Lighthouse - Maple Music Junket, Massey Hall, March 10, 1972 (One Fine Morning)

- A very rare video from Lighthouse's original era with the band performing One Fine Morning on March 10, 1972 during the Maple Music junket at Massey Hall in Toronto, prefaced by some remarks from the band's late co-founder Skip Prokop.
The Maple Music junket was a bold move by a few music industry mavericks. Music journalist Ritchie York and Arnold Gosewich (who was president of Capitol Records Canada) invited about 100 European record producers and reporters to Canada for an all-expenses-paid trip to experience the music scene in the great white north.
The Maple Music Junket would introduce international producers to an unforgettable lineup of Canadian talent, starting in Montreal and wrapping up in Toronto with back-to-back concerts at Massey Hall.
I have no idea how this amazing video came up on my scene but I am very grateful that this took me back to a concert that I was at. I grew up in a part of Toronto called South Etobicoke when Skip Prokop lived two blocks from where I did. I had just started high school when he and his first band The Paupers used to practice in the front room of his parent's house and they would let us listen and watch through the window from the porch. I always loved music and joined the school band playing drums. I had a single mom in a blue collar community and after Skip gave me me first pair of real drum sticks I used to practice in the basement hitting upside down buckets and boxes. This is actually a true story and I didn't miss many concerts by Lighthouse one of Canada's best ever rock band.
For as good as these guys were, playing Carnegie Hall and other top venues, being named Canada's #1 rock band, you could call them and they'd come play your Canadian high school. Outstanding!
Uh, The Guess Who were from Winnipeg....Canada's #1 rock band
Both Great Bands ! Thanks ! 🇺🇸 🎸 !!!
Saw both bands at McMaster university in early 70"s! Also saw Lighthouse at Summer Gardens in Port Dover! Great music from Canadian groups!
@@dougwilliams2480Rush and Triumph would beg to differ, albeit at different eras.
Bobby McBride had one of the most beautiful voices. So sad his early demise at 52 years of age. Skip's gone too. God bless them and the band for making so many people happy to enjoy their talents. Hall of fame Canadian band.
He sounds a lot like Chuck Negron.
@@randyjordan5521 ...and the lead singer from Blood, Sweat and Tears.
Their lead singer now Dan Clancy is also very talented
He sings like the vocalist from the group VEHICLE "THE SONG 😅😅
This song is so good, it brings tears to my eyes 💗
From an era where musicianship and jus plain talent was a requirement!
Leonid and friends brought me here. This is great. Thanks for posting this.
You can see that Leonid needed more tambourine.
@@chriscomfort1378 And better vocals.
@@chriscomfort1378all i saw was Ksenia
Tighter than the studio version. Smokin' piano solo :-)
Great to hear Bob McBride sing this live. Thanks for posting. My favourite song to sing at Karaoke!
Me too! I wish I could have seen the original lineup.
49 years later and still my favorite band.
Its called being loyal not only to yourself..good on ya..eh..🇨🇦
I just discovered Lighthouse thru a link to this video on Gab. I immediately went to Amazon Digital Music Store and bought the MP3. I'm gonna dig up more of their stuff!
me, over 50 years and still listen to especially Bob McBride's songs

Great Canadian Band? Great band, period!
One of the best horn sections ever. Great tune.
Got married in 72’. Still married, still love this song. A lot of groups have done this song - nobody has ever done it better.
There is a Russian group that just came out with a cover of this song and they do it justice. They have been covering Chicago, earth wind and fire and blood sweat and tears. They have toured the U.S.
Check them out here on YT.
Cheers
@@SDsailor7 "Leonid and Friends"
As Rob Hernandez mentions above, the band Leonid & Friends does a great cover of this - seeing them next Saturday in Myrtle Beach SC!
i loved this band that was a gift from canada to the world!
What a song!! It's amazing how the chords section (violin, cello) beautifully merged with the horns and with the rest of the instruments... The energy of Bobby McBride's voice and Skip Prokop's drums is astonishing! All of them virtuous musicians. Timeless piece!
💯💗👍
This song sounded a lot like Chicago.
@@randyjordan5521 I thought it sounded like blood sweat and tears. The voice is similar to Clayton Thomas
Agreed, so much like B.S.&T's..Fantastic!!!
Im a long time Lighthouse junkie, have loved them eince the beginning
Skip Prokop....Soooo Gooood!!!
Absolutely electric….awesome group; wonderful song. Didn’t need drugs to get high on this.
This was as good a front man for a rock band as ever was. I'm so glad there is this recorded audio/visual of him and the band playing this exhilarating song.
