Dragon Age: The Veilguard Criticism Is Making Fanboys Mad

- Fanboys are doing their best to create a narrative that suggests most people are loving Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the only people who hate it are “Culture Warrior Tourists” or “Not real fans as they only like Origins”, these tactics aren’t working.
Outside of a couple of echo chambers, the majority are seeming to find nothing but mediocrity in what they’ve seen of the Veilguard.
As a fan of RPGs, I don’t want to see ordinary work rewarded so unless BioWare actually show off better elements of the game that suggest it’s actually a banger, I’m totally supportive of people’s criticism.
I’d love to be in a world where a new Dragon Age was coming that I was actually excited for but for now, it’s low on my list of upcoming RPGs to look out for. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is looking like the one to look out for this year and there’s plenty of indie devs doing a much better job than BioWare.
Make a generic,mediocre,expensive game for 9-10 years, market it as a queer dating sim repeatedly, get shit on by the fans, get praise from shills and a very small minority drooling over 2-3 male characters, get your studio closed by EA for making negative money 🤣, cry and blame the fans that made BioWare successful when you didn't even know what a videogame was 🤷♂
It's the exact same setup as baldurs gate 3. Let's not be hypocrites just because the intro will show bioware and not Larian.
@@tamarak.8800 I disagree, BG3 is a fundamentaly much better game and non-generic than what DA4 has shown and I think BG3 is not a good sequel either and the romances are unorganic AF. There's also a difference in marketing, Larian (Sven) wasn't even sure about showing ''the bear scene'' and it was people who made the marketing for them and went ham. In this case BW are the ones trying to push hard on the sexuality topics. BG3 dev cycle wasn't 10 years either and Larian is independent unlike BW.

@@tamarak.8800 Yeah no. Like mentioned above Larian didn't work on BG3 for about a decade in development hell switching from life-service model to single-player game. Larian is also independent and doesn't answer to a publisher who wants to make as much money as possible. Probably had considerably smaller budget too. Nor was their main marketing tactic telling everyone how the game is gay and queer. Their priorities were in the right places: gameplay, story, level design, strategic combat and most importantly freedom of choice.
I don't know if Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be a good game. But I have three reasons to expect it to be bad or mediocre at best: 1. next to no one of the original talent responsible for the first Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect games and Dragon Age: Origins are working at today's BioWare. 2. their last two major releases, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem were big embarrassing flops. And 3. their transwoman game director, who has pronouns on his bio and describes himself as a "queerosexual gendermancer", is an activist saying how the game is "inherently queer" because THAT'S the most important thing to them. I have yet to see a good game come out with people like them in charge.
lmao history is repeating itself because this is almost exactly the same shit that happened with Dragon Age II back in 2011 (generic, mediocre, expensive, queer dating sim, got shit on by fans, got praised by shills, very small minority drooling over a few male characters). The difference was Bioware shit out that game in only 1.5 years, not 10 years lol

Bioware seems to forget that not being able to romance any/every companion first go hurts replayability. I can just load an old save, play the romance and still have pretty much the same experience. I have no problem with LGBTQ..... community but I do have a problem with it being shoved down my throat. It is actually a minority group and it's treated like everyone is a member.🤨🤨
Im a huge fan of the series... and all the criticism is legit... and deserved... Trying to pander to another audience and alienate the ones who always supported the game is a dumb thing to do. Ill argue older games were more diverse in the fact that you had characters ranging from very masculine to very feminine and everything in between. In this game, they want to be so inclusive that they made the characters as neutral as possible and they are bland, boring, and uninteresting. Pretty sure the game started out as a live service game. The gameplay looks super streamlined to cater to casual players and the graphical aesthetic, is made to appeal to a broader audience as a consequence. Characters are presented like heroes in Overwatch and the game is marketed like a Disney Pixar movie. This is how you destroy an IP. And they are so SMUG and proud of it all I'm not feeling sorry for them. I'm fine with what we got in the first 3 games. I'm happy to revisit them if I want a Dragon Age fix. If it has to end here I'm ok with it. The first 3 games were awesome. Bioware and EA have themselves to blame. Instead of hiring actual game designers and people who love the older games, they hire activists to push political agenda and social activism... fk these people.

