I simply adore you and your Mum. From my experience using this foundation at age 71, I find it perfecting on my skin. However, I do have dry skin. After my skincare routine, moisturizer and then sunscreen (I wait 20 minutes before applying the rest of my products). I do use a primer before applying the foundation. After dotting/swiping it on my face with my clean fingertips I use a brush to dab/stipple it into my skin, followed by a dry soft sponge to smooth out any brush strokes. At this point the foundation looks “perfect” on my skin. It looks like skin...the younger skin of years gone by. I routinely receive complements on how lovely my skin looks, even into the evening hours. I never have to set it and it continues to look velvety but like young smooth, poreless skin until I remove it at night. Again, I realize that your mum has combination skin and she has a tendency to touch her face throughout the day. I rarely comment on any videos but wanted to speak up about the positive outcomes I continue use to have when I wear this foundation. Thanks for listening.
I❤ur comment I'm 66, not 2 far from ur age,While I was on my way to purchase this foundation already because of Angie...YOU MY DEAR sealed the deal...so excited Thank you, stay safe and keep enjoying a good life 💖
I just bought this foundation. I was told you have to shake it well so maybe that's why you were getting an oily look? I used a sponge and used it sparingly. Worked well on my 65 year old skin....covered imperfections, no polka dot pores...definitely knocking my Giorgio Armani off the pedestal.
Add me to the list! Both the Armani and the L’Essentiale were on my favs list until this came along. I apply a pump with my fingers and get nice medium coverage. Natural finish on my mature skin and doesn’t dry my skin or look caked.
Oh... hmm. After the vid, it was a no for me. Now I don't know if I should try it, lol. You're saying it does not have the initial application shiny/oily finish that has to set? How does it wear after 8 hours?
I got it on Monday too as soon as it was out, after trying it a few ways I find that mixing one pump of this with half a pump of double wear gives the best of both worlds, makes it slightly less luminous and sets down a bit quicker but it lightens up the double wear so perfect for my mid-40’s skin 😀

This foundation looks absolutely gorgeous on you, Gemma. I am extremely pale, so I have had a lot of trouble finding my shade with Estee Lauder foundations. I was surprised to see that you were wearing the lightest shade!

It’s just such a joy to watch you lovely ladies do what you do, even when the product you’re testing isn’t anything that would work for me in the slightest, mostly thanks to the fragrance and my very temperamental dry skin. I mean, there are people in my life I can’t spend more than 15 minutes at a time with, bless them, but I’m super happy to spend almost 25 with you two, so as always, much love and many thanks. (PS, that lip colo(u)r on your mum is STUNNING. Definitely tracking that one down to add to my collection.)
I just got this one and I LOVE it! And honestly, I don't love any other foundation, except CYO lifeproof, or maybe Loreal freshwear.... That's about it. I still use a heavy moisturizer underneath this, because my skin is ULTRA dry. I use the Charlotte Tilbury Magic cream under every single foundation.
Hi Rebecca, it seems we love the same two foundations. May I ask, on an average day, how many hours you wear this foundation for. I need a foundation to last from 6AM until 9PM...thank you in advance xx
I bought this foundation the first time I used too much and it was awful... the next time I used it much more sparingly and it was beautiful . I’m 50 and have very oily skin and it really stays nice on my skin.
I like your distinction between oily and dewy. I like a satiny finish, personally. I probably won’t be purchasing this product, but I really appreciate your review, as always! Great job! Blessings, Patti.
Oh my gosh you two are such a dynamic duo!!! Multigenerational POV’s is awesome and gives me a great sense of how makeup will behave. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have a daughter about your age and I am about your mum’s age so I so adore watching both of you and love seeing and hearing how the foundation goes on, wears and feels to each of you. Love the reviews! You and your mum are so beautiful and I always look forward to seeing your vids
I've been using this for about 2 weeks and love it. I do have to make sure I've moisturized well. I'm in my 50's and this has been the best so far. I cannot do matte but want the wear.
I’m 55 with dry textured skin and absolutely love this foundation. It’s not as shiny on me but I have very dry skin and it seems to drink this product in a bit. I do powder the cheek/ pore area, but that’s all I need. It lasts all day and is a perfect match for my cool toned skin. I’m so excited!
