This is totally & completely FANTASTIC!!! Someone said "priceless" and that's an understatement. This unique piece of musical history is also a perfect showcase in where Rock, both modern & classical, originated - These late & great BLUES Legends, all members of the Best of Best in BLUES, though many of the Blues Artists here were way past their career's prime even here.. yet their performances are FLAWLESS - IMO I don't believe anyone can be taught the Blues because you're either born with the feeling or you're not however this gem should be used as an educational & historical piece in Music Universities and other Musical tuition institutions worldwide explaining of how the CORE of Big City Blues should be played regarding the specific type of discipline, concentration and tightness required to get it right
i agree absolutley - i'm over 50 years old but every time i hear this music i feel like twenty - i am austrian in vienna - we are used to classic (Mozart,Stauss etc.) but this is outstanding - i love this outstanding impressions in the face of lightnin hopkins - and i grab my guitar (wich one of the ten :-))
Soul of blues what an amazing hero And the energy and how well.he has mastered that little and great instrument Called harmonica no words left to praise This gentleman
What we hear on the radio and on streaming services today is not music like this is music... no auto-tune, no processing, just a live performance, no edits, no retakes, playing studio-perfect!!! THIS IS MUSIC!!! SHOW YOUR CHILDREN, REMEMBER THIS, BACK WHEN WE HAD REAL MUSIC!!!

Unbelievable footage; unbelievable! So cool. I cherished the cassettes that I have all of these musicians on in the 20th century. And now it's like I get to see them in concert.
I caught the end of this action in the mid 70s in a little bar on 15th St. off of Irving Place in New York City couldn't hold 100 people, all of them showed up to play big Joe Williams, big Joe Turner., Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins Sonny boy Williamson, and Buster Poindexter!
Sonnyboy would play those harps that are an octave lower than are usually played. That’s how he gets those raspy low notes. It takes so much breath to affect. That’s where his hidden breathing puts him a big cut above other players. He probably smoked Lucky’s Strikes because “they don’t get your wind.” 😅
I guess everything is irony...ie there is no irony. Blues isn't music. It is coping. It is survival. And so, you wind up on the front line of a battle that is three feet in front of the stage. Don't mistake the something more for the something better. This is merely authenticity. As such, Blues is gimmick free. Thank Jim Crow for the suits. This isn't an attempt to entertain. It is survival. But, if there must be a gimmick, then on this stage, the gimmick is 100% Authenticity. 9 sting guitar! A drapery rope for a guitar strap. None of it matters. These are the forces of Nature and their effects upon ecosystems in general. Blues is instinct...the result is sincerity! Thank you for uploading this! KC

The 60's UK love affair with black blues musicians was special time. They were all seasoned acts in a very different enviroment in which they had developed. We supported Sonny Boy once, just before he died. Such a humble guy. To us teenagers he was our grandfathers' age, we had never worked with someone so old. But half a bottle of scotch and a handfull of pills and he was ready for his second act... and unlike so many acts, what you heard on stage was just as good if not better than the recording.

This unique piece of musical history is also a perfect showcase in where Rock, both modern & classical, originated - These late & great BLUES Legends, all members of the Best of Best in BLUES, though many of the Blues Artists here were way past their career's prime even here.. yet their performances are FLAWLESS - IMO I don't believe anyone can be taught the Blues because you're either born with the feeling or you're not however this gem should be used as an educational & historical piece in Music Universities and other Musical tuition institutions worldwide explaining of how the CORE of Big City Blues should be played regarding the specific type of discipline, concentration and tightness required to get it right
Delta blues .

They just know what to play and how!!!!!!
i agree absolutley - i'm over 50 years old but every time i hear this music i feel like twenty - i am austrian in vienna - we are used to classic (Mozart,Stauss etc.) but this is outstanding - i love this outstanding impressions in the face of lightnin hopkins - and i grab my guitar (wich one of the ten :-))
Good thing this was filmed and recorded because some folks would not believe that these men were the Fathers of Rock and Roll.
Lightnin' Hopkins at the about 26.00 min aswell:P

Soul of blues what an amazing hero
And the energy and how well.he has mastered that little and great instrument
Called harmonica no words left to praise
This gentleman
Honored to see Wolf play this version of Smokestack lightning. What a voice, the intensity! Harp playing is better than I expected.
The blues forevermore!!!!
Saw it in the Free Trade Hall, Manchester (UK) and I've still got the poster on my kitchen wall!
This has all my favorites plus Willie Dixon on Bass Thanks for posting this👍❤️👍
What we hear on the radio and on streaming services today is not music like this is music... no auto-tune, no processing, just a live performance, no edits, no retakes, playing studio-perfect!!! THIS IS MUSIC!!! SHOW YOUR CHILDREN, REMEMBER THIS, BACK WHEN WE HAD REAL MUSIC!!!
I'm so glad these guys got some rekognition before they passed away.
What a wonderful presentation.Blues is my all time food.I am glad that I switched on this channel.I've stayed with these STARS all my life time.Thank you.

