    33. You don't kill people or cause thousands of dollars in damages on a bike.

    Bike commuting gives me the freedom to go anywhere at anytime with no care for the traffic, schedule, or anything else! I can go places at rush hour and it's more fun to go around and see the other bicycles with me blazing past the traffic jams. Too many bikes on the road? NO SUCH THING. Not to mention that every time I ride my bike I'm saving some serious $$$ and getting free exercise.

    1. Bike commuting is not only good for the enviroment, but also to cut down on traffic jams. TJ is costing the economy bilions of dollars each year, due to lost working hours and goods not getting on time on their destination. I hate getting stuck in a traffic jam. With cycling it may get busy on the cycle path, but never a traffic jam.
    2. In the Netherlands you can bike to a train station, take a train to your destination city/ town, rent a Public Transport bike for 4 dollars to get to your destination. Regular commuters have in their job city an old bike at the station, to take them to and from work. I spray painted an old bike for a friend in zebra colors, so he could find his bike in the sea of bikes of the parking garage.
    3. Also in my country, every artirial road has separated bike paths, next to it. So that is safety. That is why the Dutch do not wear helmets. Cycling is sooo safe, that the change of getting hit by a car is ultra low.
    4. Most cycle routes are away for busy motor traffic. In the countryside on less used roads or sole bike paths. In the cities through residential streets, which have a speed limit of 19 mph (30 kmh, we use the metric system). So bikes and cars can safely interact. So safe, that children can ride their bike on the street.
    5. I use cycling not just for commuting, but also for shopping. Doing groceries and buying other stuff. So, I use my car only for trips outside of my city, on average once a week.

    Nice video. As a car owner, I don’t agree that commuting on a bike is cheaper :) Assuming that I wouldnt give up the car completely, commuting on a bike is more expensive than it first seems.
    Besides the cost of the bike, I also have to take into account the cost of extra clothing, backpacks, helmet, etc. Assuming my daily saving are basically the cost of petrol, it would take me almost 2 years of regular commuting to pay off the initial expenses.
    Don’t get me wrong, bike is much cheaper than the car, but for a car owner the pay-off time is actually longer than one would assume.

    • @miguelabreu2975
      @miguelabreu2975 Рік тому +3

      You got to buy really expensive stuff for it to be paid off only after 2 years... I bought a second had working pretty slick, a helmet, and locker for under 150€. Sure I could get fancier stuff. But that's extra. You dont need fancy clothing or fancy backpacks to start. and evne those can be found rather cheap.

    • @uralmutlu4320
      @uralmutlu4320 Рік тому

      Let me explain my logic. I drive 15km everyday and on average I consume a litre of diesel. So my daily cost is around 1.5€, which would be the saving if I rode to work. My current bike that I use for weekend rides is nothing special and it still costs 300€. On top of that, apart from shorts, tshirts and casual trainers i do not have any appropriate clothing that would keep me warm and safe enough. I bet a rain jacket, weather proof shoes (decent shoes are not cheap), backpack, and a proper lock would cost another 300€. So the pay-off time in my case is 400 days. For me that's at least 2 years of commuting on bike. (I dont go to the office every day).
      I know it would save me money in the long run and the cost of maintenance would be much lower. But still, for someone starting from scratch it does require a bit of spending. If I decided to get rid off the car, then it would be a completely different calculation.
      I do ride regularly in the summers, its just that I havent managed to make that switch to the commute.

    • @funkslave9425
      @funkslave9425 5 місяців тому +1

      For people who don’t own cars it’s far cheaper to bike than use public transport. In my city it’s a dollar to work and a dollar back. Sometimes I’m too tired or late to walk to the bus stop and end up paying another buck for a quick lift into town. At the very least that’s 2 bucks per day, and 3 on occasion. That all adds up very quickly when you’re on the move 6 days a week. My bike is cheap and far from high end but it works and it’s been a blessing. Well worth the $200 bucks I paid for it. I have to deal with hills and sweat but you find ways to work around it. I don’t miss walking to the bus stop and walking home from the stop after hours in ridiculous over crowded environments.
