 2017, i can tell you it was nowhere near this buggy
Literally my iPhone 8
It’s more like iOS 11 vibes. I remember iOS 11 was also super buggy especially when it first got released.
my ipad mini 1 is on ios 9 its okay i never see a bug just the slownes bit its acceptable beacouse the age of the device :D
iOS 8 is horrible on my iPod touch
I absolutely feel you.
I’ve been an android user for decades now and just recently made the switch to an iPhone 13 Pro Max. And I have to say it is absolutely the buggiest glitchiest piece of garbage cell phone I have ever used in my life.
From capacitive touch issues with the screen to the keyboard, not functioning properly, skipping spaces, putting a period four spaces at the end of a sentence, UA-cam video going black while still hearing the audio, rotation getting stuck, and on and on.
As absolutely soon as humanly possible, when my finances come together, I will be moving back to android. I have had it with the iPhone.
Never AGAIN will I buy this worthless TRASH over Android.
1000%%% i agree i used iphone 15 pro max recently and hated so bad so i returned it and got myself s24 ultra and never looked back
I’ve had the opposite experience tbh
Same feeling bro bought 13 after 10 years of android, this piece of garbage doesn’t work properly
@@kartikpareek-nn4fb yeah 13 is garbage really bad device compare to modern android flagship models
@@zappsoimilk I downgraded to 13 from my ancient galaxy s9
Im done with iOS 16
Heres another two bugs:
- the unresponsive and laggy screen AKA FROZEN IPHONE that needs a hard reset to get it working again
- the buggy ultra slow and momentarily unresponsive OS, and this one particularly makes the keyboard suddenly start spamming keys at light speed
@justin blow fr
I get rid of a my iphone 12 Pro Max because a lot of bugs on iOS, break down a lot and cost a lot a money for repair. I bought Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 for €250, I owned a Redmi Note 11 for 2 years and I don't have a issues. Ever I updating a latest version of Hyperos and I didn't have a issues at all.
Ironically, hearing you talk about all these bugs in iOS 16 made me realize just how stable my Samsung Note 10 is. It has rarely ever done anything wonky.
It just works! (To the point that I just take it for granted). Ironic indeed. I love your videos and your presentation and I hope all of this works out for you very soon.
Same here, I'm shocked to see how buggy the iOS 16 is when I hear all the time that Apple iPhones are stable. I have a Samsung Note 20 Ultra that I held on and it works great with no issues.
i use a note 10 too and its the best i have ever used
I have an A series and still haven't experienced many bugs. Only app crashes but they're rare. The worst bug I've had recently was the phone restarting during charging. But it stopped for some reason. I think it was an app I downloaded that may have been taking up an excessive amount of memory
those note 10 phones are still lit could last for a another 5-7 years and still be lit
@@fegik5922 fact.
This happened to my device twice, and as first I thought something were wrong with my phone until I saw people talking about it online, and having similar problems. It sucks, but I'm glad knowing I'm not the only one facing these issues.
My phone actually decided to reset in the middle of a very important🤣 phone call I was making at 10% battery charge and lets not forget about the trash lightning connectors that seem to only die when not connected to a mac.
This bug was happening quite regularly on my iPhone SE 3rd generation a while back.. Would press the home button and the taptic engine would respond but screen would stay off and then phone would reboot after a while.. Seems to have been fixed in an iOS update, sad to see this same thing now happening on other iPhone models.. Also the iOS 15 software that my phone came with out of the box had a problem where my phone would just randomly crash every few days and when checking the logs it was a kernel panic each time.. Was quite shocked to encounter severe bugs like this on a new Apple device 😢
glad i saw this, same here had to do the volume up and power button trick
The stupid flashlight keeps turning on, half my voicemails are garbled, and voicemails stop if I just put the phone up to my ear. 😡🤬😡
yep, this happens to my iphone xr frequently and i thought it was the incel screen i installed on it
The worst part in all of this, I MADE A BUG REPORT with the feedback app / site to let Apple know about my issues with audio playback (audio skipping after a call has been made with any app). It hasn't even been opened since NOVEMBER 2022. I am seriously mad. Thank you for shedding light on this abselutly ridicule problem (btw, love the new content direction !)
Then it will be automatically closed because of inactivity😂
I don’t have this issue on my iPhone 8+, so it might just be your headphones
There are many old bugs, like Siri stuttering in Shortcuts. They never get fixed. Basic features like reading the weather forecast via Siri after stopping my morning alarm are broken since years. For me Apple is full of shit in some areas.
@@half-qilin Happens with any lightning audio peripheral, so not quite.
Why I have zero issues?
One thing I absolutely HATE is how my iPad kills itself when it’s storage gets to full.
It’ll get its storage full, it’ll give me a loading icon with a black background, I’ll be stuck on the Lock Screen, trying to escape results in that same loading screen again, I’ll force restart it...
I then delete photos, and I get more storage for about a week. Then it’s full again. I DONT EVEN USE IT FOR A WEEK AND ITS STORAGE IS FULL.
I also hear stories about people’s devices being bricked because the storage is too full. Seriously, why hasn’t Apple fixed this yet?
To be fair, if you run any computer at full storage capacity than you will eventually run into operating issues or a slow/delayed experience. This is because computers use the storage to do normal everyday operations as well so when you fill it up with data than it runs into a wall ocasionally. I empathize with you though that is frustrating. I personally regret swapping to a 14 Pro Max every sing day. I run into bugs left and right with this thing. I never had any issues with the multiple Samsung Android flagship phones I have had over the years. Figured I'd give the iPhone a shot. Never again.
