These are all beautiful! I make them too and I like to paint the back with a white pearl paint that allows the natural markings to still show but with a beautiful pearlescent sheen.
i love the shabby rose and like how you cutaway the butterfly. I prefer a dark gold- not the shiny 24k gold- but nice gold leaf edging by Ceramcoat, which i use in my pieces. I have done the underside of oyster shells- as highlighted with gold- to keep it natural and give some luster- with these shells, use the bronze to complement the natural shell color- don't do a full painting. Shells look beautiful with highlights.
I was thinking that only oyster shells would be suitable, but seeing your scallop shells, you have freed my mind. LOL I have bunches and bunches of cockle shells, so I will use some of them for this project. Btw, the blue floral is my favorite. I have seen the backs of shells completely painted in the edge color, but I prefer them left naturally. Thank you!
Love they way these turned out! Especially like the blue and pink flower dishes. I personally like the entire shell painted in the patina gold!! Thanks for the tutorial!
I thought to leave it natural but the more you assed the better the liquid patena looked. So my question is this, if you're going accidentally get any water drops inside should you paint the inside of the shell with a sealer. I could see this water problem in my bathroom. i know I am looking at something from three years ago. just asking in case you see my question.
Saran Wrap is excellent to smooth out wrinkles when you decoupage. There are lots of different ways to use it, but when I’m doing shells, like oyster shells, I put the saran wrap on my finger and I put the decoupage glue on top of the napkin and I use my finger like a brush smoothing out everything and getting in all the nooks and crannies and it works wonderful.

My fave is the blue floral. I’d not thought of putting a patina on the back … or any other color than a white pearl or natural … I’ll have to try it
Flower is my favorite

Thanks for a great video! Do you apply sealer to the gold paint?
no need it has a sealer in it!
Can I make this only with mod podge?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤ BEAUTIFUL ❤️
thanks so much! ❤️
Do the wrinkles you can see in them dissapear?
I love the blue one! Is there a special.place you buy your napkins?
I get mine from Tuesday Morning. Any places that sell decorative napkins. Sometimes dollar stores have a few.
Leave it natural! TFS If you don't mind my asking, can you decoupage with wall paper?
you could but its usually thick so it would not work on the shells
All three
On my second sea shell decoupage….I get lots of wrinkles. What am I doing wrong?
Saran Wrap is excellent to smooth out wrinkles when you decoupage. There are lots of different ways to use it, but when I’m doing shells, like oyster shells, I put the saran wrap on my finger and I put the decoupage glue on top of the napkin and I use my finger like a brush smoothing out everything and getting in all the nooks and crannies and it works wonderful.
I love the blue flower one.
I tried to click the supply list link and it doesn't work.
glad you like it!
My shell collage looks dry. Can I add clear wax to seal and give it a sheen?
sure but it will take 30days to cure
Do these products work on other mediums as well? Like wood, metal, plastic, canvas, etc?
yes they do!
U said u were using clay based paint, is that similar to chalk paint? Bc that's what I already have
yes it is :)
I couldn't find if you said these are water proof or not. If not then is that why you should mod podge them? Dan food be put in them?
Beautiful love what you did with it
