Thank you, Lianne! This video is incredibly helpful. I have been working as a 1099 Locums and this is exactly ALL that I needed to hear and be reminded of as I prepare to do my taxes this year. Grateful for the content!
Thanks Lianne and Savanna, love this series of videos. Very informative and useful for those who have started PA school but are looking ahead to how they will use their skills.
Super helpful video! Really appreciate all the information. Thank you so so much!!! It was mentioned that there are several states where PAs are not allowed to work as independent contractors, are we allowed to in Florida?
Incredible video! Thank you Lianne. Do you have a payroll management company or accountant that you recommend to help manage/keep income organized please?
@@liannehahn1206 HI Lianne, thank you for the awesome info! Do you have an accountant who has experience with PA's who are independent contractors that you could share with me please? Do you prefer occurrence vs claims made coverage (what in your experience is the best kind of malpractice coverage and personal healthcare coverage to have as an independent contractor)?
@@Mari-oq6xf I use Tom Tachibana CPA out of Hollywood FL, he can work with anyone around the US remotely. He has experience with 1099 PAs. Always occurrence policy, I use CMF Group. Healthcare I cannot really speak to, I use my Husbands. If I was not married, I might find a w2 position that offered health benefits and then do 1099 on the side - or just deal with the marketplace options if I was making enough income considering I would have probably had good access to health care even without insurance given my position and network.
Thank you. Great information. I’m a new grad in emergency Med and urgent care. Interested in picking up some first assist as you mentioned. How did you gain traction in so many specialties? In other words how would you suggest finding work in specialities that you don’t have multi years in?
Does anyone know which option would be better for an LLC financially with accommodation when traveling: having the contractor pay the hotel directly (meaning I'm not reimbursed) vs I pay the hotel directly and can use it as a deduction?
Im all about credit card points. Why not do it yourself, get the benefits of the points accumulation and the write off? Maybe look into a certain hotel chain and get their credit card for the most benefits, stay loyal to a brand when you travel and increase your status with them for all the perks!
How will the new Medicare Bill allowing PA to Directly Bill Medicare effect our ability to own our own practice and how will it effect our overall compensation?
This allows you to directly bill Medicare without needing a physician to do so. This won’t change practice for example in cash paying businesses such as a medspa that doesn’t bill insurance, and it wouldn’t affect any 1099s who don’t bill (ex: paid per patient, invoice the physicians they contract for etc). This makes a big difference for PAs who were 1099 surgical first assists who can now bill Medicare directly.
What is an appropriate rate for billing clients per patient?
Im only 8minuted in & you’re sooooooo helpful! Thank you. I’m becoming a medical interpreter & this connects to me as well.
I can’t express how helpful this is! Thanks so much!

I use ADP for payroll, but any accountant you use can also do your payroll or bookkeeping.
If you want to become an independent contract medical worker, what kind of liability insurance is recommended to get?
I don’t know what type of medical worker you are. As a PA I have CM&F group malpractice
