      Chinese dean would be just as good as a Korean or USA Dean, just throw a FR 1000 or original, and the super distortion and a dimebucker and you’d be good

    I happened to snatch up a 2006 Chinese model for $80 (yup, eighty) about 6 years ago. The headstock had busted and been professionally repaired and there is some cosmetic issues, but for the small amount I paid I don’t really care.

    • @EricMorettin
      @EricMorettin  Рік тому

      @@MaSt3rDeBaTeR yup the grey wire is the original. I believe manufacturing changed through the years, and the newer ones (USA variant) that were found on the DFH's before switching to the Dimebucker have larger rail magnets and have more wires for split coil/phase configurations. Larger rail sizes affect the tone as well.

    • @CS-ru4xd
      @CS-ru4xd 10 місяців тому +2

      @@MaSt3rDeBaTeR Actually the Bill Lawrence in this Chinese example is the l500 xl built by Becky Lawrence at Wilde pickups and can be identified by the slightly wider rails and the absence of the black epoxy filler around the bobbins (also if you look at the under side there should be a sticker with Bill's signature, an American flag sticker and multiple loose multi-colored wires) and can still be ordered by her and her daughter to this day. I've ordered (4) in the last two months. Some models can be found with the "Bill Lawrence USA" pickups and can be identified by the white lettering on the bobbins and look more like the original BL pickups but are considered to be inferior to the Originals. And then you have the ones built by the man himself as found in the older USA models like the one in this video. I have examples of all three versions and oddly I find the ones built by Becky to be slightly hotter but in a good way. Hope this helps.

    Dean was a great company when Elliot Rubinson was alive. That man knew what it took to run a great business, and he was also a killer bass player from what Michael Angelo Batio and some of the other old school Dean artists have said. His son Evan destroyed everything he worked so hard to build. It's Evan's fault why the Dime Estate left Dean, and every other artist that has left the last few years. As far as quality goes though, they had and still have one of the best USA Custom Shops in the game.

      Agreed, the company was stellar under Dean and Elliot respectively. It's too bad what's happened to it recently. I've talked to lots of former high-level Dean artists and they all left at the same time for the same reason - which we all know. Their USA builds are fantastic and I would still buy anything that was built under Elliot or Dean's ownership.

      Honestly I have mixed reviews from the ones I've played, and more so negative at the moment. Maybe the examples I tried were lemons. I'd like to get some more on the channel to try and compare.

      @@EricMorettin ah shoot that stinks. Mind you it’s a 79 ML, not sure if the qc is different for one or the other. The luthier I took mine to for a set up said it was “fine.” Since then I’ve upgraded/changed everything except the tuners and nut. I’ve had fun with it for the year or so I’ve had it.
      Also! What’s the thickness of the USA body? When I switched out the Floyd Rose Special to a German made one I swapped out the stock 37mm tone block to 32mm fat brass block, but even after that, the springs and block were rubbing on the back plate. Come to find out the stock one was 27mm.

      I've got one from the last year they were made. It has the pau Ferro fretboard. It's an awesome guitar. Very well made. The dimebucker and dimetime pickups are great. The Floyd special is very good too. People like to bitch about them but they're good. Also they're the same dimension as the original, so you can upgrade them with original parts. I recommend them.

    First of all the 2005 USA wouldn’t be available and if you could it’s highly collectible and worth 10K+. I own #44 and it’s only has a couple of chords ever played on it.

      Because the pickups in the Chinese model are built (and are still being built) by Bill Lawrence's wife and daughter at Wilde pickups and are slightly hotter than the Originals...I have (4) of them and I actually prefer them slightly over the Originals. Just my opinion.
