I’ve lived alone (with dogs) for over 12 years and retired 2 years ago and I love having my life to myself! I enjoy the quiet, peaceful life that I have. I read, paint, sketch, walk my dog, watch true crime videos (😂), and I plan on learning a new language and study history. I enjoy people, but I really enjoy my alone time 😊.
One thing that I have found very important in living alone, is to work on making your home as lovely as possible. Declutter, clean, organize. Light candles in pretty lanterns, get a diffuser and use essential oils to scent your home. Decorate, surround yourself with lovely things...which don't have to be expensive, go thrift store hunting:)
I moved into a new house 12 days ago after a horrible 13 months with a narc. I needed my washing machine plumbed in and rather than waiting on someone to do it, I DID IT MYSELF. UA-cam had the video, dead easy. 👍 now just to get one radiator working and I’m all set. 👍
Since later in life I became divorced, retired, & experienced the empty nest syndrome, I have learned so many skills. I got an allotment to grow vegetables, I joined a sewing club & learned quilting, I joined another club where I’m learning woodwork & I am renovating an old iron & wood bench. I’ve learned how to make my own beautiful Christmas/winter wreaths & done flower arranging & so much more. I never had time for these things before. I watch interesting things on UA-cam (like this) & I use FaceTime & Messenger to have regular videos chats with people I don’t get to see in the flesh. So although I do sometimes experience a pang of loneliness when I’m alone, especially at night, which I combat by reading good books when I go to bed, by enlarge I am quite happy.
So very pleased to read your comments, I too have lived alone for 11 years, sometimes, I'me fine, sometimes not but I do wholeheartedly agree with you that being busy is the answer. Well done you x
Never lonely, never bored. Books from the library, or Thriftbooks online. Puzzles. TV. DVD's. Exercise. Housework and fixing things. Feed the birds and watch them. Houseplants. Pet ladybirds over the winter. Had a "pet" jumping spider for years; he lived in my plants and moved house with me 3 times. I meet with retired friends from my work every month or two; we go to happy hour and share appetizers. Church. I have a wonderful gentleman friend, and we dine out, play board games, or go to shows. Recently, I adopted two abandoned kittens, and they are sweet and funny. There are lots of free and inexpensive activities in my community. I love living alone, and feel very blessed.
Keep yourself busy . Do happy things . Shop online . Do your hobbies like reading , gardening , cooking or whatever it is . Remember you are worthy and special
I do love my own company and enjoy the option of doing what I choose. Still I feel quite lonely sometimes and long for friends and/or companionship. I volunteer, go to the gym and have hobbies. None is a substitute for the loneliness. Thanks for your cheerful attitude and suggestions. You’re amazing.
My younger sister and I are both empty-nesters and live alone. She and I do what we call playing "doll house" where we rearrange rooms in our perspective homes. We decorate for the current holiday, or when there is no holiday, we decorate for the season. Right now, we are enjoying decorating for Christmas. This was a great video, Margaret. Yours is one of 12 channels I subscribe to and watch daily. I appreciate the work you put into your videos. And, yes, I do enjoy my own company! Thanks for sharing!
I love living alone (I have 2 cats & a rooster for buddies). I keep busy & do it at my pace. No one to tend to, or add to my busy but calm life. Be content with myself.
I lost my husband seven years ago and had never lived alone. I enjoy coming and going as I feel and decorating my little apt. I had someone tell me today I always seem happy. I think we choose to be interested active and happy.
I walk every morning, and just take in the nature around me, the quiet, the river, the birds etc... If I walk in the afternoon, I will listen to a self improvement or documentary type podcast. This year I made my decorations for my tree, and I look for projects to do around the house. I have a movie night for myself every week , and give myself mani/pedi after a warm bath get into some comfy pj's and sleep that night in clean bedsheets. I love to declutter (mostly my closet), it's so freeing! I love that I can watch as many reruns of the Golden Girls and there's no one else here to tell me to turn it off! 😁
I still work full time from home, so I’m busy. But I’ll add to this list to get some dumbbells and do a strength workout and begin a stretching program. Our bones, joints and muscles need this conditioning, especially as we age. In the winter, I walk circles around my kitchen island when I can’t go outdoors. I’ve been strength training for years, so I use heavy weights, but I started with 3 pound dumbbells all those years ago. I added stretching 2 years ago.
