After watching a number of videos on medieval battlefield weapons (both European and Japanese) this video really nails home how valuable a reach advantage is. Here is a battlefield weapon vs a side arm and I keep thinking, I hope the swordsman has some really good armor.

The Men at 6:48 was NOT a Men at all. A Men isn't scored when jumping up into the air....

Maybe against naginata, leniency is given in tetms of the fumikomi for kendoka

@@tatumergo3931 If kendo moves towards modern Olympic fencing where touching scores you a point, it has completely lost it's meaning.
Yes when different weapons are involved it becomes a bit difficult to judge.

No, if Ki-Ken-Tai is established, it can be Ippon even without Fumikomi. I think you got it wrong about Kendo. Please understand that I wrote it with a translator.

I'm not talking about fumikomi. I'm talking about the body movement. His body went upwards, not forward. He literally jumped. A fumikomi isn't a jump. There was no Tai behind the cut. @@Vergil06

@@KoggelxanderNo, it's possible to jump men. There are scenes of receiving ippon in shiai in Japan and Korea.
