THANK YOU for this tutorial! i wish i had found this before i spent like six hours on colouring the lineart with the weirdest technique though... well at least from now on i can save some time!
This is a stellar piece of advice! I always hated redrawing my line work, only for it to get messed up. Thank you so much for sharing this trick!!!!! You're such a talented catoonist and have inspired me to one day come up with a UA-cam channel for my own character(s)!
what I do for the colouring is I use a coloured fill bucket on the line work layer and make sure the colour doesn't go into my characters and if it does then I make sure the lines are all connected. Next I take white and use the fill bucket. (I suggest that you take away the coloured layer after you check the lines). Take a new layer and you see you can colour only inside the lines. I really hope this helped you (if you wanted to know) :).
I just discovered your channel last night and I have to say, you are awesome. I've only watched a few of your videos so far but my god, they are so helpful and the way you describe stuff its just so easy to understand. I'm definitely gonna be using Sketchbook pro more often now. THANKS MAN.
I found your channel for some months ago, and by watching your tutorials my drawing skills has improved so soo much! I love your videos, and Cherry is so sweet:)
I had no idea you could do that. I thought that the transparency lock was useless thinking that it didn't change the art. But now, this solved my issue of painting the line-art. Thank you!
this is brilliant, and so simple, I cant believe I noticed the lock transparency key before but it didn't click in my brain that it could be used for this!
A years that I use Sketchbook Pro and draw my line arts color by color... You just open a new door for me and like that, less time on my color selection for my line arts... Thanks!
I accidentally found this feature existed while playing around with the app. I did not know how I did it and for all my other pieces I colored/shaded them using my own tedious method. I finally decided to look for a how to vid. And look! It’s right there- the best time saver ever.
Thank you so much! I've been looking for a video on this but every time I searched "How to color lineart" it was always about coloring inside the lineart already created. Thank you!
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!! When I've drawn coloured linearr I've always done it manually from SCRATCH, haha! This makes it a ton easier! So thank you, you're a lifesaver! Or should I say artsaver?? Meh, same same but different.
So how do you color your line art with your line art staying? I do my line art and then i open another layer and put color on it but the color is on top of the line art. Can someone help i cant colorrrrr lol
Just wondering, is it better to paint every thing on different layers by hand? Is there a reason you dont use the fill in tool? Im just trying to get used to using sketchbook with my new cintiq 22hd. Thanks!
A real selection tool that i can also use to color in. I need a Color blend mode, grouping layers, warp tool. and quite a few more that i cant think of lol
Throwing this one out there and hoping I get a yes but it is possible to select the linework you've done and change it to another tool? So for example I did my line drawing with the paintbrush and want to change it to the chisel pen. I want to change it to something thicker with a substantial line but I can't see a way of doing it. I tried filling in the background but even with all the lines connected and it locked it just flooded the whole screen orange! lol
Greetings from Brazil! Damn seeing this i think about the thousand hours that i have spended redoing my lineart in another color or using select tool, thank u man u are a very good man =D
Fast forward to 2020. I have a few questions since your technique above, is not working for me. Which version of Sketchbook pro is this? In my background I can only have one colour (a solid background colour with lighting variation) however, you have the bunny coloured in (without the line, in your background above)??? I move layers around and lock each one individually to see if i'm doing something wrong, but the above video is not doing the trick to colour in the lines. Any advice please.
Hi I'm new to sketchbook pro. I'm attempting to colour artwork that I have manually scanned in....My question is how do you separate your line art away from the white background (paper) into it's own layer in sketchbook pro which can then be painted? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I might be in a bit of trouble, I tried doing the exact same thing but the color in the different layer kept its absence. Any solutions? Edit: So, I've been doing it wrong and I'm much happier with my drawings when it looks more vibrant(for me). This video is really helpful and I'm so happy to learn from this video.
So basically for me if I press that lock, I cant color it inside the lines unless its already colored. So either way I still have to do a whole bunch of erasing of my color not being in the line and stuff
ok but how do you get the base color, paint bucket is hard to use cause i suck at ending lines so can you make a video for that if you dont already have one
Great tutorial. When I attempt to do this I always end up with a very thin line of white/grey pixels around the colored line art. I then have to color all the borders by hand. Why does that happen?
You did have both layers locked right?? will it kinda of worked. i locked my line art and the layer under it was my color but it went outside the lines.
Thanks! :D you are super awesome. And You should make the bunny blue because that the accent color u use for cherry and u use pink on everything else. It'll be a nice change :)
I know this is super old but i recently started getting into digital art and I know the basics but like I drew something then saved it as a jpg but i decided to add something else to it now and i dont have the original anymore. Whenever I try to paint over the jpg with white, the colour wont show up its super light it just gives it like a shadow instead of white..cos I was trying to add white to the hair to give it a shiny effect. I tried moving the layers up and down and even tried multiply but nothing works. What am I doing wrong? how can I paint over a jpg or do I have to do the lineart again?
But if I lock a layer I can only draw on that layer. What if I want different layers for shading? All while locking each one? A method I found is copying the locked layer and add what you want to it, but the problem is that each new layer you create contains not just the shading, but everything you previously drew, which makes it difficult to go back and modify something 🥲
What if I want to paint a specific layer only? For example, i have a desk that has drawers. I want to make a broad stroke over everything BUT the drawers. I've tried doing it, by locking layers, and nothing seems to work.
P.S, layer lock, doesn't work. I made my drawing in layers, for example, legs of the table are one layer, the drawers are another layer, the desk frame is another layer. I lock the layers, and it still draws over everything. Kind of annoying. Typical Autodesk program. Might as well get lazy nazumie and use illustrator.
Please I need help here. When I paint a light blue color, when I take my brush over it again, the opacity increases, any help on how I can turn that function off
AFTER SIX YEARS OF USING SKETCHBOOK I FINALLY KNOW WHAT THAT WAS FOR AND I FINALLY KNOW HOW TO MAKE MY LINE ART LOOK COOOL!
Thanks dude. These super short videos on one trick are immensely helpful.
THANK YOU for this tutorial! i wish i had found this before i spent like six hours on colouring the lineart with the weirdest technique though... well at least from now on i can save some time!

