I've had a number of Benchmade's. You pay a large premium for the name. Especially with their auto and otf product. Plenty of quality brands with comparable or superior product for a much lower price.
Ka bar dozier very similar and easy on the wallet
Buck has some of the best product and warranty 0ut there for an affordable price, if you like traditional knives of course
The shootout is worth having for the name and history
@Freedom1775 The legacy,not the history.
For sure, there's a lot of other great knives out there, but you see...I have a problem, like a sickness I can't help myself. I'm going to buy Weknife, Boker, Spyderco, Finch, Buck, etc... and Benchmade as well. But seriously, there are good reasons to buy Benchmade. They are good knives and have one of the best aftermarkets.
One solid reason not to buy Benchmade knives: They are way overpriced.
Yup
@@6point5grendel Only fools are happy when they are robbed.
@@6point5grendelin my country its 300 euro for a benchmade and 190 for the hogue deka
Same people cried about Craftsman Tools moving to China, while standing in Line at Harbor Freight… Stop bitching and just don’t buy it. If you never got it, you never will.
@@peterbaars1218
In the US they are $180. Seems weird to form a opinion about price when it's clearly inflated due to import export costs.
The knife that changed the knife industry, in a great way. Instead of pocket anchors you could get a full size knife sub 2oz. Any serious knife guy has a Bugout.
I don't own a bug out yet but I do have an Osborne and a mini grip. I love them both and I like the axis lock a lot, i think everyone Hateing are just people who can't afford these knives or dont wanna bite the bullet to get them. I get that though, had to save for a bit before i got both of them.😕😕
thats what i said till i had it in my hand returned it the same day 😂 beautiful blade and axis lock but with the flimsy ass scales it comes with aint worth the price tbh maybe for under $100 yeah but $170 hell nah i can go find a bad ass CRKT or kershaw with the same features
Fav knife I’ve ever owned
I'd be all about a 4" version.
It's an absolute must have !! ^^
I love mine!! Thank you!
As I was watching this, I had a realization: I've been carry my aluminum-scale Bugout for nearly a year and and the carbon-infused nylon one for a year before that. It is the most carry-able and reliable daily I have had. Yet, I'm still buying knives. I guess I made a distinction subconsciously between the knife I can count on every day and the fun or fancy one for the collection.
Mine arrived with the blade scraping on the liner on one side. How it ever left the factory like this I'll never understand. I disassembled and reassembled, and it had the same scraping action. No more Benchmades for me.
Return it instead of complaining... they will repair or replace for free as long as the problem was not caused by user error.
@Blue Eyes White Dragon absolutely, and in most cases, I would do exactly that without complaining. But from my experience with Benchmade over the years, they have (or at least have had) a genuine problem with quality control. As a consumer, that is just not cool with me, and I am going to speak up about it.
@@blueeyeswhitedragon9839it’s not excusable for the price of the knife. Benchmade has lost touch with the consumer base.
You have to know that if you decide to put different scales on your knife, you void your warranty. But the new scales look awesome!
I have the Bugout among 4 other fixed blades from Benchmade. I love each one of them. Benchmade is providing great quality at a higher price. Compared to my Fallkniven and DBK the Benchmade plays in the same league. I love them
I especially like the pocket clip on these. Add some titanium parts and slick them up some by polishing & lubing …you’ll have a pretty nice shiv .
The Bugout is an NPC knife

I have 2 Bugouts but for some reason my mini-Griptilians (basic versions) get more pocket time. I also prefer my Spyderco Chaparrals.
I saw someone put the sheepsfoot spydie hole mini grip blade onto a Bugout and it works
Interesting
I love Benchmade knives! The axis lock is the best locking mechanism in my opinion.
Benchmade knives are way overpriced
I handled a bugout one time and thought the same thing. An over 100 dollar knife atleast needs g10 handle.
I agree
@@brysontrotman5865yeah once you get it home and play with it you soon realize that you got screwed, I know I did. Too thin for my taste and axis lock isn't for me either. Sold the BM and got a spyderco para 3 LW in spy27 steel, now that lives in my pocket on the weekends.
@@chrisblair3081 axis locks have a limited wear life on them too. Lockback will last you until your deathbed (while also being the strongest knife lock type)
@@escapetherace1943 yeah I'm not impressed with the whole omega spring design, bic pens have higher quality springs lol. Also the ergo of it doesn't fit my hand well, I have to fidget it around to get on the release. Compression lock is by far my fav, just easy 1 hand drop close is nice at work.
Would love to see a top ten folding knives with aftermarket scales/handles support. 🤙
both omega springs broke on mine after 6 months. And i bought the GRAY one when it was 125 usd. Now its 162 for the basic one.
I love mine. Have the gray handle. Slick knife. Super sharp from the factory new. Almost dangerously sharp.
The reason why I don't own a single benchmade, is the ridiculous pricepoint for every model
Thank you! My exact sentiments.
