There is a line Mark on the pump which should aligne with an upper surface on the block. If you turn it clockwise, to the engine, you are advancing it.
I thought these old diesels pushing oil through the intercooler etc was just because the crank vents onto the turbo directly and some of that gets pushed back into the engine for emissions purposes, and a catch can prevents this...
Nice truck. I’ll give u a few points. 1. The injection pump u have on there does not have a boost compensator for boost pressure. Should have a dome like cap on the top like ur 4BT/6BT engines. So u are not getting extra fuel delivery when u are in boost. There should be a vacuum pipe hooked up to your manifold that goes to the pump. That’s where Ute diaphragm in the correct pump compensates for boost. 2. When u rotate ur pump u are advancing and retarding the injection timing, not increasing or decreasing fuel pressure. Hope this helps and gives u something to go by and correct ur truck and get more out of it.
How did you do the mechanical injection pump swap was it pretty straightforward. Also what did you do with the intake valve after you took off the cable, does it stay open?
Great video! I have a 1KZ, and I’m having the exact same problem right now. I have intermittent puffs of white smoke, particularly at a steady higher rev, like around 2000 RPMs. When it puffs, the engine will shake slightly like it’s missing. I’ve tried everything, so I’m hoping clocking the injection pump like you said will work. Which direction did you clock it? Towards the engine, or away? Thanks again for your help! This issue has been driving me nuts.
Time for new injectors. Injectors control the timing by popping open at a certain pressure when get old or plugged they do not release fuel at the proper pressure. Advancing the timing may clear up the missing at idle but you could be advancing the timing too far while running above idle. Advancing the timing squirts the fuel in sooner & it could be firing before the piston is on the down stroke. Which can damage connecting rod bearings. Get a good set of injectors & that will most likely fix your issue.
@@Squatch_830 wow ... i bet you feel a big relief... i finnaly found the problem, someone altered the return valve and pump couldn't build pressure...now timing in on the factory mark and it drives amazing as never experienced before
Good looking pickup, looks alot like mine here in Oregon. Kinda curious what website you are able to order parts from? Been hesitant on ordering over seas
Careful setting your pump timing too far advanced. You could could possible prematurely wear the connecting rod bearings. Will run & sound nice but could be too far ahead & hammering the bearings. Best to confirm with specs when setting the timing, just to be sure or to at least have a good idea where it was set from factory.

I am going trough the same hell with an oem pump ,endlessly played with the pump advance , still misses and no power
@MBD-x1s yes I unfortunately sold my project couldn't see dumping anymore money into it...

Awesome vid. Can we get more?
I know I have been putting it off far to long.