OMG. I absolutely love this foundation. I don't find it oily and I don't set it with powder but everyone's skin is different. I have to say that I know your mother didn't love the foundation but she looked absolutely gorgeous!
I was told by the lady at the EL counter it is to be applied with your fingers. It works better with the warmth of your hands. Also to shake it really well!!! Just a hint given to me. I love this foundation!!! I have very dry skin, and I do not use a thick moisturizer under it. Also, a half of a pump call vers my whole face. A little goes a long way.
Ninja Gemma, hilarious😂😂😂👍,and your mom is back 👍👍,this is going to be a great video. The foundation is one of the best on you in the daylight check in. You looked absolutely amazing in this one in natural lighting. Thank you for reviewing this foundation, cant wait for it launching her in Norway. Have a great weekend😊❤
Rock on Ninja! I always look forward to hearing your opinions. Even with the US release delay, I wait until Pampered Wolf's verdict is in. I have mature skin (which now tends to be dry and flakey) so enjoy hearing and seeing how products wear on Mum as well. Keep up the excellent work!
Firstly, I know the whole point of the review is to be ultra critical but ...... quite honestly, if the end result once applied to my skin looked anything as good as yours or your Mum’s, I would be immensely happy! I thought it looked stunning, natural and fresh with a youthful appearance and one that I personally think looked very flattering on both of you. Thanks, as always for the really in depth review and I think I will give it a go, based purely on your own finished look.
So many American UA-camrs were praising this foundation, and I was going to purchase this weekend. I have oily/combi skin, that will get flaky when I use my Retin A. So happy you did this very detailed review, bc I am going to save myself some money & pass on this foundation. Thanks, Gemma! PS, you and your Mom are both so gorgeous! Xo
This looks beautiful on both of you after it dried down a bit and it does make your skin look luminous. But I agree that it does seem so oily! I’m now using Clinique Refresh Hydrating and Repairing in “flax”. It’s a mainstay until No.7 sends their hydrating laminating.. foundation over here to the US. That’s the one I’m waiting for. I look forward to all your videos.
Double wear is also not transfer proof although they swear by it. I use double wear for years. It lasts at least until the evening. Thank you. You are always spot on
You tickled me with the weather comment, i feel like we’ve constantly been hit by storms this past few weeks and my hair has been a sight after every venture out!! Regarding this foundation I bought it Monday and I really like it and I have combo skin. It lasts really well which I was surprised at. I used to love the original double wear but I’m hitting 40 this year and it was just too heavy so really enjoying this. Plus my recent foundation has been the la mer which is absolutely gorgeous and I wish I hadn’t bought as I do love it but I can’t bring myself to buy again due to the price tag 🙈. But as you’ve said everyone will have a difference in opinion, great video as always x
Great review! I am 49 with combo oily skin and i am a massive fan of the estee lauder double wear (so sorry😉) Anyhoo - love your sense of humor love your channel and love love your gorgeous mom!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ Have a great weekend ❤️❤️❤️😘
O Gemma, you are still a breath of fresh air in beauty youtube land. You are exactly the same Gemma that i started to watch when you had 20k subscribers. Informative, fun and a contagious personality..never ever change. Gosh I don't know what to do about this foundation. I have dry skin,so much so I wear Nivea body creme as my daytime moisturiser and usually wear heavy matt foundations. So this might be up my alley, but I don't want to spend £36 on another foundation that will go into "I never use / don't like drawers". I've no JL near me,so might wait until it's rolled out, to get a sample of the foundation. Hope you and your beautiful family are well. Have a fab weekend xx
Gemma, you look stunning in every video and your Mum is such a doll! I love that you featured this on her too. Since we still can’t get NYX Born to Glow here in the States, I might give this a try. I think living in Arizona I will like the extra hydration as at 66 I have dry to combo skin. I’m going to go to a department store & see if I can get a sample of it first, like a few others have done. Finding the correct shade I’d SOOO difficult, so need some help. Thank-you as always for your informative video.😊
