from Gerry- I'm so glad you gave me a way to use the hackle waste! Fiber is too expensive to discard any of it. Blessings

This makes me want a carder really much, but my husband would kill me if I clutter our appartment any more than I already have x) Love seeing you card the fiber

I have a very fiber friendly husband! First, I took over a bedroom and made it my fiber workspace. Then I spilled out of that into the basement. Then I spilled out of that into the family room. I’m not sure where I’m going to spill into next! My daughter is graduating from college this spring, and I am eyeing up her closet!! 😉

I just got a brand new Fancy Kitty drum carder and I am so stoked to play with it! I appreciate your inspiration even if my hubby doesn’t, lol

I’m jealous of how much fiber you can feed onto your carder. Bought my Louet carder 40 yrs ago. It’s still like new and I can fit at least 4oz on the drum but I really have to thin out the bits I feed onto it. It’s slow going. The amount you add would choke mine. 😅

That was the most I ever put on my DC. Usually it likes it best around 3 oz!😂

This came out beautifully! I'm curious why you sometimes feed the fiber on with the licker in vs when you add it directly to the drum? I'd also love to see some videos on how you spin up a roving vs a batt. I'm also wondering how you make the decision to create a batt versus dizing off? Does it just depend on the final yarn you're going for?

I do have a video up showing different ways to spin batts. Look in my playlist, all my videos are organized by category. It’s under spinning - it’s called “How To Spin A Batt 3 Ways”.
I paint things onto the carder that might get stuck on my liquor in. I just do whatever I feel like doing, unless I have a specific final yarn idea in mind. I like dizzing from my DC into roving, because it’s less cumbersome to spin. I am spinning the Tulip Art Batt now, and will have that video up in 1-2weeks.
I am not sure if you mean combed top when you say roving. Roving implies a woolen prep fiber(aka carded) and top is a worsted prep fiber that you comb( hackle, wool combs). Top is how most commercial spinning fibers are prepped. They look like a tube, and have pin tracks from the mill. I have spinning videos up on that too! Hope that helps! 😀

Where did you get that Cormo/cotton roving? I think you said in the video but I didn't quite catch it.

At Maryland Alpaca Festival. Tamarack Farms. I put their info in My Haul From Maryland Alpaca Festival 2022 video. They are a small PA farm, and don’t have a store. They must have a mini mill because all of their fiber was worsted prep pencil roving, and I loved it! I bought a ton of stuff from them last year and this year at Maryland Sheep and Wool too.

@@micahmilne it is, I have the same problem with West Coast stuff, like Paradise Fibers. It takes a thousand years and $$shipping. Our mail service is poor, and fiber of the month has been “lost” for over 3 weeks after delivery more than once! I had to give it up.