Im actually suppriced the fan community isn't up in arms when they said in the QnA that the DA Keep save will not be imported to DA:TVG.
This is my world state with tons of decision-making across multiple games. This will now be reduced to a previously on Dragon age tarro card reading.

I say this because block, counter, and dodge were skills 😂 the back stab was a skill all these basic actions were activate skils/abilities

The director of the game is a transformer who says the game is inherently queer. The creative director said all the characters are pansexual. The characters look like they were taken from downtown Las Angeles, just how I like my fantasy. This DEI/Woke madness must stop. The people making this game are so out of touch. Vote with your wallets and avoid this crap so this insanity will stop!
The trouble is that once, they made handsome and beautiful characters, now they are so ugly and clumsy and personally when I'm playing a fantasy game I'd like to look on something good. Once, they had stories and great back stories for the companions. Once, they had good combat and fabulous settings. That is what this female expects of Bioware and am bitterly disappointed when they drop from that level - as in M.E. Andromeda.
Yet, Dragon Age (or Mass Effect for that matter) was never just straight, and it was aimed at females too. Zevran in Origins was androgynous and it didn't matter what you were, he would coax you into his tent. Origins Awakening brought in Anders, who was brought up imprisoned within the Circle, he was also bi. The love affairs in DA 2 were both straight and gay. Isabella hit on my fem Hawke constantly. In actual fact it remains my favourite game; the worst was their laziness in repeating the same dungeons. Corypheus was a far better foe in DA2 - and that was some fight at the end of Legacy.
And in Inquisition it was hard to actually romance anyone if you were straight, the whole game marred by repeatable fetch quests. I ignored them and enjoyed it all the more for doing so. Ha, I also played as Anders just to say up yours.
Bioware have always been non-conformist but didn't in the past push it in your face. I want to like this new game, because yes, I am a fan-girl (old lady), but so far, I'm just in pain.

Agreed all the way. And the fact that it was also about romances and not just...hooking up. It was about getting to know someone and committing to them. And there were consequences if you broke it off with one and pursued another. Or pursued another while still in a relationship. And all that emotional build up in Trespasser for something like Veilguard.....*Cassandra disgusted noise*.

I play DA for the story. Not for the combat or gameplay. That's something BG3 or Elden ring can't give. The continuation of the story from trespasser.
I see nothing in this game (besides personnel changes) that feels like it was 10 years of work. I don't trust these people with the lore and story - especially after hearing the trailer and "gameplay" videos. Looks like it might have been a decent game for a new IP. Dragon Age deserved much, much better than anything we have seen. To market it, they should be wowing us and showing something great. Where was that? In this economy I don't have the money for this mess.

Diversity in fantasy races themselves without an explanation is the death of a fantasy world.
What do i mean by that? Played all the DA games and i never not even once i saw a DEI elf and it made total sense because elves are not a whole nation, they live for centuries in small secluded ghettos. Even if they exist, which they don't, they would have been assimilated a long time ago. Imagine going in a village that is very closed with a small population and in it you see ocassionally black and asian people claiming that they lived here for centuries. Yeah, sorry i don't buy that.

People seem to forget that Neverwinter Nights 2 was also released around the time of DAO and was a much more faithful successor to the BG/Infinity Engine games in that regard. Origins was amazing, but it was Bioware wanting to work on their own IP and that they wouldn't have to license out 'DnD' settings from WoTC from then on. That was the whole reason DAO came to be. That's when Obsidian took up the mantle of making Crpgs that were mostly set in DnD worlds and that were for the most part better than Bioware's attempts as it was painfully obvious where BW was headed when they made MASS Effect and Dragon Age 2 and QUICKLY pivoted to making Console Style games. Honestly Baldur's Gate 2 is still the best game Bioware ever made. Period.