While I am an Android user, I always carry an iPhone with me for the good part of the last 10 years. I've been trough everything from 4S, to 5S, 6 and 6S, 8, X, 11 and now 13 Pro and similar bugs are ocurring for me regularly especially the keyboard playing hide and seek. This was not limited to latest iOs versions, nor to the iPhone 11 and 13 Pro. The keyboard constantly wanted to play with me troughout all years with all iPhones.... I've always told different friends and Apple Fanboys regarding this, showed them Screenshots, videos and what not - they never confirmed nor beleived such issues are present. So I concluded that Apple Fanboys tend to ignore those bugs if they are on an iPhone and only notice such if they occur on Android, Windows, etc. But I'm glad that finally a Fanboy made a nearly 12 minutes video to acknowledge those issues, as they are simply annoying. I might also send this to my friends now :)
Yeah, after a long time I shifted to IOS but IOS is not so good as I thought. I hope Apple will take it seriously to fix those issues.
Same here! I'm a long-time Android user but have some iOS devices (iPhone 7, iPad 8th gen). There are definitely many things I appreciate about iOS but also quite a few things that annoy the hell out of me. 😂
I just want to roll my eyes at the "it just works" mantra, haha.
Bro used all iPhones and saying that he is a Android User💀
Hide and seek with your keyboard? Same though.. I'm using ip11 rn.. thanks god I got a backup phone which is an android.. how about flickering while watching UA-cam? quite rare but still...
oh god i thought im the only one.
Good for you, Luke, for breaking out of the "iOS and Apple are perfect and everything just works" mantra of most tech UA-camrs. As an Android/Pixel user, I've been tempted to try an iPhone from time to time (my first). This video gives me pause, and I thank you for that!
Android guy here myself. All operating systems have bugs but what I see here is a bit too much for Apple. Never owned an iPhone but I admire their attention to detail which is why I am a bit surprised by all this.
He's never been that way. You just start watching his videos today?
@@Pogey_Bait I didn't say he was, where did you get that?
Pixel gang 🤙
I will say if you’re a small phone enthusiast the iPhone mini is currently the best bang for your buck. I got a refurbished iPhone 12 mini for $262 on backmarket which is a steal considering it has flagship features
I’m an avid android user (previously had the Samsung galaxy Note 4, S10, and S20) but I’m tired of smartphones getting so large so I got the iPhone mini.
I do miss a few things like the back button, the clipboard, and customization. If an android smartphone manufacturer made a smartphone the size of the iPhone mini or the original iPhone SE I would totally switch but for now the smallest android device is made by zenfone.
Also I don’t count the Z flip 3 as a small phone because it’s more like a portable phone. When opened it’s the size of a normal phone and has the same problems (not usable one handed, not lightweight, top heavy, cannot reach entire screen, etc.)
The camera switching between lenses as I'm trying to shoot is a design flaw, not a bug, which makes it even more frustrating. To reproduce, it occurs more on closeups and/or low light.
As you said, this is on purpose. It switches automatically to the makro lens bcs the normal lens cant focus anymore bcs you are too close on the object you are filming.
You can turn that off in the settings btw
I turned off the macro mode. My other pictures were always terrible because it would always come up
@@grpl69 howww please tell me lol
"We don't sell junk'', said Steve Jobs.
But they did
😂😂😂😂
I thought I was going crazy. Macrumors gaslights people into thinking they’re just not smart enough to use iPhone. The joy of the first iPhones were that as a first time smartphone user, you could easily and intuitively figure anything out by fiddling with the phone for a few minutes. IOS is bloated with options and settings that are always defaulted in the worst possible way. Don’t even get me started on the keyboard and predictive text. I use to be able to type multi-line texts on my android in seconds, but on iPhone 12 it takes twice as long to fix all the insane word replacements.
There’s also changes in the UI that made experience worse. For example, Apple removed the knob from sliders in iOS 16. Now, I accidentally change something every time I try to see more notifications by swiping up (I tap on the text to avoid) or when I’m carrying my phone with my hands
This is actually very annoying at times. Sometimes I skip hour long podcasts or songs by mistake
every. time.
Wanna read notifications? Why not suddenly increase the headphones volume to 100%?
Same here - really aggravating.
@@Akaiiro This. Super annoying when that happens. Also UA-cam videos btw
Its insane that a high end manufacturer that charges the prices they do, and make design choices (they say) to make the best possible user experience releases such a janky operating system. One of the last real bastions of apple's phliosophy is UX and hardware/software integration which no other company can boast (they say) and they're fucking that up
I've seen many of these bugs on my iPad too, so this is not limited to iOS. And the last sentence of your video, "Doesn't matter how good the hardware is if the software sucks" kind of translates to the iPad too. We finally need a powerful OS for the iPad, I don't care if it's Mac OS or something else, but it's absurd how I can't rely on the Files app to work on iPad and how many times I experience data loss on a $1000 device.
Why I have zero issues?
I would seriously contact apple and report your issues to one of the techs. They will run some diagnostics on your device to see if anything comes up such as software issues or hardware issues.
Once a report has been made try to capture screen recording of the issue in action that way you can include that In the ticket. Good luck
@@imho4990 I don't know and I am happy for you. But working on the iPad with Microsoft word and other cloud services than iCloud or OneDrive - which, unfortunately, is necessary for my workflow - leads pretty often to Dataloss and as far as I can see it's not an error of my iPad but generally the problem of iPadOS's files app which really doesn't work well with cloud services.
@@mapakern3979 "with Microsoft word and other cloud services|
ask Microsoft.
I always thought ipad run on ios too
I use an Android Phone (Pixel 6 Pro) myself but we use iPhones at work. Tbh I have experienced way more annoying bugs on iOS than on Android (e.g. not being able to hang up calls sometimes).
To be clear: I am not hating on Apple, I own an iPad which I absolutely love and I may get a MacBook at some point and there are many things I like about the iPhones at work but my experience with iOS was worse than on Android. I have experienced my fair share of bugs on Android, but for a platform which has stability as one of its main selling points this is kinda bad
Traded in my 14PM 3 months ago for an S23 Ultra because of 16 bugs and continued lack of innovation on the iPhone overall. There's a few things I miss, but not enough to bring me back. Apple needs to step up their game.
