Sometimes with a wraparound bridge, the "knot" on the string lies on top of the bridge and pokes your hand when you are palm muting. To avoid this, you can clip the ball end out of your old strings and put the new strings through it. That will move the pointy bit back just enough.

Another suggestion might be to loop the strings around the bridge the other way around, such that the strings take a full turn around the unit. Results in less fiddling around with spare pieces of old guitar strings, but may be slightly less convenient when taking the strings off again.
Naturally, this would only work well if the bridge unit has sufficiently recessed holes for the ball ends of the strings.

A little late here, Michael, but just to clarify, turning those bridge posts clockwise will lower your string height; counter-clockwise will raise your string height.

So cool to see ya working on many different styles of guitars . Very informative and straight to the point...what's not to like? I'm TOTALLY DIGGING this series man,too many guitarists are simply just scared to death to touch ,work on, or adjust their own instruments in any way. The only way to learn is by watching and DOING just that!!! I can't wait to see the #DIYKITCHALLENGE entries and hear them myself!!! Totally cool of #Thomann to do this...they should do it quarterly maybe...keep a "Fresh supply" of DIY ers if ya know what i mean lol... One video you could make Kris , is one about the age ol dilema of those "Not so good" cheapish tremelo style systems on Strats and Start copies. Ya know, the old 6 screw,3 spring systems that NEVER STAY IN TUNE lol....simple fixes, adjustments, replacements ,etc... that would be COST EFFECTIVE AND WORK!!!! Thanks man, hope you enjoy making these as much as i do watching em,seems as if your having fun!!! What a cool job huh? working on,playing and talking about guitars and modding and building them!!! Sign me up...LOL. Stay Safe All- N - PEACE !!!!! #Thomann #Techtips #Guitarsetups #Harleybenton

Thank you so much for this video. I have a cheap bolt-on Les Paul copy, but when it's set up and new strings are properly wound around the tuning posts, it sounds beautiful and rich. So what if it's not expensive wood, or doesn't have an expensive brand name on it? I always go back to this video for a refresher whenever it's time to put on new strings and test if adjustments are needed. Thanks again!

Very helpful video, much appreciated. As someone who is not new to playing but new to setting up guitars, if the strings are loosened, then how do you test the tuning? Do you make an adjustment then re-tighten all the strings? Hopefully this is not too dumb of a question. Thanks 👍

You are lucky that your bridge sits well in the studs. In 2022, I bought a US made Gibson SG Special and It came with studs, which left too much space for properly holding the bridge at zero angle. Instead, the angle was so big that the strings left the bridge before reaching the compensation heights.
I bought some TonePros studs that allow to tune the space for the bridge. It was an easy repair and now the bridge sits well at zero angle and the compensation works nicely - after the proper distance tuning you have described in your very helpful video.
Only I do not understand why Gibson sells new guitars with such crappy studs?

    Hi
I been wanting to get one of these guitars, the Custom Shop version. Then I saw a video that scared me away from it.
It was talking about that the bridge doesn’t fit snug on the post , so when the strings are under tension, it actually tilts the bridge up and throws the intonation off.
Can you comment on this ? It’s the only thing holding me back from buying this guitar.
    Thank you.

    Kris,
Question. I have a 2021 Epiphone Les Paul Special and want to put a fully adjustable bridge on it to be able to fully adjust the intonation. I do not want to have to pull the anchors out and possibly damage the surface of the body, so I need a replacement bridge that the the original locking studs will be usable or the the replacement locking studs will fit the original anchors. I have read numerous reviews on sellers sites where the bridges were not usable because of these issues and the purchaser also did not want to have to pull the anchors out to be able to use them. I have no desire to purchase a bridge that is not going to be usable and be stuck with it or buy randomly returnable bridges hoping that eventually one of them might work. Any suggestions on a particular bridge manufacturer for this guitar? Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I bought a Gretsch G2215 P90 with this bridge system and they fell out of tune every time. The movement you make at minute 4:19, on my guitar is very noticeable I put it horizontally it seems as if I were pulling a vibrato lever and my guitar doesn't have it, is that normal? I 'm thinking this was a not deal. :(

Are the 2 screws on the end supposed to be all the way out when you set it up? Mine came with them screwed in halfway, so I just left it like that when I set it up, but it seems like having just the ends of the screws as points of contact makes it more unstable as opposed to having them all the way out.

Yes yes yes, absolutely yes. :) Thicker strings intonate differently so you need to readjust things. There are guitars (bridge types mainly) that can't be adjusted for extrem strings/tunings. You have to try it out and see where the limit is for your guitar. Cheers! //Kris

Did you loosen the strings for the intonation adjustment? If you keep the strings under tension that usually messed up the thread of the two little screws. If you detune the strings you can try to fully turn in and out those screws to test them. If one gets stuck somewhere it's probably bent and needs to be replaced. I hope that helps. //Kris

Nice video m8 ! You are doing a great job ! But no matter what .... wrap around bridges suck big time
They are the worse kind of bridges and that is not even the worse part ! The worse part is that with time and because they pulling force of the strings is way up the bridge becomes a lever and it starts compressing the wood inside the 2 holes while the bridge's position slowly shifts forward messing everything up. If i ever become a dictator these bridges will be banned and erased from history and memory and i don't need to tell you what will happen
to the ppl that by accident invent them again ! Mouaaaahahahahahahahah.

You are right about the lever effect. Being driven by 50kg of sum string tension, that is some serious rotational torque the typical wraparound one-part bridge assembly has to endure.
It’s the kind of torque dentists apply on a sick tooth, in order to facilitate extraction.
There are however one-part stud mounted compensated bridges on the market that are not wraparounds, and that produce only a fraction of the rotational torque. Google Dorian LRQC bridges.
You are spot on with regard to the studs leaning headsides over time, on account of compression of severed wood fibres in the post holes. 50kg of sum string tension exerted on threaded studs sticking out of cylindrical bushings crushing the wood fibres in the post holes, add some serious angular torque to the already serious rotational torque going on.
But what is worse: the torquing, the levering, and the crushing of fibres never stops. It progresses. Slowly.
Again: check out Dorian bridges again: they come with flat-fronted bushings inserted at a 2° back-angle.
There’s however one problem with the Dorian LRQC one-part bridges: they are invented by a woman.