I truly enjoy my "alone" time. I have a lot of interests and enjoy my own company. I bake, cook, paint and taking myself to dinner is great! I even enjoy cleaning my house. And, of course, there's UA-cam!
I’m 69 and have been alone since 2013. I never get bored… I never get lonely… I always have a project I’m working on. Now in retirement I’m having a Blast enjoying life. I am exploring subjects I didn’t have time for while working. There is a 60 Plus singles group in my area. It is so much fun meeting new people, exploring the mountainous area, going to movies, sitting on the local beach, and so much more. My “ to do” list is long. My insurance pays for Silver Sneakers classes at the Community Center. I go to classes at least 4 times a week. There are weights and exercise equipment there as well.I listen to sermons on my phone. I listen to music on UA-cam. I enjoy dancing and watch many line dance instructional videos.
I’m just now seeing this - right as I need it. I’m 72 and now have found I really need to make a life that doesn’t include taking care of children or grandchildren. Your positivity is appreciated! So thank you

Despite that, I will still be taking bits of free time to work on hobbies, communicating with my family, and learning some new things. I enjoy your videos more than podcasts.❤
Hi...i live with my daughter but we have our own lives...love being alone...always have something to do...chores, gardening, looking at movies....just keep yourself occupied and u wont get lonely even if ur alone...thank u Margaret
I’d love to listen to Sixty and me podcasts. I’m a big fan of them and find them easier than a video - listening while doing other things eg washing up, cleaning! Also on long car journeys. Also I wanted to say thanks for this thought provoking video - just what I needed! It’s given me some ideas and also has got me thinking about what else I might enjoy doing in the long winter evenings. Thank you so much ❤x
I would love a podcast, I could listen while doing things around the apartment. I am cool with living my own life with me. I sometimes have low days, I miss everyone who has passed away or just moved on. But the majority of my days are good. It is absolutely imperative that we do things outside the house. I am blessed with so many museums in my area and historical tours to take, and parks to walk. But you absolutely have to get out of the house. Don't be afraid to be alone. You may see me and we can have lunch together lol! I am friendly and talk to people I see out and about, so you never know. Really good suggestions in the video. Thank you.

It’s summer here in Oz, I’ve lived alone for 25 years, but I’m blessed as I’m going to my twin daughters this arvo. Next Monday my twin son is visiting me with my 2 youngest grandsons❤️❤️ and same day my oldest is coming to stay for a few days 🥰❤️❤️❤️ I’ve learnt to never ask them to visit, phone etc. I feel so happy today. I’m also pushing past my physical pain and play Bridge again, as I ❤️ games like Scrabble as well. I tune in to you daily, so thnx for this 😊as I’m Australian it’s very hot today at 28C. Talk again Tuesday 👍
Thanks for doing this Margaret. I think it helps the ones who are alone to think of some other things we might’ve not thought of doing for this holiday time. I am unfortunately alone since I don’t have any siblings left or children etc. just very distant relatives. I am fortunate enough I can book myself a cruise during this time but in my younger years I wouldn’t have been able to do that but I still have family left then. I am hoping to meet some solo travelers even if I just meet one or two would be fine. If not then I will just have a good book and watch the ocean and listen to the lectures.
If I would’ve stayed at home I would’ve been silking and I don’t want to do that because I’m imagining everyone is with a big family with fantastic dinners which is not always true so I made the effort to do something different.
My husband and I are retired and we like to play cards. Things I like to do alone are crossword and word find puzzles. I have several adult coloring books and like to get out markers and color. I can always get lost in a good book. When it is gray and cold out I find it helps to take the dog for a walk and feel the brisk air on my face.
I would love podcasts from Sixty & Me! I walk every day & listen to a variety of podcasts & yours would be very welcome. I’m a knitter so I usually have a work in progress. Right now I’m trying to get photos from my recent travels into individual photo books. And I keep a Gratitude Journal-while sipping hot chocolate! 😊
I really enjoy living alone, it feels like something of a luxury after being raised in a large family and then raising my own family. I work full time still at 68, but then enjoy my home either with friends or in solitude. I love the freedom to do and live as I choose. Thanks, Margaret for sharing all your ideas and inspiration.👍❣️🙏🏼
Hi Margaret, Happy New Year! I have gone to dinner alone, movies alone. I like to knit, read and watch you tube. I bike and like to walk. I don't live alone but my husband works a lot of hours. I enjoy being in my home and organizing, decorating, cooking and baking. I also enjoy getting together with my retired friends. I learned how to play MahJong! Lots of things to keep me busy!
