Shacknews Head of Video and Nor-Cal Ghostbuster Greg Burke is joined by Chris Nance in this lengthy unboxing video. It's one of the largest packages we've ever been a part of, coming in at a whopping 26.75 x 14.57 inches. After grabbing a screwdriver and four "D" batteries, it was time to put the Proton Pack together.
Fans of Egon will enjoy the included straps, lights, sounds, and motor. There are also several parts of the Proton Pack that are modular, in case anyone wants to put their own unique stamp on it. Despite its dimensions, it's lighter than it looks, allowing for easier roleplaying. While the Proton Pack is a faithful re-creation of Egon's classic backpack, created in conjunction with the teams at Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Ghost Corps, there are also pieces taken from the 2021 hit movie Ghostbusters Afterlife to give it a more modern twist. You can check out the extras in the video below.

It can't directly compete with a true custom-built pack with real labor and parts behind it but for the price tag, the HasLab pack is an absolute steal. It is also easier on your back. 🙂

The sheer joy and giant smile on my face when I plugged my haslab pack to a big high bass speaker via aux and turned it on and it rumbled to life like in the movie shaking my back from the vibrations of the bass. Worth the moneys, I feel so bad for all who missed out and wanted one.

It's funny how honestly none of the particulars really matter because it's basically the same pack just one made to look a lot older than the other one. One has real metal parts the other some metal some plastic one is 15 pounds the other is 30. If you have a Haslab one it's still a GB proton regardless. You have a custom built that's fine also. Doesn't make anyone more or less cooler than the other

I just ordered cosmetic details off etsy for the pack and wand. They look sick and I hope they work because I am no good at modding. It comes with a dirty barrel decal for the wand and a blue decal tongue over the light bar and decals for the ion arm that will add the bolts and a silver strip for the clamp that holds the ribbon cable. Saw it on someone's pack and it all looked good. The bonus being I can remove them if I ever want to go back to the stock look

The satisfaction of making your own protón pack it (doesn’t matter the price you invest) is a satisfaction you don’t have buying one. Mine is not that movie accurate but I love ❤️ what I did. In fact I like more different personalized designs protón packs nowadays

I’ve built several packs over the years. Cameras hide flaws. The Haslab looks obviously plastic compared to a built pack. However, if you did a complete tear down light replacement and repaint and put proper fittings on, they could be virtually indistinguishable. But by that point, you’d be putting an additional 1k to make it look like its counterpart. Not a bad start though.

Um... you guys do realize that the HasLab pack is based on the Afterlife movie right? And it is 1:1 scale and modeled from it.
Just watch the mod video that Adam Savage made and he shows how accurate (with some leeway) the pack is. He had the actual hero pack in his show and took references.
This is kinda not a fair comparation. In many ways they are different from the start.
    Nice pack regardless though.

Very cool comparison video! I have the Haslabs pack, and a Spirit Halloween pack. I love the Haslabs pack as it's the first full-scale pack I've ever had, and how can you not just be all smiles when you're wearing it? Especially when it's only 15 lbs.! :D The Spirit pack is a great place to start for learning about the pack, modding, getting connected with the various folks who make pack mods and parts for the Spirit pack AND full-sized replica pack projects. The Spirit pack is an inexpensive "canvas" on which you can learn weathering and modding techniques so that when and if you decide to go full-scale, you have the skills and experience to make it look great. It's also really fun! And of course, it's size is perfect for kids. For the money, the Spirit pack is great, but I'm super stoked to finally have a full-sized Proton Pack!!
Thanks for the video guys! Keep on bustin!

It’s more than the small details. I have the haslab pack but don’t know one of these customs. They’re really the ultimate piece for a true fan and collector. For me the screen accurate light patterns and sounds on the both the pack and wand are what does it for me. Wish the haslab pack would’ve gotten those things down but for the price, you can’t really complain.

3:08 Wrong. It actually is real wire. I took mine off to replace it with a GB1 ribbon cable, and I noticed little copper threads coming out of the Hasbro ribbon cable. So it’s definitely real wire. Still looks meh, though

I think the Haslab cable is over weathered, but once cleaned up looks very nice and is easy to wrap and manage. I own a pack with a Fincher cable and while screen accurate, it is very stiff and bulky. Looking at my packs side by side, without reference photos, I actually prefer the Haslab. For folks wondering what is it like, it is essentially an old school IDE hard drive ribbon cable colored to match the GB ribbon. The cable uses colored rubber, so you can go pretty harsh on the chemicals to clean off the weathering without worrying about damaging the color.

Honestly it's a terrific replica, is it perfect? No. Can you work on it to make it better? Yes and quite easily actually. I've already done way more than I thought I would, and I want to do more still. I'm loving it and frankly I like the plastic/rubber build as I don't worry about it getting wrecked if I'm wearing it about.