I played splinter cell chaos theory for the first time this year and OMG is that game immaculate, I don't know where ubisoft went wrong but I'm pretty sure a majority of their latest titles couldn't compete with how incredible chaos theory is. I just wanted to share that for anyone who's contemplating if they should buy the latest ubisoft title, try chaos theory first if you haven't, I promise you its way ahead of it's time and won't disappoint.
When Bioware puts out a statement saying "All the characters are Pansexual" Then that tells me exactly where their priorities were and I'm immediately out. Plus it doesn't look like a "Dark Fantasy". Lords of the Fallen is a dark fantasy and looks the part.

I've noticed there's no good looking female companions for hetero male gamers to want to have their protagonist date. No doubt that was done on purpose on the developer's part.
I can care if the characters are woke or not. The trailer and gameplay didnt hook me like the first time i saw inquisition. The Fortnite-like graphics makes it look like it was meant to be a hero shooter/looter with micro transactions.
What pisses me off is that people who have no idea about video games and Dragon Age in particular, are making videos creating hate from (at this moment) pure speculation on random channels like this one... When the game comes out and there's everything bad what you "supposedly" say it will have (because you know what will be in the game of course) then we will talk about it, but this hate that you are currently generating does not make any kind of sense and seeing so many people with their heads shaved copy pasting tha same shit makes me quite sad... "Woke" was the furthest thing from my mind when I had my first grievances with the game. It was 100% graphical style, gameplay, and tone. They opened that can of worms and now the more we look into the egregious turnover rate at Bioware since development started the more we understand there actually might be merit to criticizing the woke culture behind Veilguard and Bioware

Well said dude. Not enough people are saying what it is ''Dumbing the game down''. This happend with Dragon age 2 and 3 also. It feels dumb meaning: it does not really matter a lot HOW you play and attack enemies. If you just press all the buttons in kinda the same order and use the best weapons, you kill everyone easily.
In dragon age origins you had to really think about what you where doing. But thats not what people want? How is that not what people want if Baldurs gate 3 excists and sold extremely well? How is difficulty something that does not sell if something like Elden Ring excists (the OTHER goty! ) en sold millions. There are more then enough mature gamers who want to buy your brain you have to use your brain for but the dumber something is the better it sells. Thats why you see so many mobile games that make me braindead from just watching there commercials.

Personally as a person who played all the Dragon Age games I refuse to have an opinion until I play the game it's like insulting something until we get our hands on it that's the worst opinion and that is how Games die that are good that happened to my favorite games like prototype and that killed me because there was a chance we can have a prototype three in the until that was ruined and the company had to shut down because the backlash and the lack of money
The gameplay video was a lot better than the announcement trailer. But that's not really saying very much to be honest, because the trailer was so intensely abhorrently bad for what I expect from a dragon age game.
I love the dragon age world. I played all the games. There are problems with all of them that could be done better. Which is why I wish for collection. When it comes to the new one, there are things I felt that I didn't like and that I wanted but they dropped the ball on it. For example, I've been wanting pets for the longest. You know I'm a boy warhead hound. Maybe you tame one of those giant caves spiders to air p3ts And then we get something cool and powerful, like our own Drake. Or griffin, and they gave us a griffin.. I wanted to see some new classes and races. And new type of magic And I don't think that they should have gave you 3 characters. I think it should have been 4. And the role character should have been split ton archer and assassin.. I love how varic looks However, this is a game is supposed to be dark. Ness and stuff like that, but I thought there was way too many colors over low over the place. I don't mind the weapons and armors. And stuff being all colorful, but if you're in a place where the end of the world and it's dark and stuff all over the time, it's a little bit weird.. I'm just gonna save this right now. I'm a little disappointed but I cannot say. I hate or like it up to the full. Demo comes out and replay it

I am so glad and happy we got 3 Mass Effect games+Legendary edition even with all the mistakes and flaws they are still great,but it make me so sad we never get/getting that with Dragon age.
I am so glad they changed the name because for the longest time I was on the fence about The Dreadwolf cause Solas needs asskicking but now that they are no longer the focus I can safely say I will not be picking up the Z tier zoomer rot game.