Good video Luke. I couldn’t agree more. In my opinion there are two things Apple should do. Short term: iOS 17 - focus on fixing iOS 16 bugs. Long term: start releasing their systems every other year. i.e. 2023 - mobile systems, 2024 - macOS. There is no need to upgrade your OS every year.
I whole heartily agree with both these suggestions. Insightful and clearly explained.
true, quality over quantity
Agree. I’m sick of the “change for the sake of change” Philosophy here. We dont need updates every two weeks. If it works don’t mess with it until you have something that’s an actually improvement
Now that iOS is matured about as far as it can go, I totally agree. They can always do a point release if they really really want to add a feature.
I'm curious how much this has to do with the newer iPhones. On my 11 Pro the only bug I've experienced with any regularity has been the squared notifications (plus the recent global weather info outage).
Regardless, all in on iOS 17 being focused on smoothing out bugs and improving performance.
Same here !
Good point, that could well be the case, because apart from the Wheather-App my iPhone XR is not behaving too badly...
I don't know, I'm on a 11 Pro as well and have seen quite a few of the bugs as well, even the phone locking up completely but not as often. But yeah overall iOS 16 has been quite a mess on my 11 Pro as well, maybe it's not as bad as newer ones or maybe your just really lucky.
Same. My 11 on 16.0 is *knock on wood* rock solid, no glitches.
not much issue on iPhone 8+ with 16.4 beta. the one issue i had was unable to pick up a call as the button wasn't responsive. Today just upgraded to 16.5 beta and no issues so far
After watching this I can comfortably say that I’m NOT alone with all these bugs. The worst I had was the inability of SENDING SMS after uploading to iOS 16 for like a solid two months and a half (yes, I do send SMS to some contacts). And if it is true that iOS 17 comes to fix all those bugs then I’m in, but for Christ sake do it sooner
No auto spam filtering either
Apple be like: "No SMS for you!"
My Pixel 6A is better than iPhone Pro devices with 120 hz 😂
As a mechanic at Hyundai, I do a lot of recalls and software updates on cars which require me to use my phone to take pics of the current software incase it goes wrong, it slows me down when I have to restart my phone because the CAMERA IS LIKE SHUTTERINNG THING like in the beginning of the video!!!!!
As An iOS 15 user contemplating on updating I’m glad you help me decide
same, got my 13 Mini on iOS 15.6.1 in January and don't plan on updating soon!
Same, was thinking of updating my 8 Plus from iOS 15 to 16 but after watching this video I’m glad I didn’t!
@@TheKDKCollector I’ve 8 plus with iOS 16 latest but didn’t get those bugs
I guess it’s only in 14s with dynamic island (as all the iPhones with bugs in the video had that dynamic island)
@@AB-ei6tx Dude, I'm also on 15.6.1, which works perfectly! Looks like I'm skipping iOS 16 entirely and jumping straight to 17. I'm counting on Luke to let us know if it's an improvement. I wish other big Apple youtubers would give these issues the same level of attention.
@@AB-ei6tx same on my 12 pm
Honestly, I upgraded to the iPhone 14 PM only because Apple would not help me either through customer support or via Genius Bar. I had terrible bugs mainly on the 12PM though. Those included: (as unbelievable as it sounds) it called 911 TWICE by itself. Sometimes volume on headphones would skyrocket and hurt my ears if I pressed the volume down button. It restarts by itself with no reason whatsoever. Bugs at notification, similar to yours. And many more.
I took it to the Genius Bar, explained all my problems, and they said my phone was fine. I did pay for AppleCare so I thought they would be able to fix my volume or my AirPods. But they said I had no problems. I couldn’t continue with them since they didn’t seem to want to help me.
Later that month I decided to get the Note 20U 5G. Worked like a charm. No volume problems leaving me with short bursts of tinnitus. Notifs we’re great, my phone never restarted, and it just worked. Downside was battery, so I kept using my 12PM for trips and video.
I upgraded to the 14PM 2 years later. I have had those exact issues you describe. Although I just got the phone about 2 months ago, I am contemplating trading it in at Samsung OR see if these issues will be fixed in iOS 17.
If anyone has a solution please let me know. Thank you for reading my essay, albeit unorganized. 😂 have a good one y’all.
WE NEED TO BRING BACK IOS 6 UI
I remember a time when I was debating whether to stick with iOS 15 on my iPhone 13, or giving iOS 16 a try. I honestly regret upgrading to iOS 16, it's been nothing but problems and strange quirks ever since. I could live with the more benign bugs, like certain app notifications not pushing as they should, or downloads of new apps in the app store being borked until after the third reboot of the phone, but it's another story when performance is impacted.
The worst bugs by far have been the random drop-outs and connectivity issues with all the wireless radio stuff. Random bluetooth dropouts, less precise GPS, getting the "Wi-Fi connection might not have internet access" message and a weak signal when I'm literally standing right next to the WAP in my home. My biggest gripe is the spotty cell service where I consistently had reliable 5G connectivity and full bars before in iOS 15. I know whoever is reading this is thinking "But wait, that sounds like a hardware issue!", but when I reboot my phone all those problems go away for a little while. Everything starts working fine for about a day, and then things start to degrade to like before. Literally the only thing that changed was upgrading to iOS 16.
Just the other day I was contemplating about updating my iPhone 13 to iOS 16 from 15, but the recounting of your woes about the same has been enough of a deterrent for me to not even look at that iOS update notification in the Settings app for quite a few months to come.
@@Ishan716 I've just installed 16.4.1 today. So far, so good, but only time will tell.
I couldn't recommend staying with 15 more if I tried. It's not worth the customizable lock screen and extra emoji support.
@@foxyloon I got over those "customisations" while using my old Galaxy S4 as a school faring kid eons ago, as I'm sure many others did as well. I’ve been experiencing these too. Thank you for calling them out.
