So good to see Johnny performing this. A great favourite of mine back in the day when he first came on the scene. However, I never recall seeing him on TV back then and this makes my first viewing of him performing in July 2016. A long wait, but well worth it.
My brother bought that album and I became a fan listening to him play that album. I bought Johnny Rivers Greatest Hits other albums for years. My favorite is Realization. I saw him in concert with my girlfriend and she told me she had never seen me so excited at a concert. I bought his anthology album and talked to him while he signed it. I have introduced his music to my Godchildren, and the like it too.
Saw him on the Red Skelton Show (can you even believe that?) in about '63. I guess it's the show Dick asked about. He did this and Secret Agent Man and Mountain of Love friggin' LIVE on stage!
MrBlueroads wrote that Johnny was cashing in on Chuck :. My reply to this is: Johnny Rivers wouldnt be the first, nor the only one who made hits from Chuck's songs. Even the Beatles and the Rolling Stones did it.Chuck himself wasnt beyond covering other people's songs either....In fact "Maybelline" was actually an adaptation of another song called "Ida Red",by Bob Wills, which was a country fiddle tune. Berry changed the name of the song to "Maybelline" and released it on May 21, 1955. He worked with Johnnie Johnson on the piano, Jerome Green (from Bo Diddley's band) on the maracas, Jasper Thomas on the drums and Willie Dixon on the bass for the recording.

How is this guy not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? Ridiculously overlooked.
Because of todays the hall of fame has nothing to do with Rock and Roll - see the members or inducties.
Will Hackett
How true!
Hold on now he was inducted in to the Blues Hall of Fame and yes Mr Hackett your statement is spot on.
Is he still not a member of rock ’n’ roll Hall of Fame? Then it’s a shame!
Will Hackett :There is no Rock and Roll Hall without Johnny Rivers!
And again, not even a mention of the man that wrote the song - the truly great Chuck Berry.
Johnny Rivers ROCKS!!
Still love listening to this man what a wonderful performer
Great stuff from an under appreciated pro! Thanks for posting.

Johnny Rivers: One of the most natural and unassuming stars ever on stage!
So so true and exuding the joy of singing and playing. He's probably the few that do justice to the cover.
This guy should be in TRRHOF
Wow great cover. Johnny's voice is magical.
Probably the only Artist who could do justice to any song. he sort of makes them better, the other artist would be Linda Ronstandt two great artist
Love his sound. He give a personal touch to every song.
👌Johnny did covers in his own style - _often better than the original !_ 🎼🎶
All of those nice clean cut American teenagers!
If they only knew what was just down the road.

This IS....entertainment - all smarts, heart & soul! Covering Chuck Berry superlatively... ain't easy...
O cara tinha apenas 21 anos (ia fazer 22 em novembro) e já tinha 7 anos de carreira, veterano!. É pra poucos, né...
bought his lp record at Sam the Record Man, Toronto, Canada, in 1966 or 67, for $2,96
55 years later..Johnny is still great and going strong, keeps in great shape,an all around nice guy,and still sounds original !
I finally got to see him in PHX......sounded exactly the same as ever!
I was thrilled! I loved him forever!

I think Johnny Rivers did very well at a time with all the competition he had. I like a lot of his songs.
Great music! Great artist! Great interview! "Maybelline" peaked at #6 here in Sweden in the fall of 1964. THANKS SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING!
When I was little I wanted to be a dancer at the club where he played. I still can't get enough of his songs.

There will never be another Johnny Rivers.l had his best hits years ago. He’s the best...

$400 f0r a gibson, that guitar is worth thousands now. fab performance by Johnny, the drum rhythm got it.
DAVY M Probably worth a lot more !! I hope he still has it!
Same guitar Eric used with Cream sometimes, he sold his at auction for around $800,000.
Johnny is one of greatest performers from the 60s
I put many quarters in the jute box to listen to Johnnies songs. Outstanding talent.