I think EA was forcing Bioware to dumb it down. They wanted Fortnite numbers and crowd. And yeah they aren't consistent with this title. I love Origins -but I do like ARPGs if it's done skillfully like No rest for the Wicked.
At the end of the day, it's a game. You can only focus on one game for so long.

The gameplay didn't look horrendous, there is still a possibility that it's a decent game. Unlikely, but possible.

Don't care and I used too be a "fanboy" for Bioware! They were on my "I trust this company, I will pre-order from them!" list! A list that has shrunk quite considerably the last 10 years! It used to contain Bioware, Westwood, CD-Project RED, Obsidian and Larian Studios and only Larian Studios (Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 and Baldur's Gate 3!) is still on this list! I actually like the more action oriented combat but then again, im a big fan of the Mana series especially Trials of Mana which was everything I wanted from an action RPG system. Thats probably why I am a bit more forgiving of DA2 .
If they gave me an action combat system with a story and world feel similar to DA1 then I would play that game in a heartbeat.

It’s beyond the same sex relationships. The game was already diverse and inclusive, throwing the whole kitchen sink into a game, tv spinoff, and market saturation makes it seem disingenuous. I hear more excuses about catering to a wider audience in entertainment but it’s the fans that do the leg work for keeping the franchises going. Loving the game on its own terms is better for developers because it helps them refine their craft. Blaming it on fans cripples growth and promotes stagnation in the industry.

Looking at a lot of these comments on your video is precisely why you need to, as someone with a platform, be mindful of what you say (even when your points are valid). Unless, of course, you agree with comments such as "dragon age is a straight male's dark fantasy story". That person left out the word "White", but that's because they knew it would be taken too far for others to agree.

It seems that these Origin Elitist hate the LGBT community despite the fact the BioWare is a gaming company from Canada, a country that legalized gay marriage in 2005. Hell, Leliana and Zevran were gay options in Origins and I don’t see that as problem. Same goes for the gay romance option in both Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition. How is Veilguard having gay romance options is such a huge problem to them?

As for the "Woke Criticism", here is a little fact. There are black people, gay people, dwarf people (OK, this one is a bit off, but just a little bit) in Inquisition. So, that game has always been "WOKE"., why stress this topic in the sequel?