@@dannyfrog Even aftermarket still usually isn't cheap
@@MacaqueStinx there's a new folder knife from Benchmade for $600!!!! You can buy an AR-15 for that price. Ridiculous.
I own 4 Benchmade knives, I've never had a desire for the bugout.
Get it trust me. I've been buying Benchmade knives since '97 and held out forever with all hype surrounding the Bugout but once finally bought one was super glad did and wished had sooner tbh. Probably own 18+ Benchmade knives currently
@DieselDabz710
I love their blades, I just beat the crap out of my knives. My only doubt would be the lighter handles on the bugout.
My Barrage has taken a beating for years and is none the less for the abuse.
Not one of those guys who doubt their quality, I just know what I do to a knife.
Both dieseldabz and frogking below have bought into marketing hype(buying whatever they made since '97), and frogking loves blade quality with flimsy handles(save costs), means poor resilience in nature. Don't be fooled, scammed by the artificial sounding bugout.
i bought a random s&w knife like 5 years ago for 30$ and it still works and isn’t insanely priced like these
I have a Redoubt and two Grips, one drop point and one sheepsfoot. The Redoubt I got for like $150, and the drop Grip I got on a close-out sale four like $75-$80, and the sheepsfoot I got for $126. I consider myself lucky to know a place that sells them for a good price.
My benchmades have been great, ive been carrying a 555 for over 2 yeara now
Might try one, one day
I used to think this was the small knife to carry until I tried the Spyderco Native 5. I would still recommend the Bugout to people if the prices didn’t just go up though.
Finally a review with actual man hands like myself. Sometimes it’s hard to gauge scale while a little guys doing the review
I have yet to see why a benchmade is better than say a good 50 to 70 dollar knife other than bragging rights.
got me today a CRKT Lck+ reverse tanto tip assisted opening for $30 cuts just as good and is lightweight
also a Gerber Scout just a bigger version and a little heavier then the bug out, i personally don’t care for an ultra lightweight knife i need something i can grip onto without feeling like im going to break it like the bug out if they had used micarta scales i wouldve keep my bug out
I was just at my local knife store and finally decided to see what all the hype was about. Not a benchmade fanboy, but I’ve always had great products from them. Very unimpressed, especially for the price. I wanted to buy it just to see if I could snap it in half at the pivot.
Really wish they weren’t $180. I’m at $190 on my Magnacut Deka with OG aluminum scales
Not a bugout fan, I’ll stick with the 940 Osborne and mini adamas
I almost bought one but they were out of stock so I got a 40$ kershaw and I am not disappointed
Over the axis lock. Make it a top plunge/button, and I'll buy it
And we have loads in stock we need to shift! 😂😉
I prefer the adamas in cruwear 9 times out of 10 its whats in my pocket
If you are thinking about it then just buy one. I have had 2 over a couple years and never had a single problem. Awesome knife overall 😎
Hogue
Deka that is..
Better action
Better lock bar.
Smoother.
Less money
And the handle isn't made of taffy.
2nd A supporter Not Anti like BM
Does anybody know an alternative that’s priced fairly that can still has the customization options
It’s a nice knife but it’s way overpriced. They should be about $90 for the blue scaled base model.
Would you go with grivory or g10
It's the ruger ten twenty two of folding knives
Own one.
Is it available now?
I have 2 minis, I honestly thing they are better, but ya, get some titanium scales, and I upgraded the lock to a mini griptilian lock, it feels more smooth and solid than my small sebenza… they r very similar actually.
I need all the bugout support to help out the Hogue Deka real quick
Deka is awesome knife and several amazing blade steels like 20CV, Magnacut etc..
@@dieseldabz7104 exactly! It's cheaper (slightly) and it has a trim of ostensibly "better chemistry" steel with similar USA made warranties
@@dieseldabz7104 I meant for scales and such! I’ve got one in magnacut and it’s awesome, just need more aftermarket for it. Rcbladeworks has some awesome scales but it’s hard to pay the same for scales as you did for the whole knife
@@Jefreeman13 Original Goat! I have their scales on my Magnacut Deka.
I'll pass, thanks. $180 for cheap, flimsy plastic scales and S30V is an unbelievably bad value.
I bought one about 2 years ago. Apart from maybe the first week I owned it, I've literally never carried it. It's just too small and light. I usually carry my Demko AD 20.5, or lately my Microtech RAM-LOK Stitch. Those are knives.
What's the retail price?
Bro how can i buy this knife in India pls share link.
I call it the knife that killed real knives. Because of this everyone followed the trend of making knock offs leaving real hard use knives being made harder and harder to find.
I cang stand the closing mech on these.
thats just an ozark trail with extra steps lol
Is it folding?
Ok ok I’ll take it
5 reasons they should bring back the 531. It’s cool. It’s cooler than the bugout. It’s the same as the bugout but cooler. It’s really cool. And for the final reason… I like it.
5 reasons you find all these things on an Amazon knife for 200$ less that isn’t boring
I love the design, but the price 😱. Much better offerings out there that are nicer and cheaper.