I gave a campervan , so i like to go camping , it doesn't have to be far, I meet other people at camping sites , they are usually friendly. I have a parrot and a dog I take with me
Yes, to the podcast idea. You’ve started and continued such a great website. I’m so glad I found it even before I was 60! You definitely filled a void. Thank you and all the best to you!
Podcast...at first it may be odd just to listen to your voice after watching you all these years and your pretty smile, cheeky winks, colorful necklaces, clothing, backdrops, etc. But I'm sure you'll have a large following with anything you try Margaret, you have a great sense of communicating that we all like so much :-)
Yes please on the podcasts! Because I am still employed full time, in this season of my life I already listen to the videos as if they were podcasts while I do self/home care chores. Next month I am taking a test run at retirement (planned for July 2024) and I am planning to explore more non-video 60 and me. Thanks for all your encouragement.
This is a lovely presentation, with lots of helpful ideas! You definitely have the key - find ways to connect with people and ways to connect with yourself!
To podcasts😊 I ofter listen to you tube videos like the radio as I go about my day. Means I can choose good content like yours rather than random stuff the radio sends out. I got cabin fever last winter and couldn't take a holiday so I went out for breakfast every day at a different Cafe in walking distance for a week. It was just what I needed!
Margaret, you are so inspirational! Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏. I am not living totally alone. I live with my girlfriend, but she is at a place called Clubhouse during the day. I am starting to enjoy my own company. I love to 🧵 sew. I have done a lot of these things while living with a group of women. Gardening at a place called Recovery Center. That took a lot out of me and was hard to do but I helped “the Center” grow lots of vegetables. Even though they ate very few of them. But that is how I dealt with the complete negativity of that environment. Also did yoga for 15 years. Not always a lot, maybe 10 minutes each day. Also, I did it at night when I couldn’t get anyone in the Recovery Center to do it with me. One of the women died early from diabetes complications. Very 😔 sad.
Thank you so much for these videos. I love love your content and I enjoy very much the friendships by being a Patreon member. Stay safe. Keep up the excellent work and I need it.
Hi. We are supposedly into summer now - you would never guess by the weather. :) Winter was my first on my own. I live on a relative's new small farm; my job is to help plant trees and build his house and set up gardens etc. But it's been too wet to do much outside. Evenings - To start with I caught up on sleep! Then I found UkTok and started learning to play ukulele. Heart for Art paint club is online. I'm learning to paint. When internet is down I'm learning to draw. I have written a children's book. The quilting shop half an hour away has UFO mornings on Fridays. I love going there. Lovely women. Chatter, coffee and sewing. Bliss. And I have just found a yoga class. The evenings can get a bit lonely, I have lived with my daughter and granddaughter while daughter did a nursing degree. We studied and supported each other for four years. Graduated, time to move on. They are in a different city. She has full- time work and little person is getting ready to go to school. I had to think about all the things I said I always wanted to do. Have time now. I would love a dog but it's not my place here. I can wait. There's so much to learn - technology is great. Doesn't give hugs though. Yes to a podcast Margaret, then I can knit at the same time.
Hi from Queensland, Australia. Thank you. Wise advice as usual. You look stunning in that colour and as always a stunning Margaret Original necklace. Best wishes from me and my condtsnt
You've got some great ideas! There really is no end to the things you can learn about using online sources, it's really incredible. I enjoy reading and am looking for an online book club with zoom meetings. Your church can also be a good source of activities as mine has several groups that meet online for social/topical discussions. Happy New Year Margaret and everyone here!!🥳
I do enjoy being with myself doing whatever I want. I understand your wanting to do podcasts, I just happen to be a visual person and I like watching. Thank you for the uplifting message.💕
Start playing an easy instrument like the ukulele: there are so many tutorials online and it's really fun. I just do it for myself, because it makes me feel happy.
I set goals for myself. Last year I wanted to be spiritually and physically fit. Got to study the Bible. Then got my nutrition and exercise in order. I’m trying for balance in my life-these were great foundations…PS there are “Senior Exercises” for all ages and stages. These are NATURAL MOOD BOOSTERS.
