When I played in my older brother in AdnD 2e, he had me and his friends go through a dungeon (I was a wizard, his friends were a cleric and a fighters). We ran into an illusion that made us draw from the deck. The fighter drew the key, which gave him a powerful magic sword, I drew the Donjon (which sent me to another part of the dungeon in a room with a succubi) and our cleric drew the void (which was represented as her soul was pulled out, but the body still functioned like a mindless robots that mindlessly followed orders till we got her soul back, which was elsewhere in the dungeon being held by a pit fiend).
Big bummer about the delay, but honestly happy WotC is fixing it instead of just saying oopsie daisy ja. I still can't wait for it. I'd think about buying the digital version, but I never use D&DB and I want to support my LGS.
I'm pretty excited to see that the Deck of Many Things is being added on. It's a fun item in D&D, despite how it can 180 your campaign. If the DM handles it well (although it can require a lot of improvising), it can make for a very enjoyable experience and story. I think that the Deck of Many Things has a lot of potential. To handle the Void Card, I homebrewed it because sitting out on a campaign is not fun at all. Their soul would be pulled from their body and enter an item currently in their possession, usually an accessory, weapon, or item of significance to them. This item is called their "soul item". As long as they are in possession of their "soul item" (this includes having it in their bag or sheathing it), they will still be alive and active. If they lose contact with this item, they'll fall into a comatose until they have contact with their item again.
That's a really cool way to handle it if you don't want to add an emergency quest to recover the soul! Also knowing this, you might enjoy one of the options included in Void. :)
The discussion about the void card, one thing that I did is deciding to let them continue to use the character so I played it out that their soul went to one of the nine realms of hell , and I allowed the player to basically still use their stat block for their character and they portrayed them as a spirit so there might have been some difficulty with carrying certain weapons or interacting with things but they can still cast spells and therefore could still participate in the session
I have 5 cards from the deck. I've been playing for about 8 weeks. I have no idea what I'm doing and I LOVE this and this community! I'm chewing through the Player's Handbook now. This is AWESOME!
This has actually just given me an idea for an Artificier character who is learning about magic item creation for the express purpose of learning how to destroy the deck of many things.
Proposed Background: Deck of Many Things Creation You came into existence as a result of the Deck of Many Things, and now you need to figure out your place in the world.
Yeah this is where I headed. You are the 4th level knight created when an adventurer drew your card. You were their servant for a time but they no longer require your services. What do you do now?
This looks fun to play with, but I also am someone who prefers pre-written adventures. I wonder if any of the future official adventures or campaigns will include the Deck of Many Things, or if this will strictly be for homebrewers. Could see an argument for either
Deep dive? Like when Bank of American informed Hasbro they were overmonetizing WotC and losing customer good will? Or more like the 'Nightmare conditions' at factories making Hasbro's product?
I am quite shocked that in this day and age they were unable to produce a price-worthy deck of cards. There are SO MANY quality manufacturers of cards that do great work. WotC completely went the cheap route here despite attaching a high price tag for customer. I guess year is over soon and someone needed to show better yearly profit margins.
These are tarot cards, not plain old stock standard playing cards. If these were playing cards, they'd probably just go with the factory that makes their MtG stock. My assumption here is, they tried to source a tarot card manufacturer and got burnt, unfortunately
@@obsidiansiriusblackheart They are no different from MTG cards, that also include large sizes (larger than tarot) as well as special coatings. They've done it forever.

Ah yes, the Madoka Magica approach.

That's a cool approach. I like the use of cards not negating a player's participation while setting up future complications/adventures.
Comments and help for DMs is awesome. There's been so little DM tips and tools in recent books so this is great.

And I'll play a bard gambler trying to luck his way into another draw. This is a way cooler product than I anticipated it being
I am going to get this from r my DM as soon as I can!

Love it! That could be a really cool riff on the Rewarded or Rewarded.
Boring

How do you get a deck if you ordered the digital version?
When will you fix genie warlock in D&D Beyond?
What is the problem with it?
@@bjam89
It shows spells from each genie type not just the chosen one and you can't pick wish as your 9th level Mystic Arcana
Who knows something about localization of this product?

Oh look a new product that nobody wanted, meanwhile I still can’t make a homebrew weapon roll extra damage dice… so disconnected from the player base
