      Some musicians used weirdness as a gimmick. Some of the true brilliants are so far ahead of us, that we just didn't understand their style. Hendrix, G.Clinton, T.Monk, Jacco P, Little Richard, Prince, and I can go on with the elites that took us to another level.

      @@cusswordsayer3558 Unfortunately I don’t play, but I’ve been a very serious listener and lover of the bass since the early 70’s. I got into the love of the instrument through the Jazz Rock “Fusion” era and R&B/Funk years. I love the up right bass as well as the electric. I’ve listened and studied the sound of the major and minor good player. Without sounding like a “Jazz snob” , but just from a factual position the Jazz guys from a theory, technical and musical understanding level are far superior players especially as improvisers. Therefore I tend to give more credit to those serious types of players. They know chords, harmonics and scales etc as well arranging. Most of the top players such as Stanley Clarke, Jaco and Charles Mingus etc. played piano. Therefore harmonically they know the interrelationship of notes in order to produce great bass playing. Marcus Miller recently said a lot of guys are playing many notes, but it’s not connected to anything, because a lot guys don’t have the understanding of the notes.

      That just means that they are grooving real hard and super tight and you're missing nuances. With most musicians, if you slow down their grooves they would sound sloppier.

      @@arthurfranklin9315 Disagree, playing faster doesn't mean it will groove harder. Playing superfast funk is for showmanship. Real groove should be danceable.

    • @arthurfranklin9315
      @arthurfranklin9315 5 років тому +80

      @@waawaaweewaa2045 I don't think you understand what I mean. There IS such thing as fast funk, but if it's not done well, it would sound like trash when broken down. If it feels groovier when slowed down, that just shows that these guys are hearing REAL FAST and they are REAL TIGHT. Music is expression, and if these guys are feeling it, why should we nitpick over whether it's a dance tempo?

    OHHHH MYYYY DAYYYYYMMMMNNNN!!!. My day had gotten off to a bad start. My money was a little funny. My Camaro tire had picked up a nail. Said it couldn't be simply repaired cause I have "ride flat" tires. and they can't only be replaced (for $500) not repaired but the shock of thinking I would only be spending $30 instead of $500 was a shock...... Was about to chart out a song for a client of mine when this video showed up in my "Suggested for you" column. Totally changed my outlook on life. This right here is me, for sure, since I was a baby. Sounds a lot like Prince. But Damn, that's my sh&& right there. Thanks for posting

    C,G,C,D,F,G,Eb,Bb,F,Bb,A,F,Eb. This is an extremely clever lick here as if u dont slow it down to listen it sounds way different. Slow it down to .25 and listen instead.