Yearly September iOS updates do generally start off a bit buggy and unstable I find, but within a few months they start to level out and become stable. However with iOS 16 I feel its not greatly improved since its initial release
The bugs, instability, and incompatibility in MacOS is what drove me to windows. I still stuck by IOS until last year when my iPhone 12 started having many of the issues featured in this video. I am a pilot, and so getting stuck somewhere unable to use my phone is a scary thought. Over this year I was getting maybe 4 hours of battery life when not even touching it and my charging port died so I could only use magsafe. I work with android a lot for work and school and have always found it to run better and offer so much more than ios, so this month I made use of AT&T's Samsung deal and traded the 12 in for a S23. I can say android is a welcome breath of fresh air. I am never going back.
did you really get a more stable and bug-free experience on windows? i had a completele reverse experience, so im curious why that is
also which version of macos and windows did you use?
@@t-posekoichi2752 I did. I didn't even buy a PC for the sake of switching, I just wanted a gaming rig (HP Omen 30L). I still thought MacOs was superior, thinking that the bugs and compatibility issues would be even worse on windows. The machine shipped before windows 11, so it ran 10. I was instantly amazed at how smoothly it ran. It felt so much more complete. Within a day I made it my main computer. Even after switching to windows 11, the only time it has ever crashed it was entirely my fault. During my first year at college the day before classes started I nearly threw my 2018 iPad Pro, which had been my "laptop" for several years, out the window after (routine) ios issues. I went to best buy and bought (literally) the last laptop in the store, a low-end lenovo IdeaPad 3 15.6 inch. Almost two years later it has nevet let me down.
In fact, I still use my mac mini (Core i7 64GB ram 2TB ssd) as my home desktop when I'm at school. I am getting a new laptop that will fit my needs better for next semester and my lenovo will replace the mini as my home computer, purely because it has been more reliable. The mini won't go waste, tho. I have some plans for how to still use it.
To answer your question, yes, absolutely yes I have gotten a FAR better experience with both windows and android. I have gotten it from both a low-end and a high-end PC, and the same for android. I have family and friends who still use MacOS religiously and refuse to believe that its the problem. They complain about all the same bugs, and the ones with Apple silicon have it the worst. (Also I always and still do update all my computers to the latest software version, so I was and am running the latest version of MacOS).
Sorry for my little essay. I just feel very strongly about how Apple lied to us for so long. (Sincs 2012 for me).
@@upsidedownairplane4866 interesting for sure
ive been using windows on a pc since around 7/8 years ago
starting with 7, then 10
only recently around half a year ago now i had to get a laptop for school so i started using an old 2011 macbook air and despite being 11 years old for general usage it felt way better than my way more powerful pc
no crashes, pretty much 0 glitches, compared to windows 10 which for me blue screened atleast once every two weeks on a new install
december last year i upgraded to the 2021 14 inch m1 pro mbp and its been great, definitely noticed more glitches in post macos11 than on osx, which sucks, but nothing that breaks everything, mostly just visual stuff (im also on public beta versions, so not surprised), definitely way less than ive had on windows 10 though, for the amount of visual glitches ive had on macos13 ive had 1.5 times the amount on win10, but no critical system breaking glitches unlike win10
tried windows 11 too in virtualization (as trying to get it on my "unsupported" pc is a pain) and its terrible, from what i saw less glitches than 10, but ive not used it as extensively, so maybe not, but they completely destroyed anything it had going for it in terms of customization, not to mention the horrendous design (like genuinely, why can i not remove the network icon from the now grouped notification tray icons in the system tray area??)
from windows 7 it seems for me each version of windows gets worse and worse, especially as a power user...
not to mention microsoft needing to push everything they make down your throat, forces you to use an online account unless you literally dont have a connection,
you need to spend extreme amounts of time to get rid of their stuff properly
you cannot even remove edge without something breaking, and if you do not completely remove it, just unpin, remove shortcuts, etc, and not use it, ive had it multiple times after a windows update on win11 ADD ITSELF BACK to the desktop, taskbar, and start menu, like what the fuck?
also after the same updates it added back the search box and task view buttons to my taskbar, after i deliberately removed them, again, wtf
on macos you can just click 2 times to not use an appleid,
some stuff you cant remove (which i do hate), like stocks, siri, photos, home, photobooth, because its for some reason in the read-only part of the system, but you can just not use them, and ignore them completely, they dont randomly open, try to get you to use them, or give you popups when you try to use an alternative app
to change from safari to a different browser you just change it in settings after downloading another one, it doesnt give you like 3 banners when you search for a different browser (like seriously, why is edge modifying google search's html for specific results for its own purposes, wtf)
having ads and preinstalled bs on a PAID and pretty damn expensive operating system is such a joke, gotta love having tiktok and candy crush in the win11 startmenu by default
not to mention windows has been losing functionality and been getting more frustrating to use every update
ive pretty much abandoned my pc for anything but games with anticheat that doesnt work under virtualization, nothing else, even a lot of games work on my apple silicon mac, definitely more than i expected, some run way better than on my pc, even though they are under so many translation layers its funny
(of course my pc is very old by now, but still)
sorry for the rant too :)
what in particular about macos did you have constant issues with?
also, could you elaborate in compatibility issues? im interested in what you mean by that
Yep I transitioned from apple to samsung many years ago and it's no comparison . The s10 plus and s23 ultra are incredible
@T-pose Koichi windows 12 has gotten alot of bugs fixes recently so for me it's been running smoothly
I don’t like how involved it is to change a wallpaper now, and I also think the amount of focus modes and stuff is super daunting for new users.
14 was pretty solid. My 12 mini sidearm still runs it.
Oh my god you have no idea how much it pisses me off to change my wallpaper now! So many issues with it from automatically blurring home screenwallapers to not even loading wallpapers because of the lack of ram on iPhones!!! Just horrible and they haven’t fixed it!!
iOS hasn't been good since iOS 14.
Just experienced this as well.. so frustrating. It happens several times in a row, I thought it was a new app I installed. So frustrating.. unacceptable for an expensive flagship phone to be dying suddenly and no way to fix
This happens to me a lot! Especially when it’s warmer out.
