Great video & great use of the beading tool, coupled with that handy indexing feature. Now throw in the wood burning/pyrography and skilled wood turning & bam! Great little video & ornament too.
Let begin with, I generally don’t like Christmas music, but I really enjoyed that song you chose. You had my toe tapping. Secondly this video is just more proof of why I believe crafting should be a standard part of math education. Having students be able to see how math directly coordinates to the real world would , in my opinion, make the concepts easier to understand. As always the piece did beautiful. Thanks for the video, and Merry Christmas.
Thank you so much!! I totally agree! I struggled with math and if I was doing a project I was interested in, it would of made it a lot easier! Merry Christmas!
Agree - then again, that handy indexing feature on Carl’s lathe takes the calculations / math out of the equation. But I agree, practical application of “maths” to every day situations makes learning fun & practical, not abstract.
If I would have started it right after you finished the burning, I would have thought, you were going to turn a sea urchin. LOL It looks great Carl!! Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Another terrific video, Carl! I will try this soon. You always inspire. I was also touched by the way you try to throw a little love in other peoples direction. It certainly comes back to you. Happy holidays!
That looks great pal, what a neat idea! I didn't notice any issue with the line burning so I'm sure it's fine :D I had a go at basket illusion a few weeks back and it was definitely inspired by your work. Thanks so much for continuing to inspire and inform. Cheers!
Hi Carl, Superb ornament my friend. Haven't tried it yet but on my long list of things to try this year. Have subbed to the new channel as well. Take care Carl. Cheers, Huw
Awesome job and very creative. It looked like to me your burning wire tool was handmade. If it was what type of wire did you use and where did you get it?
Carl, your platform problem may be a simple to correct one. I noticed at about the 2:46 point when you were installing the platform on the banjo that you left some shavings on the top of the post support. I don’t know if that was enough to cause your problem, but if so it means an easy solution, just blow off the top of the banjo post support before putting on the table. 👍 Cheers, Tom
Thank you for the Niles information. I love Ruth's quality and more importantly my friends love the gifts. I'll be checking out the new channel. Have you ever turned Ohia wood.
Bought a set of the beading tools you use, luv em! Just got some of that sanding paper in too. Took a month to get here. Hopefully find an Australian stockist. Haven't tried the paper yet. Now thinking of that walnut oil.....is it the same as in the supermarkets that is coldpressed, whatever that is!!!?
Very cool Chris, the beading tool is awesome! Yes shipping right now is crazy! The sandpaper works very well, and hopefully you'll get a distributor over there soon. I know Doctor's Woodshop doesn't ship the Walnut oil overseas, but I would go to his website and check the description. It might be close to the same thing?
Ya learn something new in each of your videos. Never realized playing cards could be used to burn the grooves. I use a wood tongue depressor sharpened on the end to burn the grooves instead of wire. I had a bad experience using wire and found an alternative method. One or two other wood turners on UA-cam do the same thing.
@@CarlJacobson Yes, it will do the same thing. The only difference is that the tip must be sharpened so it can fit into the bottom of the groove. Need to spin things a little faster too. But, it is safer than using wire in my opinion. Others may disagree, but that’s what makes the world go around.
That’s very cool Carl! Hopefully Santa will bring me a new beading tool for Christmas. Is that sand paper you used the 3M Xtract Cubitron? If so, how do you like it, and do you have a link for that? Hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas!
Thank you Brett!! Fingers crossed on the beading tool, it's awesome! Yes the sandpaper is the Xtract and it works great! Here's the link, lddy.no/11pnk Take care, and Merry Christmas!
I love the project Carl but I did notice you seem to get a lot of tear out using the easywood tools. Is this normal or was it made worse because of the type of wood. Merry Christmas. Cheers, Ben
Thank you Ben! I hope you had a Merry Christmas too!! The wood was really soft, that's why you saw all the tear out. I wasn't worried about it because I knew I had to recut it with the beading tool. Carbide is not a good choice for soft woods if you're trying to get a clean cut. It's great on hard woods though :) Take care buddy, Carl

Thank you Mark! The platform will fit on any lathe you just need the right size tool post.
@@CarlJacobson Thank you

Nice, Carl. Woven baskets aren't perfect anyway so your ornament looks natural. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

It is extremely heavy. But also soft. Seems odd.
