    Really good, thoughtfully produced review - thanks!
    I’m very torn on this vs the standard mount just because I’m concerned about the increased gap from the thicker mount ruining the ‘it’s an art piece not a tv’ effect I really want.

      Thanks! At the risk of sounding like a defensive salesperson, I would say that the difference in the gap between the two is fairly imperceptible.

      Hi. We had the same concern. But with an additional decorative frame, it really isn’t noticeable. And, you need room for the wires to move.

    I think you're the only person out there right now with this installed. I can't find any specs/drawings on this rotating wall mount. I am renovating a room and I want to put wood blocking in the wall and run the wires to the perfect spot. Is there anyway you can do a video detailing the size and thickness of the wall mount, where the wires should come out, etc. Any pictures you have of the instructions provided or a video on just the wall mount itself. That would be awesome for the community!

    Good review! Quick question, whilst in portrait mode, do you find that the aspect ratio is somewhat too narrow and thin? Does portrait mode truly look like a piece of artwork on a wall..
    Thanks

    • @jerzyjd
      @jerzyjd  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks James! You know, I was curious about the exact same thing before buying. For photographs taken vertically, I found that the aspect ratio didn't really cut out too much of the picture, and it seems pretty good for photos.
      For art work though, most canvasses are considerably wider, so I found myself struggling to crop some art work (Mona Lisa looks great for example, but there were a lot of Van Goghs and Renoirs that didn't). But to answer your question, 9:16 isn't as narrow as I would have thought, and it gives you a lot to work with. Also, while I don't subscribe to Samsung's art store anymore, I've seen on reddit that some users complain that there are zero portrait mode paintings up yet.

    @jerzyjd, amazing video thank you. Can you please help me understand, at what point does the screen auto rotate by itself. I have lots of portrait and landscape photos and would like the TV to auto rotate rather than me doing it every time. Also, do you have the crop the pictures to perfect 4k to get full screen without borders? Thank you so much

    • @jerzyjd
      @jerzyjd  9 місяців тому

      Maddeningly, that is not a feature -- the auto-rotating wall mount does not actually automatically rotate. I don't get it either. And you do need a perfect 3840x2160 (or vice versa for portrait photos) aspect ratio to avoid having a dumb border put around it. Nonetheless, I still thoroughly enjoy having it.

    Excellent review thank you. I am considering getting a 75 inch and hanging it as portrait mode (since this size doesnt allow auto rotate) OR a 65 with the auto rotate. This is for my office and I wont be watching long movies or stuff like that. But its an amazing feature to have - I just don't know if I will be rotating it as much. Would you prefer a 65 with auto rotate or a 75 in portrait?

      I appreciate it! I think the overall wall size matters, but if it's important for you to be able to put up a wide array of photos, I would nudge you towards the auto-rotating option. Nice review... great to see some Canadian-produced content. 🍁
    Is anyone using the 2022 model with a fixed mount for portrait mode? There are some third party solutions that minimize wall gap but I'm surprised that Samsung isn't offering their own option for people who don't have any interest in rotating the display.
    Also: is anyone using the Frame to display movie posters? There are other solutions available out there that there less costly but they don't offer the same value-adds that make the Frame so compelling.

      Hey Edwin, I believe so, but I'm not entirely sure. My impression is that the TV rotates automatically based on its internal gyrometer, but I'm not 100% that there isn't some programming that will only allow it to work if it has the auto-rotating wall mount. I do seem to recall a lot of other people installing their TV's vertically without the auto rotating wall mount and it working.

      It does indeed require its own wire, so you now have two wires being run through the wall. It's a similar wire to the one that connects to the OneConnect box, and it connects to an identical AC adapter, which then connects into the wall. Point for the in-wall mounting option.

There isn’t any twisting of the wires, and the rotating mount has instructions on where to insert the wires in cavities on the back of the TV. Came here just to double check if I had faulty "auto" rotate wall mount. There is nothing auto about this wall mount! I thought it will rotate whenever it detects the right orientation but no! What a waste. Samsung even makes you edit photos in the app in the orientation it will be displayed, I thought they will incorporate this and send a code to the TV what orientation user wants this picture and whenever that picture hits the slideshow, read the code and rotate but nooooo. Bravo samsung engineers bravo. This could have been programmed within a day.
    Again, this is not auto rotation wall mount, its just motorised rotation wall mount.

      My thoughts exactly. I've done away with Samsung's UI entirely, and have the TV hooked up to a Mac now, and use the desktop wallpaper screen to shuffle photos. It finally gave me the opportunity to functionally use both landscape and portrait pictures, albeit without the ability to AUTO rotate. Samsung does boggle the mind though with how badly they neglect this product's software, especially given how good the hardware's design is.

      @@jerzyjd Mac dedicated for that TV or your own Mac? What are the main problems you solved by going that route?

    • @jerzyjd
      @jerzyjd  Рік тому

      @@arko986 So it's a dedicated Mac for the TV. The biggest annoyances of the built-in art mode for me were (a) that there was no way to create dedicated albums, i.e. one with just portrait photos and another with landscape, and (b) if you really like adding a lot of photos, it sucks having to manually remove the automatically applied matte border.
      Using a Mac UI allows you to make as many sub-folders as you want (for instance, I create some sub-folders just for art, others for sports pictures, others for music pictures), and you can actually switch between portrait and landscape photos.
      For adding photos, I was able to add thousands of photos by sharing a Dropbox folder among all my devices, so I just use that dropbox folder for the wallpaper. No more one-by-one adding of photos onto the stupid TV, removing the default white border, which took so much time.
      Another nice touch is that if you like high res photos, you have virtually unlimited hard drive space.
      Definitely an extravagant solution, but I've really been enjoying it.