Wthanks for this. Happy New Year! Margaret! Yes, in the summer I keep really busy, but I was getting lonely these winter nights. Thanks for these ideas. And yes, I would enjoy podcasts also!
Not much scope here when living in a rural area. Of course in greater Colombo there are many things to do, but can't afford living 8n a place like that. I enjoy my time reading watching lots of TV, decorating my home, journaling or scrapbooking all though that too is an expensive hobby, listening to music, etc

I’m a knitter so I usually have a work in progress. Right now I’m trying to get photos from my recent travels into individual photo books. And I keep a Gratitude Journal-while sipping hot chocolate! 😊
YES for Podcasts. I listen to them when cleaning or sewing!
This is one of my very favorite videos! Thank you! Love your positivity. Makes me want to watch you EVERY DAY!
Yes I do enjoy my own company. The ideas of how to spend the winter is excellent. And a resounding YES on the pod cast
I have a parrot and a dog I take with me
Enjoy your hobbies without judging the results! Enjoy just the "doing" just for the sake of the experience.
Thank you Margaret, once again your a real inspiration and joy to watch/listen to. You make me smile 😁😉
Yes, to the podcast idea. You’ve started and continued such a great website. I’m so glad I found it even before I was 60! You definitely filled a void. Thank you and all the best to you!
Thank you!
Yes to a podcast - even if it’s just talking about the events and simple ordinary parts of your day, it’s still interesting
Thank you for encouraging us to be happy and creative!!🥰
This is a lovely presentation, with lots of helpful ideas! You definitely have the key - find ways to connect with people and ways to connect with yourself!
Glad it was helpful!
Very 😔 sad.
Yes. Do a podcast. I can listen while I’m out in my studio.
Thank you Margaret always such good advice and help, also a pleasure to listen to xxx
Yes, a podcast would be wonderful!
I'm looking forward to new year have new 1st grandbaby🤗😍🤗
Thank you so much for these videos. I love love your content and I enjoy very much the friendships by being a Patreon member. Stay safe. Keep up the excellent work and I need it.
You are such an inspiration 😊 Thank you for your fresh perspective ❤❤
I would absolutely listen to a podcast of yours! You have a soothing and lovely voice and wonderful topics.
Hi. We are supposedly into summer now - you would never guess by the weather. :)
Winter was my first on my own.
Oops!.. My constant companion Miss Boo, an elderly rescue Russian Blue cat.
Best wishes Jo
Yes I'd love you to do a podcast!
Thanks for all the great ideas Margaret!
I personally like seeing you/ your expressions, I also like your shorts.
Would love your podcasts 😊
I earned most of my life-altering successes when I was single. Committed relationships tended to use up my creative energies.
You've got some great ideas! There really is no end to the things you can learn about using online sources, it's really incredible. I enjoy reading and am looking for an online book club with zoom meetings. Your church can also be a good source of activities as mine has several groups that meet online for social/topical discussions. Happy New Year Margaret and everyone here!!🥳
Love watching your video. I love my space and my company very much.
Thank you!
Excellent ideas thank u so much .☺😍☺
Thank you Margaret for great advice. I really enjoy seeing the Videos the best. ♥️💐
I love to hear you say “any who”. 😊
I would love a podcast.
How do you enjoy your alone time? Are you feeling a bit lonely or bored this winter? How are you coping? Let's have a chat!
I totally enjoy my own company.
I love living alone, never listen to podcasts but thanks for the videos which are great.
Absolutely yes for a podcast! I would love it.
I set goals for myself. Last year I wanted to be spiritually and physically fit.
Got to study the Bible. Then got my nutrition and exercise in order.
I’m trying for balance in my life-these were great foundations…PS there are “Senior Exercises”
for all ages and stages. These are NATURAL MOOD BOOSTERS.
I actually prefer watching….
Liked the reminder of hot chocolate ☕️
I prefer video, Margaret. (Some of us are visual learners.). Thank you very much! ❤
You are a lively lady with great 👍 ideas. I retire next year at 58. I want to learn Italian.
Happy New Year!🇨🇦
Same to you!

Great ideas and thoughts. Thank you Margaret...and yes start a podcast. Great idea 💡
Podcasts would be a great addition to your channel.
Tyktok would be great!!
You have the most beautiful eyes and smile. I just love listening to you! Helps me not be lonely!
