Such an underrated Dire Straits song. Thanks Scott for the recommendation, and to Andrei and Dominika for another great reaction. This one definitely transports you to New Orleans, and demonstrates once again just how versatile Mark Knopfler is in his guitar playing. Such a classic.
Mark's not afraid of silence. He uses it as a canvas to contrast those percussive scratches and those soaring guitar notes that build such tension. Of course his vocals and the story are so compelling it becomes absolutely riveting.
I want espress my sincere condolences to Jack Sonni s family, Jack has died yesterday , suddnley, he was great guitarist and great and genuine man, contributed to the realize Brothers in arms for Dire Straits and Brothers in arms world tour❤ Much love Jack❤
I truly enjoy your genuine reactions. This song is a for some strange reason very under-appreciated gem of DS. Can't wait you guys to dig in some Mr K's solo material or film scores. But to continue with DS....Fade To Black (album version) and several times mentioned You and Your Friend (live) first.
That was a like first and watch after. This intro makes it one my favourite Dire Straits songs, but still the rest is also very beautiful. Vocals, music everything, but Mark's guitar is a constant highlight and then comes the saxophone. Special song. Generally I thing this album is of their top.
I love it when a band utilizes both headphones. Not all bands will go back and forth from left to right. Pretty awsome! Its very sultry! You are right, picture being in a corner in a Smokey bar. Excellent song and reaction. Have a great day and God Bless!🐢
Thank you for this reaction. PONO is really underrated song, but it shines in Mark's catalogue. Please react to Ride Across the River - Live in Sydney '86. It offers another sight on abilities of Dire Straits.
Dire Straits and Mark K never disappoint ! I always think that this is an"after midnight" song, one you listen to with a glass of Scotch and ice in your hand. You listen to this with your hips as well as your ears.
See and hear one 's of the live - Versions of " Planet of New Orleans " . Here of YT . Mark gives Bonus - Accords in the Live - Version (1991- First Part of the OES- Tour) Unfortunately he didn't play it when I attended a concert in Nuremberg in July 1992
Always been one of my favourites since I first heard it - an underrated song definitely. I'm sure you'd both enjoy Darling Pretty and What It Is from his solo work too.
This is the first time hearing this song. I can't think of anyone better than the two of you to experience it with. Great reaction as usual. ❤😊 I would love to see this one live.
Great reaction 👍🏻 Definitely one of my favourite DS songs, along with You and your friend. Yes DS is great for in the car!! My first experience with them was in a car. I was 12 maybe 13 years old. A drop was organized at the campsite during the summer holidays. We, my brothers and I, were blindfolded and get into someone's car. On the way, to the place where we were going to be dropped, there was music on in the car. And because we couldn't see anything, we listened to it. I didn't know what music it was, but I was captivated by it. It wasn't until much later that I found out it was DS's Brothers in Arms album. Next suggestion would be 'This Strange Engine' by Marillion. Another captivating piece of music with a 1 🎷and 2 🎸 solos and the vocals at the end are awesome! Just the studio version 🙏
You should do a review of the last song on the last Dire Straits song. It’s called How Long? A beautifully song, simple. In many ways the perfect song to end Dire Straits.
New Orleans with other life upon it , and every thing that shakin in between, if should ever land upon it you better know whats on it , You think its a good song song this one ? Wait for Iron Hand , It never Rains , Lions or Love over Gold . and You and your friend . Great reaction as always !!!
20 years later, Mark recorded his Privateering Album. It was a double album with many really good songs on it. Please do yourselves a favor and give them a listen. The album has a few different music styles and instruments in it Seattle is another dreamy city song on it featuring Ruth Moody, who went on touur with him singing on some of them.
The first half of this album is quite good and even inventively new directions in DS music, but the last five songs are just Knopfler phoning it in. The B-side singles "Kingdom Come" and "Millionaire Blues" are superb tracks which would have been better included on the album. Three album tracks should have been put to CD singles instead: "Ticket to Heaven", "My Parties", and "How Long".
If you already listened to all Dire Straits songs there is still a lot of Marks solo albums you could listen to, he wrote so many great songs in his solo career as well. ua-cam.com/video/SC2_CMO4oD8/v-deo.html
I PERSONALLY THINK THAT EVERYTHING HE DOES IS BRILLIANT. THAT'S INCLUDING THE BAND AS WELL. BUT SAYING THAT ITS PERSONAL CHOICE REALLY. PLEASE PLAY (RIDE ACROSS THE RIVER) BY (DIRE STRAITS) THANK YOU
You and your friend❤❤❤and iron hand is cool
Live version....!!!!❤❤❤

Thanks Mate. It’s my favorite and I like all their stuff. Thanks for the note!
The American dream in all its glory.

The live version is even better
I always thought this one sounded almost like an orchestral piece. Probably my favorite DS song of all time.

@@Azimuasdiat indeed my friend! 😆

Ticket to heaven is another beautiful song!!

My favourite Dire Straits song! Mark is knocking it out of the park here with his lazy,-style and passionate playing.
This song is a highlight from my favourite Dire Straits album. All the songs are fantastic
I want espress my sincere condolences to Jack Sonni s family, Jack has died yesterday , suddnley, he was great guitarist and great and genuine man, contributed to the realize Brothers in arms for Dire Straits and Brothers in arms world tour❤

Live of this song is something else. There is some version out there from 1992, not an official recording.
great reaction :D
A wonderful song, Mark's guitar is so atmospheric and beautiful.

another underappreciated DS jem- thanks for digging in, guys!

I’m liking that take on it!
@@scottnorvell2955 Thanks Scott,appreciate your comment.
WOW! A MK classic that is not that well known. One of my favorites of many by this song smith!
Simply love this band, I have whole my life. Such a unique sound and feel.
Thanks for the reactions and because thanks to these actions the music of Dire Straits is still alive and spreading!
Only mark could explain in a song that there is no other place on earth quite like New Orleans.
Totaly correct emotions
That's always the sign of a great band when your favorite song from them is the last one you've heard.
See and hear one 's of the live - Versions of " Planet of New Orleans " . Here of YT .

YOU MUST LISTEN TO (RIDE ACROSS THE RIVER) "DIRE STRAITS"
Please, please, please try 'Telegraph Road' from the Love Over Gold album. 😮
Hello there, we have done the 'Telegraph Road' reaction. Here's the link ua-cam.com/video/5w19TcC8XS4/v-deo.htmlsi=oK4geCXgyyvI1IXb
Many thanks ☺️
Driving alone at nighttime in winter miles away of any habitation, by the moonlight - that's one of my more profound experiences with this song.
I recommend You and your friend but live from their album on the night

I get som Chris Rea vibes from this song. Thank you!

Based on the Undine rising from the Waters leyend...! ❤
Cette chanson et ce solo sont pour moi très inspiré de Jeff Beck....Jeff Beck le ou l'un des plus grands guitaristes. Un génie.
Dominika you need to go and lay down in a darken room lol
I PERSONALLY THINK THAT EVERYTHING HE DOES IS BRILLIANT. THAT'S INCLUDING THE BAND AS WELL. BUT SAYING THAT ITS PERSONAL CHOICE REALLY. PLEASE PLAY (RIDE ACROSS THE RIVER) BY (DIRE STRAITS) THANK YOU
If you say it like the natives of New Orleans, it is 'nuawlins'. But probably not the way Dire Straits says it.
M.K the best ever

Sorry but I must say English bands are the tops
