  • We discuss the three garden tools that are most useful to the new or experienced gardener. If you were limited to only three garden tools you could do most everything you needed to with these three. We also discuss the five main garden tasks and which of these our three garden tools are most useful for. But of course we don't want to be limited to just three garden tools, so we'll look forward to part two where we discuss the tools we don't want to do without!

Really appreciate your presentations, not only is it evident that you are very knowledgeable about the content you are presenting, but you do it in a relaxed and comfortable manner. You relate your talking points in a manner that puts your audience at ease. As a retired nursing professor, I appreciate your "teaching format" and the fact that you include audiovisuals for each of your talking points so that there is little or no room for confusion. Keep up the good work! I have just ordered the AM Leonard deluxe gardening knife and sheath, as a mostly container grower this will be a great primary tool for me. Again thanks!

Good list of tools. I need to add the knife to my wish list.

I'm laughing out loud at the cow drama in the background, especially at the first of the video🤣! But, this is some good information. I'm going to have to look into one of those soil knives; I can see the usefulness of those for many things.

Ha, I'm glad you appreciated the added cow drama--I think you are the only one that noticed it!

Thanks so much for sharing, I am from Australia and really enjoy your content and honest recommendation. you advice on good quality tool really resonates with me, there is a saying that 'the bitterness of cheap quality remains long after the sweetness of the low price is forgotten.' which is eternal truth.

I’m liking the look of your garden cart in the background. Is it handmade?

It’s hard to find a well made shovel anymore. I prefer wooden handles for comfort but I’ve broke just about every shovel I’ve bought in the last 10 years or so. At least I still have one that’s about 30 years old that is my dad’s so I use it occasionally.

I totally agree. I think our top ten are the same! I do like my machete though, as it can take a lot of abuse I don't subject my scythe to!

    Hand tools
A potato fork (10 tyne) perfect for pitching, weeding, pitching, sieving weeds out of soil and sieving compost
A Piping shovel - ideal for deep weed removal and planting.
Flat edged shovel & spade - ideal and superior to the "clover leaf" shapes.
ALL with T handles (takes the strain off the wrists and lets the shoulder take the strain)

I’d say shovel, metal rake, hand trowel
