Been Deep Sea fishing many times as a kid..that Barricuda should of been gapped or brought in as they had more than enough time..besides Unless laws have changed you couldn't kept the Groupper and would of had to cut your line as you wouldnt have been allowed to land it on a chartered boat..

But I stopped eating them a while back because their numbers have dwindled significantly and I think everyone should have the chance to see an 600 lb+ monster that will eat anything. Kind of like Marlin, they've hit a point in which they need to be C-A-R because they need some time to bounce back.
Big fish make huge numbers of little fish. Huge numbers of little fish fuel the ocean biosphere. Big fish are highly poisoned, little fish are barely poisoned. Don't poison yourself while depleting the fish-o-sphere! Let the big ones breed.

Nice to see some of the groupers not being caught and growing to the sizes not seen in a while. Go look at some of the really big ones caught back in the 1920s and 30s in the Florida Keys and watch the progression to the ever smaller ones by the 1960s.
They are plentiful and gigantic now. When was the last time yall fished. So many it's become a problem. In some spots you can hardly bring a fish up from the reef without it being taken by a giant. Go dive a reef or wreck. Even bridges are full of them now.

She and her boyfriend are talking about doing the Keys in October and they'll get a chance for catching some. I remember a few good spots to fish around Marathon.... the bridge over to Bahia Honda should be good, still? That gut just to the south of the public beach? Is there a daily limit? We used to have good luck in the 70s fishing at night... and if you get skunked fishing, there's always good places to get a basket of grouper fingers and fries. Thanks for the update! Cheers...

I don't mind at all that the grouper ate the barracuda. The problem I have with it is that while the barracuda will digest, the lure that was used to catch it will not and probably kill the grouper in the long run because it will get HOOKED into its stomach or intestine. So while the video was entertaining to watch the sad truth is that yet another monster grouper will die because the idiot didn't remove the hook and use a gaff to hold the cuda still till the grouper got there.

I'll even throw this out there, you know how many game fish that Barracuda has ripped in half while they were being reeled in? It deserved a death sentence.

I agree with you, if they had used the barracuda as bait to CATCH the grouper, I would not complain about the video, but they caught the barracuda and instead of releasing it, and perhaps seeing the grouper eat the barracuda they held it helpless as the grouper got a meal and entertained them. If they used a hook that is safe for the grouper, I look at these videos as positive as it is an incredible fish that is threatened which not many people know much about. They are AWESOME fish! And surprisingly, this is not an uncommon scenario at all given how aggressive the fish are and how they can literally 'suck' prey into their mouthes and swallow it whole. They'll follow it right up to the surface and sometimes even jump out of the water to grab a fish out of the hands of a fisherman.

never seen a grouper before even on a fishing show as I never grew up real close to the ocean......but I think I caught one as a kid in a canal in NC...that is if, like everyone says they dive straight down with the bait and cut even heaviest line on a rock.....even though the saltwater rod bent double before the line snapped,i was using a nickel sized sand flea as bait and nothing as big as this one pictured here would have bothered with that? ....that fish was something else! The difference is taking pleasure in it. These jokers obviously took some enjoyment out of this. They didn't witness an animal attacking another, they left the tired fish in the water and then "ooh'd and ahhh'd" when it got eaten. There's a difference in feeding a rabbit to a pet snake because it's necessary and taking enjoyment out of watching the rabbit being stalked and squeezed to death.

never seen a grouper before even on a fishing show as I never grew up real close to the ocean......but I think I caught one as a kid in a canal in NC...that is if, like everyone says they dive straight down with the bait and cut even heaviest line on a rock.....even though the saltwater rod bent double before the line snapped,i was using a nickel sized sand flea as bait and nothing as big as this one pictured here would have bothered with that? ....that fish was something else! MORE GROUPERS
