I always am fascinated by financial crimes like this because they must have been SO stressed. Imagine the constant paranoia and stress you would feel DAILY knowing you are scamming your friends and family. I know these people must be wired differently and so they probably didn’t feel like that but it’s insane to me because I personally would be living in a constant state of worry and fear that I was going to be caught I wouldn’t even be able to enjoy the money 😂

Hard to believe that nobody saw her "leaving the house" . The second husband knew more than we think he did.
Melissa was a tricky tricky girl, for sure. It is not worth it to die like that. She could be alive and milliinaire becayse she was very ambicious, but she chose to steal from others and did not end well. It was a matter of time for her to be murdered. :(

Eithre she was like a gambling addict and thought "I'll have a big enough win to fix this" or she didn't care what her friends and family would think. It was the prospect of jail time that made her run.

I had always had suspicions about his “business” because he had a large office in an extremely expensive area and didn’t seem to be doing anything that made money. He would go out to lunch and stay at the bar throughout the day into the evening drinking. When surprise visited him, he’d be sitting at his desk in the dark watching Rolling Stones videos. He dumped me unceremoniously, which at the time hurt me. Fast forward 3 years later, I’d moved to New York and woke up thinking about him with a sense something was wrong. We hadn’t spoken since our break up. I googled he and his business partner and found he was wanted for stealing millions from his investors. I called the plaintiff attorney and gave him every bit of information I had. He was found and served only 18 months.

Interesting that she defrauded an employer early on, but no one knew as they kept it a secret and look what happens later on as a result. In 2005 I befriended someone and gradually realised everything that came out of their mouth was a fantasy (pretending to be a jetsetting millionaire, which made no sense as she had a regular job and could not have been getting all that time off work to travel, the way she pretended she was). She was fired from her job for embezzlement and dropped off contact with me, fearful I would find out (which I eventually did). However, just recently I googled her name out of interest and because her employer did not have her arrested, lo and behold, she was caught embezzling another employer and the only reason I know about it, is that she was stupid enough to take them to the employment court, all over a few hundred dollars she claimed they owed her in holiday pay. Turned out she lost her case as she had been mistaken in her calculations and was owed nothing. Then the newspapers got hold of it, so now when you google her name, she has finally been exposed as a fraudster and embezzler. Just shows you, people like this don't stop. Her personality is similar to Melissa - really needing that "respect" from people, re pretending to be rich. She had spent all her embezzled money on things that made her look rich, such as designer clothing and she constantly talked about travel and her possessions. Such a sad person.

One thing that would've made it hard to for her to flee the country was that she was found out during covid. At that time there were a lot of restrictions on leaving the country, meaning it would have been much harder to go overseas.
Also, unlike a lot of other ponzi schemes she wasn't found out because she run out of money and failed to pay someone- she got found out because of the financial licence thing. That might have meant she thought the fraud could've lasted longer (since most of the money she'd taken was retirement funds) so maybe she didn't have an exit plan in place.

Authorities are working to get that money back for the fraud victims. She had put this $$ in her own name. They didn't say how much but was a decent amount. Victims of these ponzi scams usually get little or nothing back, so I hope these victims get something. Obviously they sold off the house and expensive items to recover funds.