I love the energy level of the lead singer
That's the great Bob McBride. Bob was 51 when he died in 1998. Rest peacefully, Bob. 💟
RIP Skip my lovely friend... you made such a difference on this plane... xoxox
Nobody better vocalist than Bob McBride!!!
Jim Morrison and Burton Cummings for starters.
Love him!
@@morganclare4704 ha ha ha - good one !
I would agree. Others are good, but he was distinct.
Absolutely! I think I have to include the lead singer from Blood, Sweat and Tears?
I miss you Skip!! You grew my love of music ❤️
What a voice!
I’m proud to be a 66 year old Canadian! Rock on,
Absolutely one of the greatest bands of the 70s .... they are Iconic .......
one of the best songs ever, I was a sophomore in high school, remember it like yesterday, such sweet memories of the 70’s!!
Me too, sophomore. The song just rocks!
I use to Plug this one in the 8track when I got on the expressway leaving high school turn up it up and bang through the 4 speed gear box.. It was great!!
One of my all time fav songs. Leonid and friends sing it and it’s kick ass. Very close. Very.
One of the greatest pop songs ever!!!!
One of the most underrated bands of all time. I saw them open the show for Fleetwood Mac and the J. Geils Band at the Boston Music Hall in 1971 and in my opinion Lighthouse stole the show!🎤🎸👊💥🍻
I remember the first time that I heard "One Fine Morning", "Pretty Lady" and the entire "One Fine Morning" album. I was entirely impressed, already being a fan of jazz/rock by Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago, and Tower Of Power. Thanks!
Saw them with this lineup in Winnipeg my hometown in 73...i was playing in a band that myself Tim Hannon Laurie Woodcock and the late great Marvelous Merv Sutherland...and then we were 8. Kahn. This concert blew our minds...A Christmas present for 8 young hungry star struck kids. Thank-you to our singer and a really good man Greg Pilot

@@jimhutcheson6359 Hello fellow "Pegger, I was at the concert in 1973!!!, Take it slow, Take it easy"
Fantastic to have this available, wow, brought back a lot of memories, I was at that concert in T.O.'s Nathan Phillips square with friends. Always was a fan, seeing this now makes me realize how much I do like them.
Thanks for all you did for the music.... bro...we love you!!
I LOVE THESE GUYS and am SO GLAD to finally see this fabulous song being performed live!!
That was an excellent piece of footage. Reminds me of Chicago. Great horn section
Easily one of my all time favorite songs!
lighthouse the band live they were just amazing what a performance musicianship at such a high level one of my all time favorite bands thats the super 1970s
Theres something about listening to a Canadian band and feeling dead proud they belonged to us way before the world found them..eh..🇨🇦
Pauline I'm from the USA and I often think of all the giants of music, Comedians ,2nd city tv, entertainers of all sorts, from your Country ,wouldn't be enough room to start naming. I love this band yes you can be proud , Canada is Great
W@W!!!!! Stunning Energy High!!!! 💯🎶 🌄🌅All time Fave Song!! Thank You Much!😘💖😁
Love this ! Thanks for posting! 50 years ago my boyfriend played it for me. Wake up and love life
man, we need more Skip Prokops! So sad McBride and Prokop are both gone.....I remember watching this as a preteen......hooked me on rock and roll forever!
I wished they showed them singing Pretty Lady my favorite of there songs
Feeling honoured to have Skip in our home in the late 90's! ❤
Wow, great live version!
Great to see this video of Lighthouse at the peak of their powers. RIP, Bob McBride.
And sadly R I P Skip Prokop .
A HUGE loss when Bob went to be with The Lord!
Aw damn! And I just found out some pals and I are going to see them in August. That's why i came to this video. Now you guys tell me the 2 main guys are gone :(
@@djdissi THE main guy (Bob Mcbride) passed on in 1998 of a brain hemmorage (I know I didn't spell it right), NOT from drugs as sooo many ppl think, I am close friends with Bob's daughter so I know the truth,he was "clean", doing well and then poof!!! ...Skip died of heart problems in 2017....I don't bother with the "new" Lighthouse, they should change the name, lol, 🥲
Incredible! I knew Bob and his wife Janice. And Skip. All sadly no longer with us.
This quarantine gives me the best times to spend listening to my favorite bands, and Lighthouse can never be beat! Their music rocks me, getting some exercise even.....xoLoLa
Such an epic (and undeniably awesome) performance! Lighthouse is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most underrated--and underappreciated--bands of the seventies!
Saw them every time they played Lethbridge....loved them...the first Canadian super group. RIP Bob and Skip
Well, its about time!!.....Great post, Thanks!!
