This song is from their 2014 album, Cloud Factory, and the performance is from 2018, not too long after the "Pisces" live session in 2017. Current drummer Vlad is playing here; he joined in late (?) 2016, just after the King of Everything album was released. Tatiana's appearance has gone through a lot of phases, so it's pretty useful for dating purposes. Here, her hair is shortish, but much longer than in the "I Speak Astronomy" OMV (before which she cut off her dreads), and a bit longer than in the "Pisces" live session video, but she's got no sleeve on her left arm and her right hand and neck aren't tattooed. I don't know the exact dates of all her tattoos, but I know that she had her left arm sleeved before they recorded Micro (late 2018), but didn't have her right hand or neck tattooed until after it was recorded (there's a promo video for Micro showing them (including Tatiana) recording Micro). By the time Macro was released, she had had her right hand and neck tattoos done. Micro was released in January 2019, Macro in October 2019.
This song might be more progressive than you realise on 1st listen, even aside from the reggae-jazz-blues fusion of the outro. During the 2nd set of verses (after the 1st chorus), the riff is markedly different than during the 1st set; one iteration of the 1st chorus is done in double time, & that's the only time that happens; the section with clean vocals features some surfer-style guitar work and wild bass runs; the breakdown has an entirely different riff and bizarre timing. Genre-wise, I've heard Tatiana introduce this song as "hardcore" several times, but I don't see that at all. To me, the overall feel is groove metal, but with progressive elements, so Eugene's term "progressive groove metal" fits this song to a tee, IMO.

This song is from their first full album released before they were signed to a proper record company. The Cloud Factory album was so good that Napalm Records re-released it. This is the song as performed by the current lineup. When Cloud Factory was released they had two guitar players. She's always been dynamic on stage. She bounces around stages that have more square feet than the first floor of my house the entire set. Having said that she's 37 now not 27 so I'm sure things have changed some. Their style has changed but probably more from having a single guitar vs two than anything else. That and nobody wants to hear the same thing over or write the same thing over and over.

Ah, fair. I can't wait to check out the main songs so I can binge their albums. I totally get that about age. I hurt everywhere 😭 But yeah, it makes sense, and I agree. Can't keep playing the same old thing. Got to keep it fresh!

Somebody wants to write the same successful thing over and over. There're lots of artists who have that approach.
But definitely not Jinjer. In opposite they literally say that they are boring to make the same music that's why they are keep changing it.

    • @RustySabita
      @RustySabita  28 днів тому +4

@@glebivanov6323 I think its good. When someone or some people are successful at a specific thing, then they perhaps get scared to branch out and try new things in fear of alienation fans. That's all forms of entertainment, so I can see that. But if the world stayed like that, then we probably still be listening to music that still sounds like The Beatles.

@@RustySabita In metal at the moment things are worse in that it's all about genre labels and there are 30+ of them. All boxes to put artists in and if they stray out of the box gate keepers (which there seems to be an endless supply of) throw a fit. I've seen Jinjer pegged as metalcore which then prompts somebody to say "hey that's not metalcore" or even "that's not even metal".
I'm over here thinking "who gives a damn?". I listen to a band, if I like them I put them on a playlist and listen. If I don't, I don't. I remember when it was just "metal" and bands that tried to be as unique as they could. I'm glad Jinjer doesn't try to say what box they are in and doesn't adhere to one.

Hello. With this song they show us how they make a song. If you take the last part (singing), and you make the sound heavy with growl, you get the part before. And if you speed up, the part before again. It's like reverse ingeneering :) . And it's hard to believe but Tatiana go deeper now in the slow part than during this performance :) .
The band is special since the beginning but when Vlad joined, tey realy find their unique sound. They've said there will be lot heavier songs in the next album, but still melodic. I can't wait.
If you want to see from where they came, you can go to "destroy, live beastiarium". With their first drummer and a additionnal guitarist. The original vocalist of Jinjer (a guy), was not able to do that song live because there's a lot of instant switches. Is baby Tati able to do it?
There's no other bands exactly like Jinjer. But there's some with similarity, and very good front women able to do (near) what Tati do (they are not so good in the two side than Tati, but very good anyway :) ). You can check "Infected rain", or "Ankor".

Congrats on 500, wait, over 650 now.
An older song, from their first album, 2014's Cloud Factory. Recorded back when they were a 5 piece, they reworked it for a 4 piece after the last original member , rhythm guitarist Dmitriy Oksen, left in 2015 to pursue acting. He has acted in Jinjer music videos since, including "Disclosure" from the last album ,Wallflowers Not sure the exact date of the show, but current drummer , Vlad, is on stage here. He joined in 2016, and this video was posted in Aug 2017.

judging by the mix of her hair length, lack of neck tattoo, and Vlad's presence, i'd guess this would've been right around 2017, still in support of their KoE album (still the earliest one you've listened to). KoE , for me, seems a transitional album, where you still have their old style groove but also some of the new style experimentation (such as in _I Speak Astronomy_ ). but the switches have _always_ been a staple.
as for "bad" songs .... i'd say that's too strong a word, but they have a few fail to grab my attention (usually by staying _too_ long in just one "voice" ; or sometimes the band can meander _just a little_ too long without a proper groove ... none of it "bad" though).
i'd say anything from the _Inhale, Do Not Breathe_ LP could be called "unpolished", and the closest to "not quite the 'Jinjer sound'" : _Exposed as a Liar_ , _Until the End_ , _Scissors_ , _Destroy_ ... all good songs, just a bit raw, and a bit stylistically dated.

Then theres scardust, bandmaid, polyphia, clutch, mastadon, ayreon. Loads of potential love at first listen depending on your own preferences.
