- What happens when you turn the balance of defense vs attacker too much? An endless stalemate after players have filled all of their available build spots!
I had to induce some lag by opening several browser tabs to encourage the game to end. Kind of like knocking the table in pinball.
In line tower wars, each player sends attackers to the next player on their right, while defending against attackers sent by the player to their left.
When attackers reach the base, they remove lives, and if no more lives are left, the player is defeated.
Towers and attackers are built by marble selection.
Gold is harvested by a marble.
A final marble determines when the attackers are sent to the next player.
Changes in this version:
- Crisis mode now does a free shuffle, ensuring at least 1 defensive option.
- New tower (splash damage) and attacker (elite)
Colours:
Red, Green, Yellow and Orange

I think my favorite team in this one was yellow. They held by strong, and with only one life left. Fighting off the Juggernaut that was green, too! Despite the game passing by their death like it was something less important, it still was thrilling to see yellow fend themselves off in this scenario.
It seems to me like the only reason Green didn't win much sooner was due to marbles clogging the first bend.
Look how shortly after Yellow died that Red's defenses were completely unable to keep up, and the entire top filled up. Yet the green marbles didn't flow as fast as the red ones due to the clogging effect.
Yellow at least had a defense that was somewhat well suited to deal with the marbles Green sent, but even then most of the green marbles were massively weakened trying to get through that initial clog.
In this version I've already reduced the size of most attackers, but reading your comment made me think of something else: why am I forcing myself to keep each of the bends the same size? There will always be more attackers at the first bend, so it would probably make sense to make it a bit wider.
The clogging did make the P marbles much more valuable. It gave them a lot of time to multiply and their splitting would suddenly release the pressure in the bend.
The reason Green had the clogging effect was because Green had too many heavy attackers, giants, and shields in its attack inventory!
There is so many ideas about how you could balance this. You could go with replacement(basically a better turret replaces its old counterpart ex: blaster -> minigun. Merge same thing as replacement except it requires 2 or more of the same turret to turn to a better turret. And adaptation which its probably going to base time or type of marbles. I thought of 3 category types. Swarm type, tank type, and specialist. Swarm is a bunch of normal and multiplying marbles. Tank is marbles with health. Specialist is marbles that has abilities like bouncy marbles. For swarm it is going to be suggesting aoe and shotgun turret. Tank will suggest shotgun, sniper and minigun. Specialist is dependent on their abilities it is not easy to make an adaption to them, im going to presume that there is an immediate counter to them. There could be more ideas that i probably haven't covered yet.

What you gotta admire is just how strong Green's horde and yellow's defense were. Probably most of the game was spent with Yellow being at one HP. Yellow had absolutely superb defenses. If Green didn't have equally superb offense, the former may have held out forever. The last time Red took damage before Yellow got eliminated was at 11:10. Funny enough, Green was probably the only one to take any damage during that long stalemate. After Yellow got eliminated, it wasn't long before Green was able to overwhelm Red and win. Red had an alright defense, one good enough to hold back Yellow but apparently not enough for Green.
this is fun to watch, teams going full ham is satisfying
Maybe three spawners of the same kind could merge into one stronger one?
(Potentially the same could be done with weapons too, but I'm not sure if that helps or makes things worse.)

I'd like to see a version where each marble attack dumps the same load on all other marbles, maybe with a nerfed attack though.
Also I noticed the attack frequency seemed higher. This does a good job of not killing the weak off so early in the game, but maybe not having the horizontal and vertical bumpers synchronized would make it a little more random.
I've recently got interested in Line tower wars and (though it is blooper) cool game! 😎

And, since there was a speed up, if all was on normal speed, yellow could have survived at least 20 minutes
4:07 was basically when Yellow's defense's corrected themselves and were able to weather the storm for so long!

I just discovered those stats at the top in the last few minutes. Something's odd with them though, green has both less Def and attack but still wins that well. Maybe the stats for each tower should be adjusted?
Also I had an idea: when all slots are full for guns or spawners, maybe have a selector cycle through them and replace whatever it's on with the thing that was bought. Alternatively, instead of replacing them, there could be upgrades if the types match up or even merging different traits. Like shotgun + cannon -> explosive shotgun
Nah, the prices are fine. The 300 Spartans literally holded off an entire Persian army.
When you're once again in a situation where you need to lag Unity in order for a simulation to finish, a better way is decreasing the task priority in the Task Manager (or Resource Monitor, if you prefer).

Is there a way I can simulate this myself? It genuinely looks fun to watch all the complex interactions fold out in so many unique ways.
If there's enough interest, maybe? I'm probably going to make my space battle playable first to see how it goes. Generally I'm also still trying to decide if I want to put it on something like itch.io or on patreon.

When all the turrets or attackers are filled out they should be removed from the shop. And while it wouldn't be balanced I'd love to see Proliferators in a match without cannons or other AoE turrets.
After all the attack and defense filled up, the gold is worthless

The best way to prevent this is giving green 20 elites to start so the game wont be too long making this unable to happen :troll:
Man that was a REALLY long stalemate. Hopefully you can add a patch to reduce stalemates such at that...

It seems like the proliferation marbles would of ended the game due to being pushed to the top and multiplying but the cannon towers, dealing damage to everything in a large blast radius, invalidates them.
I'm thinking of adding a set of upgrade purchases, e.g. +1 hp to all attackers, +5% attack speed to tall towers, etc.
The clogging caused such massive lag that Red's bottom defenses were clearly not targeting and firing as often as they should have.

Yep, I think in this version I had a 0.3 sec retarget cooldown, should probably update the system such that each tower remembers it's current target and does a retarget the moment it dies.

What do shield fields do? I’ve seen marbles under them get killed.
Reduces damage taken by 50%. Doesn't stack with other shield fields. You'll notice balls nearby don't get one shot.
I was really starting to think that this stalemate would never end... I think to prevent this from happening again, the defense weapons efficiency should lower over time, maybe just 1%/minute, so it's not really noticeable, but after 10-15 minutes it'll be increasingly hard to defend.
So is the reason why green won is because green was focusing getting fold than sending enemies ?
Ultimately, victory was about which player had the best mix of towers and attackers.

Here are ideas:
-regular shooting things can be upgraded into a sniper,shotgun,cannon,and mini gun
Enemy generator can be swapped with other enemy generator
Example: shield field > giant
Tho you cannot swap normal attacker generator for balance

It's defenses were able to properly correct themselves after that; for a good 14+long minutes into the video that is.
