I've actually seen this style played before! It seems to be an adaptation to early zerg aggression, or hydra contains specifically 3base hydra contain which is typically very constrained on drones. The protoss will use corsairs to stop early muta aggression, while going 3 stargate scout + scout speed upgrade. Building up to enough scouts that they can harass zerg drones and demolish overlords. Scouts don't get brutalized *that* badly by hydras, and when they have +2 they can actually support zealot or canon vs hydra engagements fairly well. Any surviving corsairs are used to defend against scourge. Scouts can also serve as an answer to lurkers, and with their ability to quickly destroy overlords can also prevent zerg controlling observers too much.
Last has done it before apparently, and the build seems to have been around for ~4 years. Not sure if it's coming into its own a bit more now.

Scouts are beefy but the economics don't work for mass scouts. If players would just use disruption web, corsairs are better than scouts in nearly every way (except against battlecruisers). But players rarely build the fleet beacon to research dweb.
@@tylerwinkle323 Scouts have 50 more health and 20 more shields than corsairs, which makes a pretty big impact on their survival. They also aren't as harmed by armor on flying units as corsairs. Cloning disruption webs properly is also quite hard.
Mass scout due to being so mineral heavy also tends to leave you with a lot of gas (you can see an example in this game where the protoss has like 600 minerals but ~1500+ gas) which is great for leveraging a transition into stuff like high templar or dark archons. Units you're likely to want when responding to a contain anyways.
Mass scouts are large units, while Corsairs are medium units. Both have the same shield.
Health scouts take 100% dmg while corsairs 75% dmg from hydra attacks so EHP is similar.
Upgraded scouts move at the same speed as Corsairs and Mutalisk. It costs 200,200 to upgrade and takes a while too. During that time mutas can damage the economy.
Unupgraded scouts are way too slow to catch fleeing mutalisk and harder to kill mass muta and scourge than mass corsairs aoe.
IMO scout should have received cheaper and faster research movement speed and more sight upgrades that would have made them more attractive and used.

Protoss player lost not really because of ecomy, rather because he stoped mining and lost his drone stupidely throwing them at lurkers without cleaning the place.

Also, if you do go mass scouts, you should build couple of shield batteries top recharge them. They are used to tank hits and shield batteries keep them alive longer.
When I go heavy into Carriers or Archons, I like to slap down a few shield batteries. May not be the most efficient thing to do, but giving them essentially a second life for less than their base cost seems worth it.
@@TheLeadElite it's worth it, both early game and late game. Mid game shield batteries are less useful because you want to push. It's one of those buildings that doesnt get enough use because it doesn't autocast like it does in sc2.

this game was lost by protoss because 2 lurkers killed like 40 probes lol
this is what happens when you focus too much on micro
if he kept just 1 obs and 1 dt at his third, would have been an easy protoss win

Snow screwed it badly at 20:00, he should have evac the probes, clearly giving the zerg the advantage. The scouts would be pretty useful units with less price (225/75 instead of 275/125), and a 10/12 vision instead of 8/10. 12 vision would mean the best vision of all units in the game.
Either that, or their speed upgrade should be available on the cyber core, and 200/200 for it is plain stupid.

Snow had it, he just needed a bit more patience to take care of the remaining overloards before sending in the Dark templars. Obviously he didn't have the information we had about the supply block and almost non-existing minerals of his opponent though.
I mean his "scouting" should be perfect in this game!
4:14 look at the right cannon and where it is shooting. Is this a common bug?
I thought so too, but if you look at the minimap, you can see a couple of Zerglings (presumably, given the speed that the red dots move) darting in and backing away as the cannon fires its off-screen shot.

Hey FP! Sometime ago you were talking about music for your casts. I was thinking, why don't you put together a playlist of SC1 tracks from the two races present in the game? Like this game would have both the Protoss and Zerg tracks present in it, and a TvZ would have the Terran and Zerg tracks playing, either one after the other or every other track or maybe all shuffled. As it is now, it seems the client just randomly(?) picks one of the two races tracks and plays that on repeat.

Not that I'm the most knowledgeable person ever about SC, but that scout ball seemed extremely effective... and I can't think of a foolproof counter that zerg would have against it. Why don't protoss players use scouts vs zerg more often?
Edit: well duh, i suppose dark swarm and plague. Im surprised the zerg player didn't utilize defilers

It only works against lower econ. Higher econ zergs will just make static defense, tech ultras, and kill you with them. Ultralisks are unable to be killed by scouts.
hydra usually make a good job, so do scourge. Scouts are really bad against scourge compared to corsairs.
You also can pack spore colonny, it is not that expensive.
Later, defiler with plague are good. Or even queen if ensnare. Slowed scouts are dead scouts against hydras.
Here you have the same kind of problem as with P v T. If the terran has enough tanks, you are dead. So you must throw units at him to constantly reduce his tank count. Same thing should be done with protoss air units.

@@Ziegfried82 That wasn't even an issue of scouts OP.. he just had an insane lead going and so much money he could make 12 scouts at a time.. any unit is OP when you make a wall nonstop
