- Hi, you guys, welcome! I'm Carrie Penny, the Happy Crafty Homemaker. If you've combed through the interwebs looking for a channel that celebrates knitting, crochet, card making, and general craftiness, you have found your home.
I'll be sharing in-depth reviews of yarn boxes, knitting, and crochet patterns, as well as sharing my current WIPs and FOs. No matter your budget or skill level, there's valuable information here for you.
My cats Curzon, and Pippin also make an appearance now and then. Curzon, yep, I'm a Trekker.
In my family, homekeeping is an art. So sprinkled in among the yarn love and crafting fun, you may hear a homekeeping tip or two.
Anyhoo. Merino, Alpaca, Angora…oh, my! Let the "yarn squishing" begin!

Love the shorter drop. Want to try the even rounder tip too. Thanks for this..
From here you can alter so many parts of this!
Mandala yarn is wonderful and it I’d warm and soft! FYI washes up great
It does!
Thank you Carrie. I love your channel and when you do a tutorial it’s a total gift to us. Thank you and happy Holidays to you. 🙂
I hope you enjoy it!! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you ❤️
I am so glad you like it!!!
Thank you so much for this, Carrie!! Like you, I have too many mandalas that I could never use. Last night I put two cakes with my favorite colors together, mandala liger and cupcake in balloons color. It's so much more prettier than I had anticipated!! I surely need to keep doubling them up like this. It makes a nicer fabric, it goes very quickly and I'm using up my stash. Thank you so much for this inspiration. ❤🎉
I am so glad that you are enjoying it!!! I love marled look projects and these cakes really make it so much fun!!!
That was helpful!
I am so glad that you liked it!!! That really does mean a lot!!!
Can't wait to see how the colors play out. stay safe and huge hugs my dear friend. x💋💋💜💜🐶
Thank you!
Just found you as I searched for shorter drop patterns. So happy I don't need to figure this out on my own, Thank you!!
I am so glad you found it!!! Welcome aboard!!!
Thank you. I really appreciate your simple and clear advice
You are so welcome! I am glad that you like it!!!
I had been looking for a formula (not a pattern) for a shallow crocheted shawl. I decided to do some trials and I came up with the same numbers for increases myself! My placement is a bit different (the edge increases are moved one stitch in and worked into a ch 2 space like the tip), but otherwise I feel like we arrived at the same place on different paths! I love it when that happens.
Again, these really are about showing how to make the basic shape. Understanding the basics of why and where give you the chance to make it your own. I know it has always helped me to understand shapes. There are so many ways to get there though!!!
Thank you so much for this. I have been looking for instructions on how to actually make a shawl not just counts and stuff like that but how to make the shape in be able to put my own designs in it this is just so fantastic!
I hope you like it!!!
Thanks for the tutorial 😀, gave very easy instructions, will be on my 2023 list, which is getting bigger, lol have a great week
I hope you enjoy it!!
Hi Carrie. Love the simple pattern for doing a shawl. Then you can add a collar, a ripple on the bottom etc. Thank you. P.S. could you please use a plain yarn for demos? It’s a bit hard to see the stitches.
Normally I would, but this was requested as the project I had made.
Looking forward to trying this in the new yea! Thanks for the tutorial! Great clear demonstration & explanation 😍💜🤗
I hope you enjoy it!!!
Thank you! Great tutorial!

Awesome job. Looks warm and squishy, I'll be giving it a try as soon as finish up my christmas projects.

Thank you!
Thank you Carrie for a great video! I love the shorter drop!!
Glad you liked it!! I love this shape so much!!!
So many shawls look nice but not very warm and I assume being in a wheelchair myself that the back length of them is inconvenient. I like your rounded Shawl the best because I don't have to worry about it getting stuck under my butt. I know that sounds funny but when you're in a wheelchair the last thing you need is something that's going to get stuck under your butt or bunch up on your back you just need something that's warm over your shoulders and that you can either pin or I like to make shawls with sleeves cuz I really get cold.
The shallow V is great for wheel chairs!!! A lot of the warmth has more to do with the kinds of yarn you use vs the patterns themselves.
I think it would be easier to see the stitches if a solid color had been used. This is confusing with all the variegation.
Thank you for stopping by.
I have a shape in mind that I have yet to create successfully. I would have benefited from seeing the completed work in its entirety. Thanks!🧶
I am really trying to show the shape; as with many of my tutorials. It isn't really about making a finished shawl, but understanding the increasing pattern so you can make your own things from the shape.
