    Useful info. From what I can infer from this input is hair dye treatment has to be discontinued. Have I got that right?

      Ideally yes.PPD seems to be the main factor in causing the pigmentation and therefore avoiding it may help reduce the pigment. Using natural hair dyes may be an alternative and here is a video on it

    Thanks a lot for the information. My mother is suffering from this condition which has resulted in the downfall of her confidence. Can you please suggest some treatment to clear her skin again and so that she doesn't face this condition ever again? Also, please suggest a good natural hair dye which provides coverage and will not trigger the condition further.

      The most important step is to stop hair dyes that have PPD. I did a lecture on natural hair duyes recently which I will upload soon. Here is a video I did recently on the use of coffee as a natural hair dye.

    Do you believe hair color - especially those with PPD - contributes to melasma too?

    • @DiscoverDermatology
      @DiscoverDermatology  5 місяців тому

      Good question! Pigmented contact dermatitis is a distinct entity and can look like melasma. There are some reports which suggest that melasma can occur with hair dyes too. I suspect they are different though. It is certainly worthwhile stopping hair dyes, whichever the condition!

      The most important step is to stop using all hair dyes. I did a lecture on this recently and will upload it. It mentions the natural hair dyes that can be used. Generally, interventional treatments like lasers, hydrfacials can irritate the skin. Medical treatment like tinted sun screens and oral tranexamic acid may be beneficial. You are right, sometimes natural treatments cause problems too. I will not be surprised, however, if the suppliers have added a tiny bit of PPD to the natural mixtures. To reduce the pigmentation, tranqxeamic acid is an option that can be discussed with your dermatologist. Here is a video on it
