Excellent info. I'm going to purchase Stan's book after. I purchase the Starting Strength book. I will be turning 68. I focused more on bodybuilding throughout my weight training life style in the gym. More specifically dumbbells. 2003, I tore the distal tendon in my left bicep, performing dumbbell preacher curls. Switched to dumbbells to allow more mobility. Recovery was a tough way back. I have about 90 % mobility when supinating. I only possess15 % mobility when pronating. The surgeon botched the procedure. Then he blamed it on me. If my wife hadn't been in the room. Things might have turned really ugly. Considering he had dental floss arms. I'm continuing with strength training. I have set a goal for my 69 birthday to get on the 1000 lbs. board at my local gym.
Sickening podcast! Great info on both participants, Stan is a beast and full of experience, and Gillenwater is a super coach and seems like a cool guy who now is bigger and more jacked than ever!
As far as the sleep apnea, there are other options than the cpap machines. A good orthodontist can make you mouth devices to change things so you naturally get more oxygen at night and during the day. They readjust it every month and takes about a year to make the correct changes, but you notice the changes in about three days.
This is curious. Most countries don't let you bring in animal derivatives like meat. So I'm curious as to how he got his food through customs. I've had this issue when trying to meal prep for overseas
Ray, I'm somewhat new to starting strength methods, so what would a basic training template look like for a 50 year old male with lifting experience look like? I'm 235, 5'8, no health issues other than little aches and pains, but I feel like I need a rest when it comes to lifting. My numbers aren't fantastic, 1rm's are squat 300, Bench 235, press 205 and Deadlift 350. I also use specialty bars due to poor shoulder mobility. So SSB for squat, multi grip bar for Bench, Viking press landmine attachment for press, and I Deadlift with a narrow Sumo style Ala Ed Coan.
Hey, to whom it may concern.. So my story is that im 36 yrs. Old and when I was around 19 I got in a soccer injury and was introduced to pain killers and my stomach has never been the same ever since then.. I couldn't poop right right for years, my poops were so big and dry that it would hurt to push out.. Anyway what I'm getting at, is that I heard of zupoo and told my sister bc she had the same problem ever since she had her children.. So i convinced her to try it and it did not work for her at all, not saying it won't work for everyone.. But she said it was. Too weak for her bouls.. Lol idk what to do
I like some of Stans info The monster mash thing is a stupid name though. A 1960s song called Monster mash and it's a mix of meat and potatoes or rice. Lol nothing new. It's fine as a recipe just it feels contrived in a few ways for just mixing foods.
Apparently I've had walking Pneumonia since i had Covid in October. Didn't miss a workout or work until it got really bad a few weeks ago. Still didn't miss a single day of work. Calling off is for pussies. I had to quit cows milk and weed to get healthy. I've always been allergic to cows milk but it's gotten worse with age. My throat was closing off and since covid I've had a series of sinus infections and this last one nearly killed me. I quit weed cause i never want to cough again and I'd been mad at myself for a long time. I'm clearly ocd as hell and smoking was a habit i just couldn't fully get past. For me it was smoking i wanted, not weed. I already had done a lot of work towards quiting. I picked smoking methods and preparation rituals i hate. I hadn't let myself roll or smoke a joint in almost a year. I might have a hernia from all the coughing. Something popped while i was driving and coughing. However that could just be that adductor that's been giving me hell. About 6 weeks ago i woke up a muscle that had been very difficult to communicate with. The low bar squat really forces those adductors to work. Before i would struggle to get my leg from the gas to the brake pedal. No problems going brake to gas. The leg would go numb, it would take every ounce of focus to get it to move. Couldn't feel a thing. I'm pretty sure there's a hip flexor involved in this because it wasn't just the lateral motion i struggled with, lifting the leg off the gas was almost impossible. I would occasionally have to use my hands to move the leg. Now i have full control over the leg and it doesn't go numb but omg the level of pain when i go from gas to brake, it's significant. But that's good, pain means nerves are working. Also i haven't randomly fallen down or pivoted 90 degrees to the right since this muscle woke up. My knee doesn't randomly fold in anymore. My experience with this injury has been that muscle and nerve will stay alive if i make them move but they aren't necessarily awake or close to functional. When they do finally wake up and that cns connection is rebuilt they come back screaming and painful and the pain will last a very long time. Once the pain eases the muscle is willing to get strong again if i work it. Coughing has really aggravated this pain in my groin area and i can't tell if it's a hernia, or just the adductor. It's getting better so there's 0 chance I'll go to a doctor. Doctors are pussies who want you to be a pussy and think that's good for health. This has effected my lifting and i had to reluctantly take time off. I'm getting back into it but am focusing on lower weight with more mass building rep ranges. I think it's a solid move and foundation that will serve me well as i get back to actual strength work. I feel a little mass will get my bench and squat to go up faster once I get back into 5's. I think a little more size in my legs will help my deadlift too. Long brutal mountain hikes and a lot of kicking has made my legs disproportionately skinny. One of your coaches challenged me to get my deadlift to 500. I fully plan on shoving his challenge down his throat and asking him how it taste. It won't be a normal time frame or path to get there, but i will. I could just achieve 500 and say thanks for everything you guys have done for me but that bores me. No, I'm going to take that man's challenge, hold it in my hand, show your coach his challenge, then shove that challenge so far down his throat that it becomes a rectal violation. That i find very motivating. It makes me feel all warm and tingly. He called my 300lbs deadlift weak. You have no idea what I've been through to get to 300 and that mother fucker called it weak. Ok, mother fucker, ok. I'm gonna get 500 but only because then 300 will be so light that i can throw it at him and tell him to catch. I can't describe the amount of love i feel when i think about it. Mark laid out other strength standards and I'll be honest, I'm not 100 percent i can meet all of them regardless of how hard i try, but the deadlift, that i know i can do . The California chics who claim that because of muscle recruitment differences they inherently can go longer and harder than me, ha. I've already defeated their weakness. I'll tell you what chic, meet me at Lion Canyon trail. It's the shortest one i do. It's 2.5 miles and climbs 1500 feet, starting at 7500ft and ending at 9000ft. I can do it in less than an hour and 20. You'll pass out a die before you finish 1 mile if you try to match my pace. 1 person has ever out paced me and she was an ultra marathon runner training for a 250 mile race in the Andes. When you pass out and die in Lion Canyon you're gonna want to get back to living and walking quickly cause there's lions in lion canyon and you're fresh meat. The bears live on the next trail over, East Bear. You won't have to worry about bears eating your corpse, but Lions, yes, they are there in numbers. You won't ever see them unless they want to be seen. So unless those California chics can match pace with a world class ultra runner they are already preventing wrong. But a 500lbs deadlift, i never thought i could, but i know i can and will. I'm out. Maybe I'll watch your video, but without the pink lobster man, i struggle to care.
That’s a big chip you got on your shoulder. The dude literally says he doesn’t claim to have invented this stuff. People without a health/nutrition background, who don’t read those articles, would rather listen to a podcast with a meathead explaining all the takeaways.....why is that hard to understand.

Very few people actually have Lactose issues they have caseins issues. Look for A2 A2 milk - preferably Raw Milk - and you’ll be fine.