We have plenty of evidence to support that this game is not as good as previous games from the same developer.
UA-camrs will make, well youtube videos, with their views for their audience, if you don't like, thumbs down on the video, comment bad video and click away, Im sure that are dozens of you, judging by how the Ratio from the trailer has been.
Truth is, hardly anyone talking about it is an actual gamer, and your comment is a prime example for "positive toxicity" where you only look at the good-sides, even though there arent many.
1 - Graphics are okay, 2017, late PS4 era.
2 - Combat is shallow, AI is basic, not much in terms of boss mechanics, not even a freaking boss kill execution cutscene, does it need? no, would be cool? yes, its a boss...
3 - Gameplay trailer doesn't look like a AAA Trailer, to me the editing is quick and dirty, no narration, didn't show us character creation, fade to black with white text, only showed us the beginning of the game, nothing like "end game or mid game" sections to compare, didn't show us talents or skill trees or professions, or gear... Why? would it spoil the game? or maybe this trailer was something they had to come-up on the last minute because of the backlash the character reveal trailer had?
4 - Facial animations are okay-ish, but nothing that will win awards.
5 - Lip-sinc is a bit off in some scenes.
6 - Sound profile was not well balanced between fights and narrative sections, had this problem with Inquisition as well.
7 - Neve character pointed at the direction of where Solas is, none of the other characters looked at where she`s pointing.
8 - Varus "tried" to talk with Solas, and our character had 2 options that lead to the same outcome, therefore story-wise we probably have no impact, will be that illusion of multiple doors that access the same room.
Is there improvements if I`m being so negative? Yes:
1 - Light and shadows are way better.
2 - Camera cuts during scenes are much improved.
3 - Character movements is fluid, not perfect, but better than it ever was.
4 - Hand animations and Combat animations also much better than previous games.
5 - Hair looks better and beards looks better.
6 - The environment is really well built, at least the first section, but Bioware always delivers on environment, this is a W regardless.
Its all about balance.
Maybe because bioware and EA have developed a reputation. Shall in mention ME: Andromeda, how about Anthem? Tell me, what happened to anthem? Or how about the Madden series that is laughably bad year after year
I`ve been wining arguments by simply saying:
1 - Trailer is supposed to be the "best" part of the game, if the trailer is not impressive, it`s all downhill from there.
2 - Gameplay is stiff, uninspiring and really shallow, you telling me that my character has 3 skills? and all companions has 3 skills each so 12 skills in total? DA:O had that in a single character, the gameplay is hack`n`slash, the boss battle shown was bad with not mechanics, this shows the game has little dept to it, sure we might be wrong but how often games shows us a bad trailer and the real game was good?
If it has ears like a rabbit, eats carrots like a rabbit, fur like a rabbit, and smells like a rabbit, well, I think it just might be a rabbit...
3 - If it would be "better" later on, why they show us the beginning of the game where in fact, is the worst slow part?
4 - We live in a era of post BG3, no RPG will get even close to that game in terms of writing and immersion for the next 5-10 years, but 3 skill limit, bosses that do not telegraph their movement, regular AI that "waits their turn to attack", means with didn't evolve, we actually took a few steps back from previous games, this is sad.
Also my own opinion here:
No narration on the trailer, my suspicion is that they made that gameplay at the last minute or at least not the one they intended to show as the "main trailer" because they saw the backlash and immediately scrambled something else to be shown, you can see the editing on the gameplay trailers is "quick and dirty", fade to black with white texts, the "Main" character shown had a simple text introduction, no dept to it like "oh let's show you the character creator" and so on...
On top of all that, the Lead Designer whatever Gendermancer BS, removed all of that from his social media, I wonder why, maybe executives told him that if the game flops he will "invited to leave", so he`s now trying to remove all the LGBT+ that they embedded on the game, or at least not as blatant in order to avoid people "voting with their wallet" and not buying the game day 1.
I`ve said it on another video, it doesn't matter you sexual orientation, your preferences, if you have a D* or not, when you are working for a company to build a product and generate money, your "message" is not a priority, do your job and stfu, I can`t believe that the gaming industry, especially AAA, can spend half a billion USD in a videogame project, and still let these clowns run the show, it is kinda obvious that it doesn`t work and that people don`t care about being lectured, they are looking for "FUN", they want to have a good time, and with your product instead of being fun, being a platform to deliver a "message", us the normal consumers will strafe away from it, or we buy when its 10 bucks a year later.
Ref 2: you can only bring 2 companions with you, so it's 9 abilities total which you can only switch in hub. And no blood magic, because story reasons.

PC gamer played their demo and said the dialogue was bad. So the most important part of ANY Bioware game which is characters and roleplaying, fantasy and replayability is bad which for me is the real deal breaker.
Why is it that all woke movies/TV/games all have the same terrible dialogue and characters? Is it just because of an ideological echo chamber and not valuing merit/input from conservative/moderate voices? If the dialogue is bad, even those bootlickers who now defend the game will have tough time finishing it, hard pass from me.

whats worse is that, this is literally Mass effect dressed as Dragon age. Mission based quest meaning very very linear gameplay, little to no exploration, 3 skills which is very restricting and limiting, hack and slash focused game that will get boring easy, Tactics is you going into pause mode or ability wheel to trigger combos with other party members. Shame, such a let down.
I'm also a biG fan of DA, and we also have the right to dislike and point out why we don't like what the current DA game is. Even though the game has changed from 1 to 3, it still felt like DA mainly due to the full party control and more tactical game play, like postioning your tank in front, casters or range dps in the back and rogues attacking from the back for extra damage. I think it's because we have been silent and not voicing our opinion is why the game is what it is..well partially, because the devs probably had a set game desgin in mind and no matter what the fans say the game would still be what it is..

