Loking good my friend, looking forward to the painting episode, I assume it will be grey/green scheme, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍
It would appear you are taming the beast, the work you have done is beautiful. When I say beast, I'm also referring to it's size, that is a large model and will take up quite a bit of shelf space. Then again, you are working on a 1/200th scale Bismarck... But anyhow, beautiful job, and eagerly awaiting the next episode.
Hi Steve Just now found your channel Your methodical and meticulous work ethic is truly an inspiration Thank you for sharing your journey and your extensive experience and knowledge
Steve I tried earlier to send you this URL but my comment was blocked for some reason. I suspect some rotten algorithm is at work, so I have inserted 4 capital Xs into the address, so just remove them. ( X youtuX.be/BKq5X1LdJ-ZUX?t=9) If you can tolerate the Home Services announcers accent, I believe these are the sounds of a Sabre.
When you cleaned the Mr. Surfacer with Tamiya lacquer thinner did you wipe it before or after it dried? Always learn some new detailing ideas from you. I really enjoy your build videos. Wish I could see a close up photo of what the lenses look like with a hole drilled in them and filled with silver. Great work!
Excellent as ever. I have an original copy of Pierre Cloisterman's The Big Show which I've read many times. Le Grand Charles might of been his favourite .....
Hi... One other thing keep a eye on the Trumpeter/master tools rivet maker.... Mine just broke... The plastic axle pin gets cut in half by the metal pounce wheel
@@TheModelShed I have been looking at the rosemary riviting tool but it is almost $100 nzd so have been looking on Ebay for others and I have found a couple of quite good looking ones
@@TheModelShed yes... Not recommended to build multiple special hobby kits in a row... Save it for next year put a post out before you build it and I will give you a heads up on the issue I found... Sort of puts me off getting the P39 TBH
I've the hitech V and II - (oh for a fury) too ... been waiting for someone who is more accomplished than me to carefully go through the build... SO - you're my hero!!.. I've added the II to next years build list..
Very nice work Steve. I am watching closely as i have the full Engine resin set, and the rest of the resin goodies. Hope to start mine later this fall.
Coming together nicely, to me it looks like some of the fight is going out of the kit. One thing I'd like to pass along that I got from one of my other subscriptions is when checking the evenness of the horizontal stabilizers is to place a small mirror on the work bench and look at the reflection to see if it's all even. Looking forward to the next installment for the Bismarck.
Great work indeed, congrats. A little detail concerning the paint scheme for the 994. It was actually the last Tempest V Pierre Clestermann flew in combat operations. He had the prop spinner painted red when promoted to 122 Fighter Wing Wing Commander (April 27th 1945) From a couple os photographs in his book "Le Grand Cirque" (The Big Show), taken at Kiel aerodrome at the end of the war (I can send them to you if you like, but they are available on Google) there are slight differences to the decalc sheet, like, for instance the large "Croix de Lorraine" on the radiator sides. Also near the cockpit windshield, left side of the fuselage the DFC/DSO triangular banner... but those are only minor details. The 32 kills and the name "Le Grand Charles" (in memory of the great WW I ace Charles Guynemer) on the starboard side of the fuselage. Sorry for the long message, thanks again and best regards.
Thank you. The only photograph I’ve seen of Clostermann’s Tempest with a cross of Lorraine on it is of NV724. It doesn’t have Le grand Charles on it either. I’d be interested to see the photos if you could send them to me. 👍
You may be right. I hadn't seen the JF-E photos you have in your link. The bottom ones are the same I have in his book Mine just have a better definition, although my copy of the Big Show is 50 years old. I was 17 and I bought it after I met Pierre Clostermann at a friend's home here in Portugal. He used to come here for Marlin and Sailfish fishing. I had the old 1/72 FROG Tempest model, an aircraft I've always loved. Anyway I took shots of my book's page, how can I send them to you? By the way thank you for your reply. Best regards@@TheModelShed
Nice work on the nav lights, Steve
Thank you they look better done this way imo

I think the reason I like special hobby is they do a load of the oddball kits and they are not shake and bake, great work here though
agreed - and it does us good to stretch our skills a bit from time to time
Good progress.
👍
Brilliant as ever!
Thanks David

Thanks Finlay I saw that but couldn’t get the sample off UA-cam. I’ll try again sometime
Missed the Liive due to a funeral 200 miles south. Hopefully plenty were there despite it being the ev of the US Labour Day Holiday weekend.
Sorry to hear that Mac . It was a bit slow last week maybe that had something to do with it 😬🤔
What solvent / brush cleaner do you use for Mr. Surfacer? 😳
I use gun wash Andrew it’s easily available
Steve, is the opening audio a true recording of a Sabre?
No I couldn’t find one Finlay. If anyone knows where I can get an MP4 I’ll change it 👍

After it had dried Rick - otherwise the thinners pulls wet surfacer out of the gaps

Very nicely done bro... I am 2/3rds of the way though the Special Hobby Whirlwind and finding the usual special hobby issues with fit and finish 😂...
Ive got one of those as well Nigel with some aftermarket as well. I need a break before tackling another SH kit

Good luck with it Gary. I decided not to go for the gun bays after I read of the fit issues on the wing. Hope it goes ok if you have them.