That was my first rock band concert back in high school days in Calgary,
with my first girlfriend. Ahhh.....the 70'
Toronto, Canada. Bob Mcbride, best Canadian vocalist!!
Agreed. I just sang this at Karaoke for the first time. I cannot sing this without hearing Bob McBride's amazing voice inside my head. I try to sing it in his style. One of the best Rock Singers I have ever heard!
what about Burton Cummings
Burton Cummings hands down
@@charlesnichols3838 no comparison to Bob, just my lowly opinion lol
@@charlesnichols3838 lol, what about him??
Paul Hoffert rocks. 🎹
Long story short- Skip first met Paul on an airplane. Paul is also a musician. Skip says he wants to put together a rock band, with horns, and strings. Certain people think Skip has lost his entire mind. Paul says if you end up doing it in Toronto, let me know. BAM! The rest is history.
Skip Prokop & Bob McBride lived in the same apartment building as my family in 1971. I heard plenty of rehearsals, acapellas etc. Good memories at 40 Stevenson Rd. Rexdale ON Canada! And yes they did play our high school North Albion Collegiate Institute (NACI)
I haven't heard this song since the 70s. It just popped into my head and I had to look it up on UA-cam. The next thing I know, I felt like I was 11 yrs old again. I like all music from the 50s til now, but the 60s and 70s had the best music.
Thanks for posting this rare clip of the original band. So glad I get to see one of my drum heroes, the late great, legendary Skip Prokop. I first discovered Skip, like so many other Americans, via the classic live album by Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper, at Fillmore West. Skip was a phenomenal drummer. Wished I could have met him. He was simply great. And an all-around versatile complete musician.
Pinky Dauvin was the original lead singer.
Really awesome! Thanks for posting!
Skip was right...30 min. Who ever recorded this must be kicking their selves now for not recording a whole concert of Canada's best!!
YES! how stupid was that huh? 30 mins, nutcases!!!😪
A very beautiful song the best!!!!!!!!!
One fine morning, girl, I’ll wake up Wipe
the sleep from my eyes
Go outside and feel the sunshine
Then I know I’ll realize
That as long as you love me, girl, we’ll fly
And on that mornin' when I wake up
I’ll see your face inside a cloud
See your smile inside a window
Hear your voice inside a crowd
Calling, «Come with me baby and we’ll fly»
Yeah, we’ll fly, yeah, we’ll fly
We’ll fly, yeah, we’ll fly
And on that mornin' when I wake up We’ll
go outside and live our dreams
I’ll buy you candies made of stardust
And little dolls dressed up in moonbeams
And everywhere we go we’ll laugh and sing
I’ll kiss you morning, noon and night
And all the universe will smile on us
'Cause they know that our love is finally right
Yeah, we’ll fly, yeah, we’ll fly
We’ll fly, yeah, we’ll fly
Yeah, we’ll fly to the east, we’ll fly to the west
There’ll be no place we can’t call our own
Yeah, we’ll fly to the north, we’ll fly to the south
Every planet will become our home
Yeah, we’ll fly, yeah, we’ll fly
Yeah, we’ll fly to the east, we’ll fly to the w
What a great live band! Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
LOVE this band...grew up with Lighthouse...
I also grew up with Lighthouse, went to their concerts every year until Bob McBride got ill, he did not die from drugs, I know his daughter so I know the truth, I wish ppl didn't jump to their own conclusions!!!😪
Love the Kustom Tuck and Roll speaker cabinets.
I have a Kustom 100 watt tube amp
Quite Amazing!! Timeless too!
That was GREAT!!!
It is great
Watching February 5th 2020..never ever tire of this amazing band with fantastic Bob McBride. I hope his kids are doing ok.❤️
I’m breathing still. Thank you so much for your kind words.
@@ElisaMcBride Hey hon, lol, fancy meeting you here, ttyl
Geez I miss the amazing voice Bob McBride had. Great time. Great band.
A HUGE LOSS! 😪😪😪💔💔💔💔
This was a big tune in Massachusetts, I haven't heard it for years.
The talent is off the charts!!!
The painting in the background at the beginning of the video was from Rod Sterling's Night Gallery
Well done lads!
Great tune...Passionate band. Wish the volume of this youtube track was louder though, as this song deserves full amplitude!
I love my earbuds!!🎶🎶🎶
It looks like the Massey Hall concert March 10, 1972 (the same tour at the Carnegie Hall concert). We had ground floor tickets and we were all up dancing and singing and jumping. It was the best show ever!!!
Thanks for giving us the date and venue!