Thank you both for a most informative review. I love the friendly banter between you and your mum 😊 I’m sticking with No7 Hydraluminous foundation, I think it’s got a sprinkle of magic properties x
I never comment on any video, and I watch your channel when I can, but I have to say your mom and your makeup look fantastic! I know you both are not overly thrilled with it, but honestly, it looks better then a lot of others. Maybe give it a try again!💖
Love your videos and how lovely your relationship is with your Mum ❤ So nice to watch someone around my own age group doing makeup tutorials etc. I was really tempted by the idea of this foundation as my skin is dry this time of yr, but having watched your video I dont think its one i will like afterall, so thank you 👍 You just saved me 36 quid! 👌😆❤
Amy B I was thinking the same. I looked at this foundation in JL yesterday but there was no one on the EL stand, again(!) so no chance of a colour match. Glad I didn’t bother
This looks very nice on your Gemma, the color is very good...but when you mentioned that it emphasizes pores and texture, and I do have rather dry skin but I think I will not be trying this one! And I don’t like a “Dewy Look” either, rather a “satin” finish- Thanks for this review! ☺️💕
You both look lovely, and watching you both (my favorite Brits) is quite relaxing. Thanks for doing this, but I'll pass on this foundation. I don't like the finish for me, and I wear glasses and I'm a face toucher. My chin's on my hand right now. This would disappear in a few hours. The fragrance is also a no-go.
Even though I generally wear the same shade as you Gemma, I purchased the 2N1 shade. It was too dark, but mixed my Armani luminous silk in shade 2. Ordered and received 1N0, a hair light on me... tomorrow I’ll add a splash of 2N1, which will be good as my summer shade. I do powder with Clinique Stay Matte pressed powder to reduce glow. This may be my new HG. Ps. Both you and your mum look fabulous in this foundation!! 😍
You read my mind Gemma and Mum! I have been really thinking about this foundation, to mix with my double wear or other foundations that I like, as my skin is getting dryer and need to adapt my make up these days. But now not sure I will bother. Thank you ladies x😊
I have been using this for a week and I really like it! Doesn’t last me all day but to go out for a short time it’s fine. I think it’s really flattering for more mature skin.
I went into Debenhams today to get this, based on the American reviews, I’ve booked an an appointment for the release date. After your review I think I may reconsider and may work my way over to the Dior counter and try out one of theirs. Thanks for the review!
At 67 with dehydrated combination skin with texture I find my share of challenges in foundation. I purchased and tried it, and it clung to my texture areas, where their futurist, double wear light, and double wear didn't! I found the best success with this mixing it with other foundations, especially with my Missha BB Cream! I think for the price, it should stand on it's own, it is also great mixed with the Revlon Colorstay for normal to dry!
Thank you for a most informative review. I love the friendly banter between you and your mum 😊 I’ll sticking with No7 Hydraluminous foundation, I swear it has a touch of magic in it. Either that or I’m getting more short sighted. I’m going with the former! x
Hi Gemma, I had ordered this foundation prior to watching your video. I have been using EL Double Wear for years & wanted a "lighter" foundation so I ordered the EL Futurist Hydrating. You & your mom's observations were spot on! After applying this foundation, I waited for it to dry down. After 5 min., I used my setting powder & still had more of a shine than I wanted! So, I grabbed my pressed powder and was finally satisfied with the look of this foundation. It may take me a while to get used to a less than matte look. The jury is still out though. Thanks again for your honest reviews. Love your mom too! I was able to order the same shade in the Futurist as I wear in the Double Wear from the Sephora website. Sorry, I keep forgetting things! I am normal with oily t-zone.
I ordered this a few days ago and am waiting for it. Looking forward to trying it as I have super dry skin but not flaky. The foundation looked beautiful Gemma on both you and your mom. I hope I like it. I have lots of sun damage and sun spots from years of sun back in the day with no sunscreen. I’m almost 60 so trying to cover up the damage.
