- Hi, you guys, welcome! I'm Carrie Penny, the Happy Crafty Homemaker. If you've combed through the interwebs looking for a channel that celebrates knitting, crochet, card making, and general craftiness, you have found your home.
I'll be sharing in-depth reviews of yarn boxes, knitting, and crochet patterns, as well as sharing my current WIPs and FOs. No matter your budget or skill level, there's valuable information here for you.
My cats Curzon, and Pippin also make an appearance now and then. Curzon, yep, I'm a Trekker.
In my family, homekeeping is an art. So sprinkled in among the yarn love and crafting fun, you may hear a homekeeping tip or two.
Anyhoo. Merino, Alpaca, Angora…oh, my! Let the "yarn squishing" begin!

Very good job explaining what you were doing, thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you; I hope it was helpful.
Thank you for the tutorial.
You are welcome! I hope it was helpful!!!
Thank you great tutorial
You are welcome!
Great video thank you 😊
Thank you!!!
I’m a new subbie I’ve liked saved and shared your shawl tutorials and now this one too!🎉 I’m so excited to do these , thankyou so much. I’ll look forward to future easy peasey tutorials 😃 Lisa 🇬🇧 uk
Welcome aboard my crazy train!!!!
Great tutorial, it was watching you doing the squares that made me motivated to check out Teri, as a lefty it was cunfusing, watching her made it make sense, now I watched yours and went ok, I get it, I like the chain 2 idea, have a great week
She does an amazing job with the left handed tutorials!!!
Great job with this tutorial. I make my squares the same way with a chain two. I like them tight without holes. 😊
I do too!!!
Very good tutorial, I still can’t master the C2C but your tutorial is very clear…❤️🌻
Take your time with it and watch more videos. Really, because it is all basic stitches, we tend to stumble on the directional work.
Thank you Penny!! I'm so excited that you did this tutorial!! I've been wanting to make a C2C blanket since you've been showing your blocks, & I wanted them to come out with less openings like yours! Thanks for the tutorial! 🧶😊
Thank you! I hope you find it useful. If not, do check the channels in the description box. Both use a slightly different way to explain it than I do!
It does you and your channel are one of my top favorites to watch
Carrie, I love your tutorial. I have not liked doing the slip sts when squaring off. I've been doing a ch 3, which matches the ch 3 starting the next block. Your skipping the first dc and doing only 2 slip sts is genius! I tried it, so smooth and nice. Will be doing that from now on. I will also do only ch 2 rather ch 3 when starting that next block. I'm ok with ch 3 turning ch's elsewhere as I like somewhat airy blankets.
I like things that look neat and I play it by ear until I see what works for me.
I just started c2c. Mine is definitely not as tight as yours. So, when I finish my dishcloth that I am making, I’m going to try your way. Thank you Carrie.
It really makes a big difference to me. I didn't think it was so obvious to other people...
Thanks Carrie! Next time I'm gong to use your chain 2 trick!! I like the tighter look. I also skip that slip stitch in the first double crochet. I think it looks better too.
I am so glad you like it!!!
I like the fact that you create from patterns what you like. thank you for sharing. I like your use of 2 chains instead of 3. (I never liked the look of slip stitching in the first but never said anything because I thought I was doing it wrong) 😂
If you are consistent, you aren't doing it wrong. It is a design.
Hey Carrie! Looking for a tutorial on how you join your squares! Thank you!
That is already up. It went up in November 2022. It should be in my tutorial section.
I think the most "difficult" part of mastering the C2C is figuring out how to turn your work at the beginning and end of each row. Once you get it, you got it!
I like the 5ch/2ch instead of 6 and 3. I don't like the big gaps.
I think the once you get it; you got it with C2C is very universal.
That’s the way I do mine too. ☺️👍👍 was never a fan of the holes left by the chain 3.
Same here! I normally do a chain 2 because I have a slightly looser gauge with chains I think.
I'd love to know how you join yarns when making scrap C2C, or any scrap squares.
I just start crocheting with the new yarn. I don't do anything special with that.
Thank you so much Carrie! I have watched so many tutorials and yours finally clicked! I do have a question I’ve heard many ppl say it takes more yarn on the decreasing half of a c2c square. If I have limited amount of yarn and want o use it all how do I figure up when to start decreasing? Example I have two cloud cakes and want to make the biggest c2c I can with it.
I am so glad it clicked for you!!! I haven't noticed that but I haven't really looked for it either.
I do love a good C2C but mine tend to tilt a bit. Rectangles turn into parallelograms.
They always tilt. When you put a boarder on them; all of a sudden they true up.
Are there written directions?
Not from me, but they are out there.
I do exactly what u do BUT instead of slip stitch chain 2 in your chain 2... I sc ch 1 so it looks like it is all dcs instead od looking like it is a slip stitch.
I love how we all do the same things slightly differently!!! I use a lot of semi extended "chains" in my work.