I'm a super fan of Dragon Age. I played BG1 and BG2 and both Icewind dale games as well as every Dragon Age game that has come out! I still think we should wait and see how good or bad the game is before we all get angry.

I'm willing to suspend judgment until it comes out. You can never really tell how good or bad their games are going to be from trailers. What I do like is that it is not open world. That is a return to form for what it's worth.
I am with you on the need for this to be more than just moderately successful. They can't afford another failure and, sadly, I'm prepared for their departure. They suffer too much from the problems that plague developers now - people want to take ten years and 100s of millions of dollars to make something that is just adequate (or worse).
It's cruel to say but perhaps this culling of developers will someday result in general improvement in the quality of video games released as AAA. When I think of where they're coming from with BG, KOTOR and DAO, it saddens me but nothing good lasts forever.

When can we have a game that isn't tainted by modern day wokeness? Tired of seeing games influenced the modern day design, just give us the designs created or inspired by the lore of the game. I question if these companies want money or are just pushing the government mainstream narrative.

Companies now understand that Woke=less money and money is a priority, so they are having market analysts evaluate games before release to ensure the company is not being irresponsible with their investors money.
EA making lootboxes is part of them trying to get as much money as possible from each game, which is an investor's rule when you run a publicly traded company, when they add Wokeness, this contradicts that rule (because is proven that it doesn't sell as much as non-woke products). The "wider audience" appeal will happen because of that rule, but if that doesn`t work (meaning you don't generate the profit you need to generate), that means the company will get scrapped in order to recover investment costs, because of that rule... you get the meaning, this is all corporations.
I've said for years that DA4 would have to compete against better franchises, and that it would struggle to do so. As for story, it's obvious they dropped the ball. They fast-forwarded to the confrontation with Solas, and excluded the previous protagonist from that process. It also prevents the new protagonist from having any choice in how Solas is confronted. It's BioWare just telling the bad story they want to.
That's one way to look at the Bear thing. However, just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. Why would anyone in their right mind "want" to have sex with a Bear? Whether, it's fake or not? That's a weird way to put it. Plus, it is just catering to the Rainbow Brigade without being as Blatant about it. No one in their right mind wants to go around Banging a Bear. And, no one is going to convince me otherwise.

Im just gonna say it: the game looks like its gonna have problems but we arent competing with BG3, we're competing with Inquisition, which is a super low hurdle to clear in my opinion. As an Origins fan, ive accepted that my favorite dragon age will never get a direct sequel, but bioware can still write some decent characters. If the gameplay is decent, most fans of the series ( including myself) are likely to grumble about how its not origins 2 and then play the game for the story.
It will be ten times more cringe than DAI and way less technically interesting imho , I've already seen a expert say the combat looks non tactical

But from my perspective as a DA fan it literally is competing against Inquisition and BG3. I would sooner start a new playthrough with those games than spend new release money on a weak action game. But what is even worse for Bioware is that Veilguard is competing with real action juggernauts like Elden Ring and Dragon Dogma. Action players have many more alternatives than RPG players. This game is going to get crushed in that market.
@@thirdculture9268 I'ma just say it like this: I still finished watching every episode of game of thrones and I can confirm that it was weak as hell. I intend to do the same for dragon age. If this is truly the end, I want to be there to see how it all crumbles to pieces. I have no idea if they've got anything good on their hands, but whether they do or don't, I want to see how it shakes out.
The initial reveal was trash, however, I'm cautiously optimistic, graphics why is the game looks very good and I do think it looks like a lot of fun, yes it has straid away from the blueprints of the original mechanics but it is something different

As someone who gives games, most games a chance before deciding it's shxt... as someone who has played past DA games... but im not a dihard fan...
