I am a 64 year old and I don’t eat meat. I miss it every day but I feel better and my blood work reflects it. So I don’t mind spending more. You do have to watch your intake of Beyond Meat type products. They are heavily processed so it can counteract some of the non-meat benefits. Best to have a nutritionist guide you through based on your personal makeup etc. Supplements are an additional cost to ensure your body is getting properly nourished from lack of meat. I've never had veggie burgers. But I've tried the soy burgers. I am not a fan. I buy a box of thin beef patties for $8 at Dollar General. It usually lasts a few months. I like the thin patties because they take less time to cook. Happy Labor day!

My grocery had 80/20 ground beef on sale for $ 1.99 a lb this weekend. Stocked up to make burgers, sloppy joes, meatballs and taco's. Beyond burgers are gross just like turkey burgers.

That is VERY cool! I’ve thought about trying that. That is very encouraging that Jim usually doesn’t like veggie burgers but he has a good opinion of this brand. Food is a great idea to present to us. It’s important to learn especially being retired now. Before I would think 400$/ month was a lot for just myself, but after watching your video I realized it sounded close to average. I still work on cutting costs, but I see I was more realistic than I thought. If I was perfect, I would go vegetarian with some fish or chicken. I’m not perfect but I keep trying to scale down food to its most nutritional. I have a sweet tooth also. My thing is cookies now and then. Hi Joan, I would never eat the Boca, Impossible or Morning Star veggie burgers again, but the beyond burgers really did taste like real burgers. Jim and I were shocked. The problem is, they are very, very high in saturated fats, so just because of that, I wouldn’t eat them again either. 🙁
I went vegan for health reasons for awhile. Being vegan is expensive. In large part it’s due to the fact there are so few vegans/vegetarians to buy their products, so they need to charge more to stay in business. My favorite Beyond product is Beyond sausages. They’re awesome! One day I tricked a meat eater with them. They believed it was meat! I’m back to eating meat again, but I’ll probably go back to vegan again soon. Males in my family die young due to heart issues. I’ve outlived most of them already.
That’s a good point about the smaller number of people eating these products rhv. I really like the taste of the beyond burger burgers, but they have 35% saturated fat, which did not seem healthy at all. I can’t remember, but it’s not about the same as real meat? 🤪

Steve, what was the verdict???? Were they worth it???? The Beyond Burger $15.78 / 8 = 1.97 per burger which is good costwise. But the taste how do you rate it? In the 80's I made my own Veggie Burger from scratch. It was delicious but took a long time to assemble. I brought them to a Bar-b-cue and even the meat eaters enjoyed them. I've tried veggie burgers from stores over the years and haven't found one I liked so I stopped trying them which is why I want to hear the verdict on the Beyond Burger. Thanks!
Hi ER, you must have stopped watching a video before you got to that part. I mentioned that everyone loved them. We all thought they tasted exactly like real burgers. I wouldn’t eat them again though. The problem is that they were very, very high and saturated fats. Maybe even higher than real meat. They use coconut a while and lots of different oils that I think increase the saturated fat. So, they tasted great, almost exactly like real meat, but the ingredients were not so great as far as I’m concerned. 🙁🙃

This is why I stopped eating veggie burgers decades ago. But if you make them yourself they can be great but the key is the ingredients and keeping them in burger form. Now I have to try to recreate the burger I made 40 years ago!
Usually those store bought veggie burgers aren't that healthy because they are full of saturated fat (but at least no cholesterol). I prefer to make my own veggie burgers, there are a lot of recipes online. I basically use lentils, black beans, peppers, dehydrated onions, worcestershire sauce, ketchup, brown rice and oats and flax seed in mine. I like them a lot better than the ones that try to mimic juicy meat.

Aldi has fresh ground beef not frozen. That’s pretty good price on it. we buy it for our dogs we dehydrated so that way they have their jerky snacks at night. Before they go to bed.
