Yah the series is much better in terms of characterization because everyone has different personalities but none of them are cocky. They are proud but never cocky. Here it seems like they are just cocky and want to beat their opponents. While in the series they just wanted to win. It was not about being the best, it was only about winning and being the better man that night. There is a big difference. I like the series a lot and while these “legends” ovas have better animation, they are not as mature as the characters in the series.

A genius like Ryosuke should've known what was going to happen as soon as Takumi went outside. He didn't, but Takumi predicted what would happen with 100% accuracy... The difference is Ryosuke thinks with his brain. Takumi thinks with his gut.
His front tires were worn and that caused his car to slide giving Takumi room to take the inside. He couldn't do anything. If he took away the outside then Takumi would have taken the inside. Takumi used the gutters which preserved his tires so Ryosuke was really screwed when Takumi screwed up earlier in the race and recovered giving him time to catch up and pass Ryosuke. Ryosuke is no doubt the better driver here though.
Anime Master if you watched the anime you’d know that’s the explanation they give and you’d also know in later battle takumi blows his suspension using the gutter too much
was the corner is like a L-ish shape corner? if so Ryosuke would still slide out still if he used the inside corner but theres a gutter but as we know gutter can only partially damage ur car in the anime so if Ryosuke used the inside corner and gutter if his tire wasnt worn out he'd be able to win im probably wrong but yea

Takumi saw the optimal racing line for that curve. It’s hard to approach a curve from the inside at a high speed and expect to exit without understeer. Unless of course, you’re Takumi and use the gutter technique