These Men Traveled a hard live. Keep the music 🎶 going!!!
Sonnyboy would play those harps that are an octave lower than are usually played. That’s how he gets those raspy low notes. It takes so much breath to affect. That’s where his hidden breathing puts him a big cut above other players. He probably smoked Lucky’s Strikes because “they don’t get your wind.” 😅
sonny boy gives me chills
Hes a real crook
The musicians, being so good, could tailor performance in an instant.
Lightnin’ is ‘da man! Lord Have Mercy!
Oh lightning o lightning he is def my favorite and the rest is my 2nd fav

Elmore James was supposed to be there but sadly died right before, him and my Grandmother was first cousins, two sisters kids
Lonnie Johnson. Ooooo sooooo smooth 😎

Amazing...These guys are off the hook...!!
Lonnie Johnson always makes me think of Django because of that tone he hits with.
Without these soul's we would have no rolling stones etc
Without the Rolling Stones and other British bands Americans would never have heard of these people. Howlin’ Wolf’s only appearance on mainstream TV was when the Stones wouldn’t appear on one show unless Wolf was their guest artist.
instants magiques !!légendes du blues !!!forever !!
Saw BB. King and Muddy Waters in my youth @ the Silverdome in Detroit. I’m 69 today. Such great performances. Lovin’ this !
Thank you sonny boy

YEAH BOYS YOU ARE THE BEST REAL LEGENDS
Estou até sem palavras , maravilhoso. Adoro Sonny boy Williamson e Muddy Waters
What are you trying to say
Howlin' Wolf💥 ((😳)) 🔥
Thank You! For the Gold Mine! So much love to you!
Wonderful! I've been listening to highlights from these tours for more than 30 years, but this is the first time I have seen them. Like the two beauties in the audience at 12:08 during the Lonnie Johnson number!
Sonnyboy steals the show! All of these guys are sublime but he's unforgettable, there's almost an erie atmosphere about him, such presence! And what virtuosity!!!
Check out the live album that Sonny cut with the Yardbirds around this time:

Probably because he played with RJ?Well that and he's just a Far King awesome harp player.
@@darcykelly7515 There were two Sonny Boy Williamsons. The first one may have played with Robert Johnson, but this one, whose given name was Rice Miller, I don't think he played with RJ.
@@1blastman G'Day, I just rechecked on the dodgynet and found articles that say it was Sonny boy Williamson II but who knows?I know I don't know I wasn't there but I can imagine it pretty easily.I do know that I love both RJ's and SBW II's music more than most, They're right up there with Blind Willie Johnson.
@@darcykelly7515 We are in agreement about loving both RJ and SBW.
Blind Willie is in that rare air also. his call and response with his first wife, Willie B Harris in "John The Revelator" might be one of the greatest blues\gospel songs of all time.
Sensational variety of the best in the blues.
Thank you, Ivan, for showcasing America's finest music.
Of course!
So talented...I've loved the Dog since -74 when I heard him for the first time
Lonnie Johnson. Unbelievable.
I would marry that babe! Her voice is priceless and breathtaking!
O blues é um ritmo muuuito empolgante, maravilhooooso
It's heartbreaking to see what has become of our music, what is being peddled as Black Music is not.
Lmao! the guy in the sunglasses during Muddy waters... fuckin groovin bud... nice to see a fellow corny white boy back in the day, feeling this like I am.... except he was there. super jelly. lol
BRILLANTES, musica muy emocionante. MAESTROS, gran legado
Muchas Gracias.
musica e interpreti superlativi
Great show, but to bad the Father of the Delta Blues wasn't there....Son House, but Thank God for Alan(Blind Owl ) Wilson of the Canned Heat Band for finding him and helping him to get back on his feet, and re-teaching him his music after years of not playing and hard living...What An Honor !!!

I wasn't old enough to be allowed to go to the '63 tour, but I saw the '65 and a few after, got a program for one from the DeMontfort Hall in Leicester, great memories.