WHY PEOPLE WANT TO MODIFY THEIR AFTERLIFE PROTON PACK TO A 80's PROTON PACK VERSION
WHEN WE HAVE THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE PACK IN 2020
    WE ARE FULLY UPDATED
    According to the story
The guys got old and they changed too living their separate lives,
the equipment got old too and the packs for sure were in the need for changes over the years they had to do modifications to the packs to be able to keep up for the next 40 years .
Yes comparing both proton packs against screen accuracy both are just right in their own specific way
The 3k proton pack (that looks amazing by the way) got frozen over the time, it is s a proton pack that was designed in 1980 and even 40 years later still a 8'0s proton pack version , even after so many years in 2020 no changes over the time.
AFTERLIFE PROTON PACK IS AN UNIQUE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT THAT SHOULDN'T BE COMPARED TO ITS PRE SUCCESSOR VERSION FROM 1980's
Now if we are looking for accuracy this completely based in the story
The afterlife proton pack have had modifications and possibly to keep those packs running in the gozer tomb he was in the need to use original parts on those packs then
Now Egon was living in a small town , Also IS NOT 1980 anymore so you can not buy the same parts many companies stop manufacturing the same parts after some years , let's give a reference, maybe every 8 years companies do changes to parts , or they are completely different or bigger or smaller,
Not easy for Egon tu buy the same electronics from the 1980's to be used in the equipment, needed to keep the maintenance for the proton packs 40 years later.
It seems that Egon did what he had on hand to keep the packs running
    (REMEMBER HE WAS BROKE)
SO the afterlife proton pack is accurate no matter if many pack builders are not agreed,
They will never be agreed if they still comparing a 80's pack vs 2020 pack,
Because (no looking to offending anyone) the packs that are based in the 80's are out dated
What about if Egon did figure it out that an small valve was more efficient after some modifications ?
    See? That's my point!
Think about it on the 80's he used what was available at the time according with the technology back then
In 2020 maybe the parts were smaller , different
Is not what happened in real life with computers, phones, many electronics?
So the ghostbusters movie is a sci- fi movie
But also based in our real world
Even the GHOST TRAPhad an improvement remember?
Let's see what happens in the next film what changes are coming
**my point of view is based in the actual canon story
Afterlife is Canon , not a spin-off movie , so all that happen there is real , based in true events .
Besides we all are ghostbusters fans we should support ourselves no matter what movie is , or the year of design
The only exception is 2016 movie 🤢
Let's no to talk about that🤣🤣🤣

    • @klamar123
      @klamar123 8 місяців тому +2

You're right about Alice frames, if dealing with repros. Rothco and Fox repros with straps are still going for around $75, not $90. An original 1970s LC-1 will go for more, with straps. As for pack costs, I got my Afterlife pack for $399. Reserved it during the crowdfunding. So technically they're correct... it and over 21,000 others were sold at that same price. A really good deal, and the window to back was almost 2 months with plenty of warning ahead of time. So fans who wanted it had plenty of opportunity. Obviously, aftermarket auctions and 3rd party costs would go up significantly. With 7K backers, seems on average, buyers got 3, and the limit was 5 per order. SO now there are plenty out there for purchase but as you say, at an increase. HOWEVER, after Spirit surprised us with their Full Size pack in the spring of '23, the market got flooded and I think demand for Haslab packs went WAY down. I have one of each (along with a standoff homemade version made of Home Depot parts), and the Spirit 1:1 is a really good deal, with lots of easy 3D printed mods on Etsy, etc. and it's even lighter than the Hasbro.

Of course you’re not going to see the original $400 (pack only) price tag - that was Hasbro’s price. Sadly, you’re going to have to cough up money for the markup from sellers because that pack is no longer being made.

I don’t know if others has noticed but, the Cyclotron on the Haslab Pack is NOT the same size as fan built Proton Packs or, the screen used Proton Packs.
The bumper on the Haslab Pack doesn’t bolt directly to the sides of the Cyclotron’s ribs, due to the Cyclotron’s smaller diameter.
Also, the “N-Filter” carves into the Cyclotron’s light “ring” above it. That doesn’t happen with an original screen used Pack, or fan made Packs. Overall, I’m extremely happy with my Haslab Pack! However, I am disappointed the Cyclotron isn’t the correct diameter.

To the guy with the custom pack, the rear HAT light on your wand shouldn't be blinking on and off, its the smaller light in front of that one that should be doing that in conjunction with the HAT light on the lower part of the wand near the clippard. Those 2 lights basically "wig wag".

Honest opinion, so please don’t take this personally. The paint application on the Hasbro proton pack blows the custom away, because the custom is ruined by a terrible paint application, making it look like a modified spirit pack. This is a damn shame, because this guy obviously put a lot of money into it, but it’s ruined by a very mediocre paint application.
The Hasbro factory paint application, although mass produced, still makes it stand out as “more real“. Such a better presence.
If you went to a convention and asked random people which one they thought looked “more real”, they would choose the Hasbro every time. 🤷🏽‍♂️

This can’t even be a real comparison because you can’t even get the Haslab pack now… This was a worthless video. And if you really want to get technical with this, he spent around $3000 on his “GB2 pack”, and he didn’t even get the right “blink” effect on his cyclotron... The Cyclotron on the Packs in both GB1 and GB2 did more of a “blink” rather than a “pulse” like they did in the video game… oof 💀
