- Hori Hori Knives are an extremely versatile hand tool for the garden or for bushcraft. AM Leonard’s Soil Knife has made improvements to the traditional wooden Japanese Hori Hori knife. The knife can be used for weeds, digging, cutting, dividing plants, planting bulbs, digging seed rows, bed edging, potting, cutting branches, opening soil and mulch bags. Thanks for the review. I’m glad I’m not the only that loses garden tools. I’m always looking for bright colored tools.
You and me both! 😊
Great video showcasing the differences! The handle on my old hunting knife turned soil knife wore out after many years (soil science undergrad turned gardener) and I was looking for the model a number of colleagues had. Found it in your video!
I’ll add that after many 8-10 hour days spent in soil pits you get an appreciation for different knives. This one is great because the tip is just dull enough that it gives you different resistance based on soil texture which is really valuable information for both gardeners and soil scientists. Probably blasphemy but I’ve dulled other knives on concrete to get the same feel and it’s nice for it to just be there out of the box. The serrations are still super sharp for roots/ dividing bulbs. Best of all this plastic shouldn’t get gummy in the years to come. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing!. That’s a really interesting perspective and use for this tool.
@@briandaniels4sir in clay and tough soils can it be used without any fear? I know that it's written in knife's specifics but I'm asking cause I want a reliable opinion by a person that has already maked a good use of this tool.
What’s up Brian. I really do like that double sheath. Look at you making videos with a light jacket late January. Oddly warm this year. Thanks my friend.
Brian, I learned something new today and now I need a hori, hori knife. Thank you for the information!
Awesome!! I look forward to seeing it in use in your future videos.
@@briandaniels4 and when I do, I will be sure to give you a shout out! Thanks Brian.
Great vlog. I treated myself to one last season....I love it!! Just like you said I got one with a hand guard too (they don't call it a hori hori knife) but it is . I'm accident prone lol so better for me. Good to hear you mention it :)
Wow Nice and beautiful
Oh that knife is versatile, I need a knife 🔪
Question on the Leonard Deluxe which I have. What is the best way you find to sharpen the knife edge and at what angle? Thanks
I’ve not sharpened mine. But when I do I’ll probably just use a corona pruning sharper.
😮
Came for the knife, stayed for the cat.
Are the AM Leonard knives full tang?
I’m not sure if it’s full tang, but it is rated to 300 lbs of pressure. I’ve put a lot of force on it to dig with not even a hint of an issue. I used it all day Saturday digging, weeding, and cutting. I love it!
You could wear gloves abd solve all your problems with the hori hori
