How to Get More Traffic & Followers (#1 Strategy for 2018)

  • What's working right now to get more traffic & followers to your website, blog, podcast or videos? It's this simple but powerful strategy I reveal in this video.
I've taught this traffic strategy to several of my students who are just starting to build their online platform, and many are using this strategy alone to grow their following and get more traffic.
Here is an outline of the foundation for this strategy:
    1. New People
    2. Unique
    3. Trust?
    4. Share
    = N.U.T.S.
To clarify something I mention in this video, what I share isn't the only strategy to generate traffic, obviously. I did say that this is "better" than utilizing your own audience for traffic and growth, and I would actually say that's not 100% true (yes, I'm correcting myself).
In many cases, utilizing your own audience, especially your SUPER FANS, can do wonders for growing your audience and authority. But, when you're just starting out and you don't have super fans or a large audience yet, this is a great method for building one, fast.
Let me know in the comment section below what you think of this strategy, and if you're gonna implement it, tell me that, too :)
    Good luck!

As someone who frequently gets requests like this, I personally ignore most of them when it feels like the person who's reaching out just wants to interview me in hopes that I'll promote their interview to my audience. In fact, some people (for whom I agreed to take time from my day to do an interview and create valuable content for their audience) get made at me if I don't share it, like the interview was a waste of their time! Remember, sometimes we get too many requests to feature everything to our audiences, especially when we have our own content we're promoting, so when you reach out, make sure it's extremely genuine (nothing that feels copy/paste), offer value of some kind to the admin, and it works best if the interviewee feels like you're more interested in a relationship than you are in content and free exposure. Think more about how you can give value than extract value. That pays off much better in the long-run. Create an amazing interview unlike any content that person has had or shared before and make them feel compelled to WANT to share it with their audience.

Video Creators definitely agree with you Tim! I hope everyone takes the serving approach to working with these forum owners. Most, I’ve found, however, are thrilled for the opportunity because they do not have a large following or brand like yourself. Always come from a place of serving first, and you will be rewarded!

That is the secret though, giving back, offering value added content to their group. I suppose if you're passionate about something enough to start a blog or podcast then you may have something to offer the group, but is a mention and promotion enough? I don't think so. So what is the currency of content?

Love this idea! I've been trying to comment within Reddit forums and IG posts, but didn't think to reach out to FB or LinkedIn group admins. I can definitely see this as an approach to not only grow awareness, but give me new content. Seems like the growth potential is larger with this approach. My niche is personal finance and ditch debt strategies for millennials. My purpose is to serve other 20-to-30 somethings on how to live a #debtfreelife #servefirst

Hey Pat, Watching your videos has changed my whole outlook on internet marketing and business. Honestly I felt like I needed to be salesman and pretend like I know it all and I'm the only authority of my niche which is aviation. I have slowly been converting my blogs/reviews to be more like me to create that honesty and trust. It's makes the "work" more enjoyable and has made it feel like more of a "service" then a sale. Thanks! #servefirst

Hey Pat - Love the shirt (and Convertkit). As a PuP student, I have used this method to increase my reach, my podcast downloads, and my e-mail subscribers. Each time I reach out to another Facebook group and spend some time contributing to the community, I find that once I share the link to my podcast the trend continues. The trick is to use the Jab Jab Jab Right Hook method of Gary V and once you build the trust - you will see that members will value your recommendation on your own product.
    Keep up the good work!

#servefirst - LOVE this idea!!! I've been using the FB search feature for a while, but never thought of narrowing it even farther for admin features!! So inspired!! Specifically, I serve creatives in their first few years of online business...looking to turn one off launches into recurring monthly revenue. (Memberships, subsctiptions, paid masterminds, etc.) .
I'll have to refine this tactic a LITTLE bit since "recurring revenue" doesn't have much a facebook group following. lol. I'll probably have to pinpoint membership site creators, paid newsletter creators, etc.
Thanks again Pat!!! I've loved hanging with you for the last three years!!

My niche is very clear but very small - I help people who've bought steam ovens become more confident steam oven cooks, by providing recipes, tips and guidance for how to use their appliances. There are so few resources/influential people in my niche but I can think of one other FB group owner who would get a lot of business exposure by sharing her wisdom with my audience (and my audience in turn would get some really great specialist advice). Thanks so much for always thinking about how to #servefirst, I appreciate it every time I watch or listen to you. Emily :)

She is highly qualified and experienced but lives in a very remote part of Australia, and wants to be able to serve a wider audience than she's currently able to. I was just speaking with her about trying to offer some kind of online services last week! I really think consulting and education in an online format is going to be the way of the future for specialist allied health professionals. Great suggestion, Pat. :) When used correctly (keeping in mind that you are to be providing THEM value) I think this could really help people branch out into areas they haven't yet been exposed to or had the opportunity to serve. I'm heavily involved in the homesteading niche #servefirst :) and I sometimes think we tend to hear about and focus on a few top homesteading groups. But with more people starting FB groups (due to changes FB is making) I think it's worth taking the time to see what's out there and reach out. First, love this unique strategy. Never thought of this and it seems like a great growth tactic if executed correctly. Second, this is the third video I've seen that talks about niches and use sewing as the example (maybe an underestimated niche) it's a bit funny.

Also, how do you think we can use these tricks to market our design/branding services?

Are we N.U.T.S. for not thinking of this already?! Thanks again Pat for your awesome strategies. We are hoping to #servefirst in groups where our freelancing/digital marketing course (niche) might be of use to people... and this is such a brilliant way of getting the word out there. You're the bees knees! Cheers - Nick and Maggie

Genius Pat (hi Pat, Jessica and team)! I’m interested to see if this happens for us and for people to reach out and try this myself as I get my podcast going. Giving value is so important, especially in larger groups where it's usually a lot of spam. My niche is Christian business owners and entrepreneurs. I #servefirst through the podcast and my own UA-cam channel.