A strange bug I've seen quite a bit: The clock on the springboard will skip a minute. i.e. it will be on 08:18 for two minutes, then change to 08:20. Lock screen clock has always been up to the minute. The clock app seems fine as well. From what I've read, this bug has been around since at least iOS 9 (2015).
Oh wow, that’s a long time!
I had an iPhone X from 2018-2020 and this bug really irritated me
This used to happen to me on my iPhone 4 using iOS 7.
I believe this problem still exists, also this issue sometimes occur on my iPad and iPhone!
Hopefully IOS 17 will sort out several bugs that exists on IOS.
This bug is annoying me since years...
Glad to hear I’m not the only one encountering many bugs lately on my iPhone 12 mini.
The most annoying is the bug where the screen stays dark. But it always unfreezes after 10 seconds orso without crashing.
Oh well, I see it as a kind reminder how awesomely stable complex software has become in the last 15 years.
if it was android or oneui u will see tons of youtubers talking about it but if it is ios no one talks
salut to you man
thats because android is much more popular and its open source
This is why I love Android so much more lmao
It's way more stable
One thing that absolutely drives me mad is that iOS doesn’t accept touches when the screen is animating something like a message dialog or page slide. I find myself repeating touches 2-3 times before it’s registered because I haven’t waited for the entire transition animation to be over. It makes it so frustrating to use the phone!
Screen hitches, touch failure, and un-fluid scrolling was one of the things I used to bash android for

maybe a fix would be to turn of animations?
This is why i never update my phone if it works just fine as is. My iPhone 13 pro max still using the OS that it came with iOS 15.1.1
@@austinmahone6322 while that’s great in order to make sure your phone remains stable and snappy, it’s also extremely risky, as you’re forfeiting any security patches that come with the firmware updates. There’s been at least a couple serious patches since 15.1.1.
I've been saying this for a while. iOS is trending downward. I still absolutely love the OS and the device itself, but after notifications seemingly have gotten shafted over the past 5 or so years, everything else seems to just fall apart. About a month ago my phone would not turn on after charging fully. I had to DFU mode it and restart the phone that way.
I hope Apple changes something before their OS eats it own tail.
Considering they are watering down all of their software, I doubt it
4:18 yup. Until the most recent updates, this was an issue for me for a while
It's kinda funny, one of the reasons I picked up an iPhone (but an old XS Max for 3d touch lol) was because of more consistent updates, yet I'm currently staying on jailbroken 15.1 instead of updating
Jailbroken iphones sucks ass
I had a bug where widgets disappear from the homescreen and leave the space blank, that one is a classic for me. It has happened a lot of times now, and the blank screen has happened many times too but after a few minutes I can get back to using it again without restarting, but it definitely is annoying
Same here - the third party planner widget on my Mac crashes all the time and only reinstalling the whole thing helps
This happens daily for me
About the not responsive touch screen when picking up a call: it's a bug that's been there for a while, it's more prevalent now, but I remember it happening during iOS 6. I've found a work around though, when you receive a call from a locked screen, hold your finger for about a second on the green circle before starting the swipe instead of trying to do it all in a single motion. I don't know if it's garanteed to work 100% of the time though.
I have experienced various bugs in iOS 16, like the screen having lines flickering, the notifications getting messed up, and the app crashing while trying to open. Now I'm thinking about using Android, which I believe is more stable.
not iPhone, but I used to and still occasionally see my iPad air 4 just not receiving any charge, and I recall being so bewildered until thinking of resetting it, which at least fortunately worked.
I also remember how my iPad would so often show nothing but the clock (no top right battery or power menu indication), among other bugs...they were minor but it was then that my image of Apple always having amazing software or bothering to fix their bugs (Vietnamese keyboard is still a mess for instance) just disintegrated
I can never take a screenshot of it but I also have the AirPods connected notification bug on my 13 Pro Max (the one that would show in landscape even when holding it in portrait). Otherwise 16.4 and 16.4.1 have been bug-free for me so far. Around the same stability and is as bug-free as iOS 15
I watched and read every single iOS 16 review that I could and decided not to update from iOS 15.1.1. I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max which is still on iOS 15.1.1 and the only downside of it is no new emojis. I hope Apple fixes the problems so that me and others like me use the newest and best iOS updates.
Wait iOS doesn't force you to upgrade?

Thank you I knew I could find someone else who felt the same frustration and hopelessness about each and every passing iOS update like I have been.
This is why I’ve waited to upgrade my iPhone. My girlfriends iPhone 14 is so dang buggy. Her screen is just plain unresponsive like 5% of the time on her new iPhone 14. I feel like the bugs have been worse on newer devices. I have a few bugs here and there on my iPhone 11 but I appreciate you shedding light on this subject.
I've always wanted a bug collection, and my phone is the perfect curator! It's amazing how these bugs manage to find their way into every nook and cranny of my device.
I've been having many bugs with iOS 16's new lock screen. At the beginning of iOS 16's release, I would get a bug where the notifications wouldn't let me pull them up to see the rest of my notifications. That doesn't often happen anymore, but I get many UI glitches when playing music with album artwork. Overlapping notifications, distorted album artwork icons, and weird spacing. I believe that since the lock screen is so different and new that Apple will definitely fix this with iOS 17
I haven't seen a lot of these, but what I've noticed is (1) if you get into a bad coverage area, you have to reboot the phone to pickup phone & data service again if you get to a good coverage area and (2) Siri has somehow gotten even WORSE and even just activates for no reason. (3) Music is a mess. Asking siri to play a song just randomly hangs or plays something completely unrelated. This also happens on the music app on AppleTV...the other day it just started playing a few seconds and skipping to the next song...over & over & over.
yep, imessage is not working for me and facetime also, but at the same time, im not down to update it to ios17 since things will get worse, and battery will last less 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I would also like to see a more basic mode, for older people the new ways of doing things is too complicated
A basic mode really isn't needed, apple just needs to get their shit together again and start making software that is intuitive and easy to use.