Betty Booper I recall Lighthouse playing at our high school, Hill Park, in 69, which was also the school Skip Prokop had gone to. That driving rock with the horns, and Bob’s singing was incredible
I remember my cousins showing me Skip playing drums in his garage when he lived probably with his parents near Browns Line TO before they became famous. My dad took me early 70's UWO London..My first concert...
Great band! They play on in our memories!!
Makes me proud to be Canadian!!
Me too eh my follow Canadian👍🇨🇦👍🇨🇦
EH..me so too..they were ours before any one else grabbed on..🇨🇦
Canada is America's hat😊
Great Canadian Band
Great song please check out Lighthouse - One Fine Morning Album Review on my channel
Yeah and Klaatu were amazing too. Well actually most the good stuff was Canadian long before that but, Shisss, Don't tell ..
Ahhhh the old 8-track days!
I remember hearing this song in my sister's new 72 Super Beetle. I remember buying the 8-track at a Kmart and driving around with her listening to this song and others from that era. Today I'm driving around in my Beetle listening to this on satellite radio. So true that some things don't change very much
Love the horns..
love this song
Upon hearing this song, Peter Cetera told his Chicago bandmates, "We need to up our game." David Clayton Thomas of Blood, Sweat and Tears muttered, "we're screwed." The Ides of March called it quits.
Thanks for this amazing post!
That was Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is pure awesome! Toronto Rocks!
What I would give to see a full concert of theirs from this era. If only time travel were possible. Such an amazing underrated band. RIP Skip.
I saw Lighthouse at De La Salle High School in Toronto 1969,70?
They were just so good . I love listening to their sound all these years. So sad, such talent is taken by drugs:((
Bob McBride did not die from drugs!! I know his daughter so I know the truth, he had a massive brain hemorage (ughhh can never spell it right), he was "clean" and doing well and POOF!! ...we never know when our time is up, it's been 50 years since I was at their concerts here in Manitoba, and am still listening to especially Bob's beautiful voice/ songs
I saw them at their first gig @ the Rock Pile in Toronto also spoke with Prokop's Dad in the audience @ a Pauper's performance and Chad Allen & the Expressions aka the Guess Who also performed. Prokop's Dad indicated that Skip entered a drum competition (rudiments) in the U.S. which he won.
Well executed by the entire band.
Go Canadian musicians!
Great Great Band. And that Bob McBride, nobody better!
There is NOBODY that compares to Bob's wonderful voice!!
Paul Rudd on lead vocals! Just kidding, I love Lighthouse. Glad to see this clip uploaded.
One of the BEST songs I have ever heard. ITS SO Fn GOOD… Just sit back and really listen to them all jam, from keys, horns, tambourine, drums..ECT..ECT.. one big jam session. But it’s the only song that I found that sounds like this. Do they have any others songs like this, I love the horns.
Try this one ua-cam.com/video/VsbRKv4tT5o/v-deo.html And of course, Sunny Days (too bad there is no live version from the 70s to be found on YT). Can't go wrong with any of their songs.

@@cjpew YES! Love this video, thanks much for putting up the link!!
Yes...and don't forget to mention the strings. When Skip added strings and a horn section to a rock band, he put this band over the top. 💟
Still great. The energy, the musicianship together with skip’s vocals.I preferred Chicago as Lighthouse was sometimes a bit too sunny but I loved them
There was another video of them singing this. Bob had a shirt with a butterfly on it I wish it would become back!
I have the video, his daughter sent it to me, it's called TAKE IT SLOW, just google it
Bob Mcbride left the band and music biz abruptly and I think it was his wisdom and our loss.✌️🎸
Absolutely awsome....
Skip's absolutely right about Lighthouse getting the short end of the stick from the promoters. It would have been great to see Lighthouse perform 2-3 songs. A factor could be that rock music wasn't as widespread as it is today and someone didn't want to upset the older patrons of Massey Hall. Rest in peace, Bob and Skip. We miss you.
Rock music had long been a mainstay by this point. This was the 70s. Not the 50s. Rock had been widespread for years by then and brought in more revenue than any other genre
Lighthouse should have release a journey of the band and sòlo.works of each members original works.esch band member is multitalented instruments and vocal. Am a big fan of the band
Since 1973
I haven't heard this in years. Great tune. Always thought it was Chicago.
These guys are still kicking around. We saw them perform about in 2017 or 18. Still rocking it. Always great live performances but unfortunately no decent sound recording of "One Fine Morning"
Great upload, wish there was more. CBC must have some footage during this era of the band. They were huge and top of the game!!
Saw them in 74 and several times since.
Horns & Strings - great band.