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!! When I've drawn coloured linearr I've always done it manually from SCRATCH, haha! This makes it a ton easier! So thank you, you're a lifesaver! Or should I say artsaver?? Meh, same same but different.

Omg this helped me solve a problem that I've had for such a long time!!! Thank you
I've been using sketchbook for years and I only discovered this now 🤦♀️ Thank you so much!
My question is there a way to autofill like paint bucket to make base coloring easier?
Awesome. I really hope they put this on sketchbook mobile cause i am definitely using it away from home
Blue sounds cool! I like that! Break down the contrast in the pictures :)
It will compliment Cherry's jade colored eyes too :)
Thanks for the tip ;)
I'm lowkey embarrassed I never thought to do this before- thank you so much
So how do you color your line art with your line art staying? I do my line art and then i open another layer and put color on it but the color is on top of the line art. Can someone help i cant colorrrrr lol

Thank you so much for this video, this is the most helpful tutorial I've seen for coloring on Sketchbook Pro.
I did the same thing but it’s only colouring the edges of the line art??
hi! so did u ever figure it out?
i have the same problem
@@_melala press harder or the fill tool will not work.
check and see if your brush is set to multiply! :)
Did anyone figure it out?
So locking the transparency in sketchbook pro is like clipping masks in paint tool sai or Photoshop?
Thank you so much for this video!Makes my drawing experience much easier!
Awesome tip on the color selection.
Just wondering, is it better to paint every thing on different layers by hand? Is there a reason you dont use the fill in tool? Im just trying to get used to using sketchbook with my new cintiq 22hd. Thanks!

That was super amazing!! :), I've been wondering how you did that for a while
Great tutorial. When I attempt to do this I always end up with a very thin line of white/grey pixels around the colored line art. I then have to color all the borders by hand. Why does that happen?