All i'm going to say is i accidentally read ballistic...

@@TheEviltaco666 Seems like common courtesy and politeness went out of fashion for you, too.
@@TheEviltaco666Yeah well my Dad is getting up there in years and he just can’t learn anything new anymore. Guess who has to explain it to him several times a day. To make it even worse he also uses a PC which makes things more difficult in trying to integrate his information across platforms for me. I stopped using Windows over a decade ago so not that much is familiar anymore, and it’s an exercise in frustration. He could definitely use an interface that was more “Fisher Price” and TBH most of the features they have in the OS I don’t even use.
The first issue has happened to me at least once. My iphone 14PM also still gets hot sometimes with just watching UA-cam videos or streaming music since launch. I hope Apple keeps addressing these nasty bugs. I've never seen ios get this bad when it comes buggy ios releases.
It’s usually caused by picture in picture feature. The only way that working for me is to disable the PIP feature on youtube setting. MEH 🙁
one of the issues i've had is when none of the apps open up properly anymore. every single app would open up to a blank screen pretty much. safari would allow me to type stuff into the search bar but won't do anything else
This! Great vid. Same issues with 14 Pro/IOS 16 here too. The photo, weather widget, and the black screen must be much more common amongst users. Also, in the last couple weeks, noticed an iMessage sending lag issue. Ugh.
the only issue I ever had was the screen rotating and half of it missing, the other half covered by an invisible keyboard.
The other issue I had since I got my iPhone 2 years ago, is using spotlight for searching google, it opening the search I typed in, and then going back to whatever window was open before in safari (usually another search). Really annoying to lose everything you typed. Same on iPad.
As for it getting worse; I do notice apps being buggier lately, mostly Whatsapp has been interesting.
That said, and I'm probably going to get flak for this; I have a Mac Mini M1, Macbook Air M1, iMac 2017 21.5", iPad 2021, iphone 11 and an Apple watch SE. And as much as I like all of them, the one that is most replaceable, is the iPad. Other than the ecosystem, a good Android phone is as good as a good iPhone. Sure, if you compare a 250 dollar android phone to an 1100 dollar iPhone, absolutely, the iPhone will win. And sure, there's shitty expensive android phones (The pixel 6 was absolute horror for instance) but if you are sick of iPhone, I genuinely think it's the devices that is most similar to the competition.
I’ve definitely noticed the increase in bugs over the years. It’s an unfortunate situation brought in by becoming more and more and more complex. They really need to devote more resources to debugging. That said, it may not be all that much better with an Android either, as bugs are just a cat and mouse game.
That said some long-lasting bugs have seemed to be finally fixed, accidental or not. My main one was when I’d set to “play next” in music, occasionally it would decide to just ignore that request.
As somebody who uses Android, Android has bugs too and I've seen them. But þey've never been as weird or inconvient as the ones in þis video.
@@dsihacks my favorite one on Android when I did use it was when I’d move an app to the SD, it would work fine for a few weeks, then go corrupt or something. I’d have to delete and reinstall the app. Tried multiple SD cards as well. Oh and video calls overheating the phone. I know bugs exist on both sides.
@@computernerdinside installing apps on the SD card.... Forgot we used to do those...😅
But man, I think you haven't used good phones, and that too from Android 8 and up ( or use root to move apps to SD). They are not an issue anymore, you can't move apps to SD cards( even on Samsung's) and video calls don't heat up the device like in the past, even on low end phones.

Im so glad youre talking about these issues when hardly anyone else would. (This isnt a matter of iOS vs Android but there needs to be equal ground, bus are in all software bit speaking about iOS bugs have become a taboo topic. Thank you for your bravery)
I am currently running iOS 16.5 developer beta, and I haven't seen any of these bugs, I have had a few in the past but after updating everything went away. Maybe they're getting things under control.
Thank you Luke for bringing his up!! The screen going black issue is something I noticed since upgrading to iOS 16 on my 13 Pro Max. Now the weird phenomena gets triggered when I put my iPhone for charging overnight and when I wake up my phone is like not responding with black screen. That means it suppresses the alarm also. Which almost got me late for work once. Since then I always make sure to charge my iPhone before I go to sleep or if I have to charge overnight, then I keep a backup alarm on my note 20 or apple watch -_-..The only way I could get out of it is if I connect back to charger and attempt to hard reset at least 5-6 times, taking to apple store two times didn't help either as they just reset the software and gave it back saying its fine. Almost thought of selling off my 13 Pro Max and getting a 14 Pro Max, but then I came across a bunch of reddit threads that discussed the same issue on the 14 PM also. So, ditched that plan.
To fix, click volume up then volume down, then hold the side button until you see the logo. This will force reset the iPhone, quick and easy. Still a frustrating bug though.
@@prhawkeye Agreed.Well that is the only thing that worked for me. But the frustrating part is this works only when I plug my iPhone to a charger or PC after a few attempts. The iPhone unplugged doesn't seem to restart with this technique. Luckily I have not yet faced this when I'm outside like Luke.
As someone who was forced to update to iOS 16 due to his phone having a bootloop issue and have no way to go back down to iOS 15, this just makes it hurt more than it already did for me.
A few things I've noticed:
- Sometimes when you open the notifications on lockscreen, they will all be square shaped for a second or two before becoming bubble shaped again.
- When playing around with the rubber band animation that happens when you reach an end while scrolling on lockscreen, going all the way to the top, sliding down slightly and then slowly sliding back up... instead of just bouncing back, it instaltly just snaps back with no animation at all.
iOS 16 was so bad it made me go get a Samsung instead.
I’ve been using an iPhone 14 Pro since October. I also use AirPods Pro daily. I’m usually running the latest software within days of release.
I’ve never experienced ANY of these bugs. Seriously, none of them.
But if I had as many problems as Luke and others claim to have, and a reset from scratch (not a restore from backup) didn’t fix it, then I’d be getting the hardware checked out.