I put micarta scales on mine. And it is the most carried knife i've ever had
Expensive as hell.
This is clearly a very nice knife, I just like (and I don't know why really) heavier, more robust knives. To each their own I guess....this is a very well loved, very well made knife though... vive la différence.
It’s funny Because it’s a great knife but what kills it for me is that it’s light weight. Idk why but I like a hefty feeling on a knife. I got my eyes on that new hunt tagged out though
I would consider the Kizer Original Richlite instead bc it is very similar but without the omega springs. Not as good of an action though.
I can find a Magnecut Aluminum assisted flipper for less than $110 but can find a $200 piece of plastic with S30 steel. Does that seem off?
Not a lot of companies are willing to pick up magnacut. It's such a new steel too being less than a year old. Spiderco has a few good options for their salt line but they aren't flippers.
Deka deka deka is better
Deka is great but also different
It is!
Ill stick with my manix 2 in magnacut.
I do own one
Why do they ALWAYS put the pocket clip on the wrong end???
Even deep carry in NY is still illegal if the clips visible
Love the aftermarket Scales. Stock Ones feel 3D Printed, like you can snap it in half. *Edit* 0:26 Can you or someone else tell me if you’ve also bought brand new benchmade knifes and noticed their Clips look weathered?
Lost one. Bought a new one the next day;)
Eh, my two year old $17 Buck 112 slim does everything I need it too. Not an axis lock but debatable that a back lock is stronger/ more reliable. Just my 3 cents.
Should have bought one back when the price was reasonable.
Sure do attract a lot of trolls! Benchmade has always been about quality and peace of mind with the outstanding support! Price is fair for all that In my humble opinion.
Na bro. Overpriced pieces of flimsy crap.
250 aud
190 usd
No thanks i already own 4 $300 spyderco's
Kershaw heist!!!!
"5 reasons you SHOULD own a bug out" cool then are you going to buy me one then, I'm broke.
I'll stick with my Griptilian 551, thanks.
Can’t wait to pick one up! Just gotta pay down some student loan debt first 😂
Why did they make the bugout their flagship 🤭 It's such a "safe space" blade.
I want to love you Benchmade, inspire of all your bullshit. I really do.
I'm really close to just walking away. I'm really not attracted to another, but it's the old you that I fell in love with.
You've Changed.
i got the mini presidio 2 . lower price and overall better construction
I’d only get if it was S35n and full tang
I hate flip blades, there not practical when it comes to life or death survival, good for light survival in a camp site but in a end world or war type situation it wouldn’t last.
Jk this was a joke lol, but I still prefer fixed full tang survival knifes
All of which you can have with a spyderco manix
Exactly. I have one in magnacut.
Griptilian > Bugout
I should but only when someone gifts it to me or pays me to buy this😂 otherwise I can’t own it Eggs are still expensive so is everything else 😂
I almost broke one peeling a grapefruit! They are way too flimsy! Cheers
Never gonna pay that amount of money. The boutique buyers can do it instead.
Someone show me step by step how to flick open a knife like this
Let’s be honest I love benchmade and god knows I’ve spent way too much money but they’ve lost their mind carbon fiber and s30v 300$ it’s ridiculous they lost their mind you can buy the max ace black mirror for half the price titanium inlay work and m390 the crossbar lock patent expired and I see no reason to buy a benchmade knife ever again
Benchmade is really overpriced for the materials. But if you can get 1 on sale around $100 then its a great knife.
Expensive as hell
Reasons why you shouldn’t own a bugout.
1. Sub par heat treatment
2. Omega springs may break
3. Ludicrous pricing.
1 reason not to.. the cost hundreds of knives out there for half the cost for the same performance
The true CEO knife, because you need to be paid a CEO's salary to EDC it.
Bench made is just a name now… there are smith n Wesson knifes out there with the same specs, hell there’s knives out there at lower prices with better specs
So it's a $200-$300 kabar dozier with features and materials that are very common in most modern Pocket knives that are half the price. What a bargain!
Except if you change the handles, it voids the warranty.
Buy a civvi elementum instead. I have the regular and mini bugout, and they are awful. Centering was off after minimal use, not fidget friendly at all because the axis lock WILL break, and the price of the damn things are insane! My button lock elementum and original elementum wins over these things in terms of build quality. Sure the steel might not be the best on the base models, but they do sell and upgraded steel variant for a little up charge (worth it)
The blade steel and warranty makes the price justifiable to me. If you Wana budget knife buy it. Don't complain about blade wobble, rust, or lock stick. I can definitely tell the difference between my folders and better brands. I do like budget knives as beaters though. Lol
I love my DHGate Benchamde bugout. For 20 bucks, I got a razor sharp knife and IDC if I ruin it😂
Get what pay for..$20 cheap Chinese knife that won't hold edge and probably break in 1/2 if actually put to hard work which is dangerous. Rather buy 1 $100 knife then 5 $20 knives but that's just me..
@@dieseldabz7104 except a Bugout is $180.
