Notice how the trunk slams shut when he sings the word trunk ? Notice how the candle behind his right shoulder lights up when he sings that subharmonic ? Visual effects are also so important. Jeff is a master at it.
Absolutely fantastic cover by Geoff - I've heard a million versions of this song, so it was great to hear him put a completely unique spin on his. Thanks for the interesting insight and breakdown. Also... please consider reacting to Geoff's cover of Misty Mountains for more bassy goodness 😀
Amazing Geoff, as always! He sure puts his own signature in his covers, and makes them into his own new songs! He's a creative genius! 🔥🌟💖 Thanks for another great reaction, Coach Phil! 😍
Hey Alex :) You're right! It's the signature that makes him stand out beyond other basses! Alex, while I have you, can you email me phil@covercoach.co.uk I have something I'd like to ask you about! Have a fun day :)
**Every time I hear Geoff Castellucci's voice, I feel the need to take a pregnancy test, & I'm 60 LOL** 😂🤣😂 One of my favorites from him, is Ain't no sunshine when she's gone!
Layne and Geoff in VoicePlay's last Podcast (on Patreon), actually mentioned #4 on your list. Layne said that when he first started watching himself beatbox, it was boring. So he started moving more. When the group did the minis with Cesar, they told him to make some kind of movement, because when you're in a group setting, it can be hard for an untrained audience to differentiate the parts. So movement serves a double purpose when you enter a group setting, or in this video's case, which Geoff is which.
Geoff Castellucci will always get 10/10 from me. This house is the best version, I have always loved this song, now I just love it so much more. And he have gone more originale on it, as animals was not the first with this (1964)
Hey Diana :) I think I'd have to agree with you there. This is an AWESOME version! As for the public domain original, I heard that the original lyrics talked about a place in the UK and The Animals made it New Orleans. Have a fun day :)
I need to learn how to use forward placement better. Even singing low I usually feel my voice in my chest and my neck, not my throat, my neck. and my forehead, and in some scenarios I feel it in my feet and hands lol. But for some reason I just can't figure out how to resonate in my face more. Maybe I am and not realizing it because I'm used to the feeling or something, I'm easily the most resonant bass in my choir, and one of the most resonant singers in my choir as well but it feels like I could still do more. Very good and informative reaction!
You absolutely need to react to Diana Ankudinova's cover of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. You could also go back in time and hear her covers of Wicked Game (Chris Isaak) or Take On Me (A-ha). All of which she has sung live in various environments (whether they be for a radio show set or a competitive singing show). She is an expert in harmonics (polyphonic production). Whether it be overtones or subharmonics. Also a contralto.
House of the Rising Sun is pretty fabulous. Check out his newest Wicked Game (Chris Isaak). VoicePlay just did Sleeping in the Cold Below (Warframe). One that they did Nothing Else Matters (Metallica) and a whole bunch of people said an a capella group couldn't do a metal song. They took that back. Chicago heard it and asked them to come to the Chicago and Friends concert last Nov 17-18. Their trumpet player was sitting beside Geoff wonder How does he do that?
I can’t see any pinned comment here, but I definitely give Geoff’s House of The rising sun a 10 out of 10! But I would give the same rating to VoicePlay’s My mother told me.
Great reaction, the only thing I'd recommend would be try to match video volume to your mic volume cuz otherwise it's a battle of notching it down every time it pauses.
tbh i love this it is the 2nd best but to me no one can match the original cause idk how to explain it they just put there heart and soul into certain parts which no one else can match geoff is the closest possible
The Histroy of this Song "House of rising sun" and there titles is interesting. In the original version it was not a Gambler. you can find some other versions in the german and english wikipedia side. To find other versions and background around this song
I get that the reason vocal coaches post reaction videos is to shill for their services, but honestly, this one was quite a bit too hard on the "I do coaching" at the expense of actually reacting to the music. To the point I'm not sure I'll want to click on your next reaction. Just letting you know.
Hey Gabriel :) I can see how you would feel that way. This new style is definitely a step away from the typical reactions we have on UA-cam. My goal for the videos moving forward is for them to be a genuine learning resource for developing cover artists, while still being entertaining and fun. Have a fun day :)
Sea Bass? Sea Bass....? Do we get some wine with that cheese? If you were my little brother, i'd have to pull your shirt over your head and tie the neck hole shut for that one! Yeah, the Geofftuplets show up in a lot of his videos, which is nice if for no other reason than it's more interesting than a disembodied voice in the background. There is one question that I have though from a singing standpoint. I noticed that Geoff tends to humm into a vowell quite a bit. Example: The second line of VoicePlay's "If I Were A Wealthy Man" video. ( Mmall day long I bitty bitty bum). What do you make of that? (Ricky Bobby voice) Nerd Goggles, engaged!
I personally love that stylistic choice for his voice. He’s has such amazing resonance in his hum, and it works similarly to the way country singers use fry-onsets to their phrases. Gives it more depth, and I love when he does it. He also dont over-rely on it, he starts more phrases cleanly than he does with any sort of onset.
@@leibmenter2331 I meant as far as why he uses it. Stylistic, to soften the onset of the vowell, don't think at that easy pitch it's a tuning thing, technical aspect stuff.
Hey Norman :) Yeah, definitely something fishy about that joke! 🤣 Listening to the line you mentioned, I think you're right that it's a stylistic choice. To take a guess as to why, I'd say that - because Geoff is so experienced and well known - he knows that even the way he approaches his notes is part of his brand, so he sings that way because that's what we've come to expect. Also, there's lots of country inspiration in his style too. From a technical standpoint, humming is a really nice way to find that forward placement we talked about in the video; he then bounces off that into his note. Have a fun day :)

10!
I'm old enough to remember when The Animals released this. I really like Geoffs take on it. He gets a 10

It doesnt hurt that Geoff is fine as wine either... his wife is such a lucky lady.

Hey Amanda :) That's really interesting and so clever that their movement is there for us to identify who's creating what! Have a fun day :)
Most of his covers are more than one Geoff. He got me when I found his "Sixteen Tons" I remember seeing Tennessee Ernie Fords TV show.
Hey :) Yeah, the Geofftet (just learned the proper term!) make a regular appearance in lots of his stuff. It's a really cool choice! Have a fun day :)
can’t suggest Geoff’s cover of sixteen tons enough! confirmed by the man himself to be sub-harmonic free
The proper term for a group of four Geoffs is a… Geofftet.
😂
Hey :) I've learned something new today! Thank you so much! Have a fun day :)
Geoff Castellucci will always get 10/10 from me.

Very good reaction with education. Love what he does with the melody.

You really need to do Voiceplays new cover of Hoist the Colours. It is by far one of their all time best. New sub here. 😊
Hey Jessica :) Welcome to the party! Yeah, people are saying amazing things about Hoist the Colours! Have a fun day :)
I agree, Hoist The Colors is an awesome version of theirs. Geoff's bass is one of the best in this song. Also Halo & The Dragonborn Comes.