Same here… I’ve had zero problems on my 14 Pro Max. My buddy had a problem where his 14PM locked while validating an update and the screen wouldn’t accept input. His phone was just stuck with the ‘Validating Update’ screen for hours. He finally did a hard reset and it fixed it. Same thing happened to my wife on her 12PM a few days later. Outside of those examples, I’ve been pretty lucky, and I use my phone a lot during and outside of work.

The visual bugs is something that I have not had on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, but a few weeks ago my devices decided to forget all of my Wi-Fi passwords... so I had to reenter the same password on my iPhone, iPad and MacBook. I work with IT for a company in Sweden and some of the users have had similar issues with their iPhones as well.
The same happened to me with my 11 Pro. I somehow can't remember if it was after I installed the iOS update or not. Do you know that? Was that after iOS update or just suddenly out of nothing?
@@hanushasl It was suddenly, no update or anything at that time. It was really wierd.
@@XandeR136 Ok, thanks for clarification. I was also thinking it was rather not related, but wasn't sure.
it‘s very bad for me, i’ve been an iPhone user since Iphone 3gs, and I would say my experience for the last one or two years are very very very bad, i’m not kidding,3 days ago I I started to seriously thinking about buying myself a Samsung due to the unstable buggy experience in ios16, the FaceTime is pretty much unusable since the update, and I do a lot of FaceTime due to recently I moved overseas to work, and all those buggy things pretty much kills the experience I have for the past 10years, the only thing that stopped me from using the android is,I simply has too many data and files that works only with mac and iPhone, and this pissed me off even more, cuz I feel like I’m on a bus that I can’t get off.
For me sometimes any kind of video call glitches out so that the video disappears, but there’s still the green indicator which you usually tap to open the call menu, just that it does nothing and the only thing you can do is hang up the call by putting your phone into airplane mode
I've gone through every iteration of iOS since I bought my first iPhone, a 3GS. Honestly, I have NEVER had any problem with iOS. I've heard of plenty of people complaining about bugs over the years, but I have yet to experience any of them.
Same experience here
Please start using your phone to experience bugs!!
Good for you.
Just because you didn't have those issues, doesn't mean it magically doesn't happens to others, you're just having a fluke
I've went through this annoying system crash where it force restart my system several times, and even got the looping flash apple logo problem
I’ve also never had any of these issues
During an event last year, my iPhone 12 Pro Max completely locked up on iOS 15.4. It was so bad that I could not use my phone during the event to be in constant contact with my team. It was absolutely infuriating. Fortunately, my friend used a developer tool to reset and get it to work again.
Not just phones. We switched from Roku to the latest Apple TV, and while I never had to reset/restart the Roku... EVER, but about every week, I have to unplug/plug the power on the Apple TV to get an app to load. Failing to open an app, failing to load a video, videos not playing back properly, etc., all issues we NEVER had on the cheap Roku.
7:06 That one happens to me like every day! I call it the Dynamic Continent
Unbelievable! I never upgraded from my iPhone 13 Pro Max and had a good as usual experience with iOS 16. I wonder if the software for the iPhone 14 variant might be connected to the bugs.
I have a 13 and the weather app craps out routinely like you describe. It has locked the screen like you discussed here, but that's been rare. In general, I have noticed people with older iphones have far fewer problems. Something about the 14 seems way off in general. Does the camera still vibrate in that weird way?
So for all the people with the black screen bug it happened to me when i had a screen protector covering the entire screen along with the notch . It fixed itself when i got a another screen protector with a cutout for the notch
Got a lot of those in my iP 14 Pro. Also adding another one... When editing a contact, there are two options on the top of the screen (Cancel and Done). You make some changes, you F up something and rather than risking losing the contact, you want to cancel all these changes and start over but the Cancel button doesn't work. It just gives you another promt asking if you really want to cancel all the changes you've made but confirmation only takes you back to your already edited contact. I've got a screen recording of it as well. So the only way was to force close contacts app and start over. Also, not being able to pick up a FaceTime call isn't only for FaceTime. The same problem is with regular call as well. Than one more and that is wicked message that i have no notifications which goes all over the lockscreen.
Finally, someone is pointing this out!
7:02 This Airpods thing happens to me regularly, about 3 times a week AT LEAST!
This has happened before. I remember iOS 7 was very buggy and rough, same was also true of iOS 11 on iPhone X and iOS 13 at launch. I’ve had a few bugs, such as my camera just not even opening until I restart the whole phone and the app close glitch, but overall it’s been fine for everything else.
I also had some app freeze problem where I can’t tap inside the app but the home swipe just works well. So many bugs on my 12 pro max. Didn’t experienced the same problem on my 13 pro max though.
My iPhone 13 has been acting weird as well. I couldn’t play videos in my camera roll, I couldn’t open any group chat in messages, I couldn’t send photos or videos, nor could I delete photos or videos. And while watching this video, for some reason it asked me to sign into iCloud, when I didn’t have any other app opened in the background
That’s the reason I’m not updating now. I have an iPhone 14 pro (that obviously did come with iOS 16). But my iPad Pro M1 is still running iPadOS 15. It’s not the perfect iOS version, but it’s indeed way better than 16.4. The battery life is significantly worse on iOS 16, a 2018 iPad Pro that I have updated, dies way faster without using it, it’s just simply a shame now.
I haven’t had most of these bugs on my 13 Pro Max but definitely have seen them mostly on the 14 Pro/Max, I do think the rumors were true that the 14 Pro lineup was supposed to have the 3nm architecture but Apple changed it last second to the 4nm one and it’s still not optimized properly.
There’s this one FaceTime screen sharing bug when someone screenshares it mutes them and mutes the call for others. So weird, and it’s extremely common, happens every time
The list of bugs that I’ve been having often.
