Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh Testing on Wet at Imola!

- After all, it wasn't so sci-fi to hope to capture the Cadillac V-Series.R in the calm of a test day here in Italy. A couple of days ago Cadillac Racing was at Imola Circuit to test their LMDh car ahead of the 2024 season, during which the Italian track will host a round of the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship). And they opted to showcase the car in all its glory, in an exposed gloss carbon fiber finish.
I was at the second day, out of two, of testing. This video is all about the afternoon when a couple of rain showers wet the track allowing the team to test the V-Series.R in those conditions. Full dry footage coming soon!
The Cadillac has been developed under the "Le Mans Daytona h" (LMDh) regulations which allows it to be fielded alongside Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) entries in the Hypercar class of the FIA WEC or in the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Compared to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) rule set, in which there's much more freedom in designing the car, LMDh teams are forced to rely on one of the 4 chassis manufacturers chosen by ACO and IMSA (Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic and Oreca) in order to have a base from which to build their own vehicle. Cadillac continued their partnership with Dallara, taking most of the experience from their previous DPi-V.R into the new project.
The V-Series.R is powered by a Cadillac LMC55R 5.5-litre DOHC V8 linked to a 7-speed sequential gearbox and to the mandatory 50kW hybrid system.

Those rolling startups never get old
There's something elegant and badass about using the front electric axle to bump start the V8. Starter motor? Nah.
When I was at Le Mans, this was second only to the NASCAR G56 for the most raucous engine sound. Comfortably the loudest Hypercar. Praise be to Cadillac/GM for bringing some good ol' American thunder to the WEC after the Corvette went flat-plane and lost its voice.
Of course it is unrealistic for a street car, but every time I see air jacks I think about how convenient it would make brake jobs, oil changes, wheel bearings, etc.
Its not unrealistic, its just expensive

I’m not getting under a car with air jacks for an oil change. Unless it had some type of mechanical safety lock
@@MattLitkeRacing me neither lol trust me. They do make "jack stand" sleeves that fit around the airjacks to provide a solid mechanical brace between chassis and the pavement, but regular jack stands in the usual spots would work too I'm sure. I just really like the idea of getting all four corners off the ground in about 2 seconds by plugging in an air line instead of dragging the floor jack all over the place and going through that whole song and dance. Especially with a lowered car, it's a pain.

Yeah, all the turbo V6's are making it a bit monotonous. I'm glad that this car exists.
@@alain46 At least with GTP in IMSA we've only got one V6 car, the Acura, and that thing sounds like an Indycar that's been fed nothing but ground beef and protein shakes, especially off throttle with antilag kicking in.
Hi Bozzy. First off, let me applaud you on another gem of a video. You always manage to make filming through all those layers of fencing and trees look so easy and all while tracking the racecars like a Boss.👏👏👏 The overspray and rooster tails make for great cinema as well. Love this beast of a Caddy, especially decked out in a suit of carbon. My goodness, that V8 sounds so tough and glorious at the same time and the shifts sound almost violent. Damn! Hello Mick! I couldn't have hoped for anything better, to be honest. The LMH/LMDh car I wanted to record the most this year on a private test day, without any racing livery and with a light touch of rain to see how aero flows work. I still have to get used to the idea of hearing a NASCAR-sounding machine approaching and then seeing an exotic prototype appear 😁 But I'm more than happy with this! Finally something in the series that doesn't sound like ass. Anyone have details on the motor?
It's the same 5.5L they have been running since 2018 and previously in the Corvette.
5.5L corvette motor but with a traditional cross plane crankshaft.
They all sound good in person, tbf. Camera mics don't do the sound justice.
@@JHamilton791 It's not. The DPi had a pushrod engine built by ECR with the block vaguely related to production. This is a from-scratch-for-racing DOHC engine built by GM Powertrain.

I hope Cadillac racing has a great 2024 season in WEC and IMSA also fingers crossed F1 stops being snobs and lets Andretti Cadillac onto the grid for 2025.
Best sounding car in WEC currently after the naturally aspirated Aston Martins were replaced. But next year we might see Mercedes GT3!
The Mustang GT3's are going to sound amazing as well.

@@J.g00022 they hyped the shit out of the new sound engine... Sounds like the old engine sounds with a bit more dynamic range added to the frequency clip points and that's it. Like someone said: "hey people headphones wont crackle and pop anymore with frequencies below shouting in a tin can so you can turn that up 5%... we don't want it to sound too good"
@@J.g00022 I say wait until the full game comes out but I made a suggestion on the Forza Forums to update the Cadillac V Series R sound just in case
It will run the V8 flat plane crank engine in 2024...I cannot tell if this is it.

I don't see any changes to the aero.
There are no changes, it's simply testing for next season.
Besides, since Monza will not be available for the WEC next season, might as well be prudent to practice at Imola.
Unlike LMH, LMDh rules are very tight when it comes to aero. Porsche is too updating the 963 and the updates be centered on driveability and reliability.

What do you mean, it's currently racing in the wec and imsa this year, this is just a test for next year since wec will be going to imala next year. It finished 3rd at lemans this year behind the winning Ferrari and second place Toyota. It also won Sebring this year.