-Apple Music keeps switching to the next track forever
-AirPods disconnecting and reconnecting out of nowhere(this one happens all time everyday)
-Random noises on the AirPods
-Adjusting volume control does not affect the sound volume
-Music just suddenly plays at max volume out of nowhere
-Apple music refusing to play music for no reason, sometimes requiring to restart my iPhone, sometimes just restarting the app
-A whole bunch of bugs on the notifications. Examples include the one u saw on the video where a notification is somehow misplaced, pressing the notification collection doesn’t reveal them all, and a bunch of similar weird little bugs.
-UA-cam video screen rotating in the wrong direction, or just rotation for no reason
There are more but I cant remember them at the moment.
That first issue you showed was possibly to due to your screen protector if you have one. My girlfriend had the exact same issue on her iPhone 13 Pro. Hers was a privacy screen that you can’t see at an angle. I think it’s caused by scratches in the glass causing the proximity or ambient light sensor to glitch out, creating a loop type scenario where it recognises that you’ve raised the phone and are trying to interact with it, but the proximity sensor is giving it inaccurate data so the screen stays off, despite the phone actually being awake. As soon as she removed the screen protector it disappeared.
True. Which is the same reason of why I got rid of my mom's iPhone screen protector. And now it's all back to normal c:
Exactly
This has been happening to me over the past few months with the camera app opening with a black screen, keyboard not showing 😂 and the screen being landscape so I can only see the middle square of the UI with the top and bottom off the actual display.
The annoying part is volume control which doesn’t go in intervals but big jumps
Also the black screen thing is a regular thing
I’m thankful that my iPhone 12 Pro has been consistently solid, even under iOS 16.
But with major bugs on the rise like this, I hope Apple does a release akin to Snow Leopard or iOS 12; that focuses more on bug fixes and refinements over new features.
I experienced so many of these bugs myself, especially the phone call drop thing, and I honestly thought it's just my phone getting a little too old. And I mean I use an iPhone 12. Hopefully it does get better on ios17.
iOS 16 actually made me switch to Android. Shifted from an iPhone 12 to a Pixel 6. The shift was never a problem since I was never too deep into the ecosystem.
Same! iOS 16 shortened my battery life by 2 hours and introduced so many bugs it made my phone almost unusable. Switched to Pixel 7, not only is Android 13 so much more stable but there's so much freedom on this side!
I wonder if these issues are worse for the iPhone 14. On my 13 I haven’t had much besides the unresponsive screen when you try to wake it, and that only been like 2 or 3 times in the last couple months. Also I had the weather app break and show nothing a few days ago, but I assumed that was some server issue not iOS
My 13 Pro max was SOLID, I almost regretted getting the 14 Pro max as it was buggy in the first week! Been alright since then, but I have noticed bugs in the last few days
I saw the writing on the wall with this when the Apple Watch started to fall out of step with the phone. The user experience at one point was seamless. The watch felt like it was directly talking to the phone and features like music controls were quick and responsive and handoff worked perfectly for other apps. A while ago, when the LTE models launched really, the watch suddenly feels more like is interfacing with your iCloud account rather than directly with your phone. Music controls require flipping through menus to check if your using the watch or the phone library which is clunky and annoying and handoff is sporadic on good days. This has extended to things like AirPods too. This weird “floating on the cloud” bs is ruining User Experience. It’s making things slower for no benefit.
That bug you encountered was already an issue a few years ago on my iPhone X, went away for a while and is now back apparently lmao
When this lock up happens (I've only had it happen twice in since the iPhone 12) you really only have to force reset the phone. Click volume up, volume down then hold the side button until you see the logo. It is super quick. This is a frustrating bug though, but easy to counter with a couple of key clicks.
I’ve had it happen once, months ago on my 13 Pro and that’s what I did. Wish Luke would mention that instead of encouraging DFU mode reset. That’s not even necessary.
Solved - forced reboot - this on my 12 mini the same way. Occurred 3 times during the last about 6 months.
I’m thinking maybe his phone is defective because I have a 14PM and have gotten all the other bugs but it has never just locked up.
I don't remember having any issues like this on my Galaxy S22 Ultra. I have definitely noticed more bugs in iPad OS's UI than Samsung's One UI on both the phone and the tablet.
Samsung one UI is bad designed but works
@@MrsNumeratorka I have to agree 😂 with this statement.
However there aren't any dropped calls there.
One UI is 99% stable, with Samsung flow it can be truly said it's android ecosystem.
One UI bug that's been haunting my iPhone for years is when I turn off airplane mode but the airplane icon is still there instead of the carrier info. So the springboard displays airplane mode but the phone is actually connected to 4G
Now that we are talking about issues with the most recent IOS. Something that really grinds my gears! Is that in control center when I want to turn off wifi or bluetooth it now only temporarily disconnects them instead of shutting them off. So I have to go directly to the settings app to turn them off. The amount of times that I have had my phone randomly reconnect to the wifi or to a bluetooth speaker when I didn't want it to is severely aggravating. I wish they would just make it an option in settings where I could decide if the control center buttons do what they're supposed to do.
Disclaimer: at some point it got better. (the themes one at least)
I've been having LOTS of bugs in the books app. In iOS 15 it worked perfectly, then they went and changed the whole UI and now it's trash. Sometimes it forgets the color theme, using almost white text in white background. Other times does the opposite in dark mode. It's impossible now to zoom in an image (it goes max zoom when tapping an image and it can only be dragged with two fingers and it feels buggy). Because i use an iPhone 8, i can see the page have square borders and then snap to rounded corners when dragging it away (the one to close the book), maybe they forgot square screens exist?
(This one is macOS related) sometimes the book app is a white window, it cannot be interacted with and only fixes itself by restarting the mac, closing the app does nothing.
AND THE WORST OF ALL, they removed the 3d paper animation and now the page just glides to the sides, it looks generic and sad.
they just added the paper fold animation back in the beta 🎉🎉
Regarding the bug in the beginning:
This typically happens at random when connecting your AirPods to the device. The easiest fix (for me at least) is to put my AirPods back in their case, wait a second, then try again.