What would I do without you and your Mum, Gemma? I was looking at this product just the other day; I'm closer to Mum in age and have similar skin issues. It's gorgeous after full make-up on both of you, but Mum wins; not buying. Ty and Mum so much. x
I got this last night. After seeing the first 25 5 star reviews on John Lewis website, I thought I would take a look. First thing out of the box, I just tried it on my hand and noticed the oily texture and long dry down. But before reading the box, which says give it a good shake before use. So ill do that and see what I think about the application. You both looked really good I must say, so I have high hopes. Ive been enjoying a cheapie foundation lately, wet n wild photo focus. 6 pounds, that has a lovely smoothing finish and doesn’t settle into pores or lines. And I’ve tried out the Nyx glass skin finishing powder, love that one. My daughter even said are you having a good skin day today. You do such thoughtful in depth reviews, you are my go to channel before I buy anything 🤩
Thank you for this thorough and complete review of the foundation. It is 50% off at Ulta today so I contemplated buying it for my own mom, but I think I’ll hold off and find a different foundation for her.
Awe thanks to you and your mum for doing this review...i think i will give it a miss...but it does look beautiful on both of you...hugs to you both paula 😀
I love how you have laughed and smiled thru the whole video. I can relate with you so much. You act real so genuine. That’s something I have never told anyone on UA-cam. Love you Doll.
Gemma, it's the LIQUID ZINC OXIDE which makes it so shiny!! It NEVER stops shining, and always shows the slightest imperfection!! I don't ever powder so it's a nightmare for me. I only use it to mix in very small measure with other foundations. 😨😵😞😙
Lol...I was so caught up in how AMAZING your eyelashes look Gemma, that I missed a lot & had to go back and watch it again. You & Mom both look pretty. I'm torn on this one.
I got a sample of this from Sephora and I LOVE it! It wore well throughout the day, used it with my Tarte poreless primer and HG setting powder. Hopefully they'll come out with more shades down the road, maybe they're waiting for how well it sells? Thanks for the super closeup shot in natural light, super helpful for my aging eyes (hooded eyes and yes, I'll request a hooded eye tutorial again LOL) Love your channel Gemma. Aloha!
Hi Jan! You both look beautiful in the foundation even up close! But the oily look/need for powder- probably not for me. I'm like Jan and usually don't have much on by the end of the day! I really appreciate seeing it on both of you! Jan's skin beautiful!! And Gemma your skin is looking so so grest! And beautiful lips💜
Hmm, think I'll skip, I wouldn't have the patience for the dry down and I hate greasy feeling foundations. I am currently using the NYX born to glow and am very happy with that, price point too! Thanks for the recommendation on that one!
Great review . Yeah I would be an oil slick 4 hours in! seems like a great look for like a nice dinner but not all day on oily skins/combo skins. Glad I saw this as you saved me $
Excellent video. Nice and useful, as usual. I also love seeing your wonderful lovely mum so please, give my regards to her and huge hugs to both of you. I agree with her, I don't like my foundation looking shiny and this one does look a bit too oily for me so big thanks for such useful information. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I'm so glad you and Jan reviewed this together. I was so close to getting it but I waited for your review. Having lines and the usual issues with older skin I was anxious to hear your Mum's opinion. My skin is dry like yours but I'm a big hugger and a bit of a face toucher like your Mum so the transfer issue is a problem for me too. I guess I'll pass but the good news for you is no one is going to steal this foundation from you. 😄😄 Say hi back to Seth and Bea and love to you all! XXOO❤❤ C
See if you can get a sample! I had a sample the other day and my daughter was like your skin looks so good! 😂 Yeah it should for over $40 😂. Too pricey for me !
I love you and your Mum. I feel as she does. Don't want so much shine. With the powder, it was much better. My skin is combo also. Keep up the good work. !❤
I did purchase this foundation and I really like it, but I do lightly powder when finished. I am not a face toucher so I have no problem there. Thanks 🙏
I bought this and have worn it for about a week and I HATE it and plan to return it this weekend. I have combo skin and this foundation dries my skin out like no other I've ever tried. Baffling for a hydrating foundation. It actually caused my skin to flake.
Your mom is absolutely adorable. Thanks for such a thorough review I was interested because I heard how it wasn't settling into lines, but with the fragrance as you explained & the hours it takes to dry down and feeling the occlusive heats from it (I know what you mean) I know this isn't for me. Anything that gives me the heats makes me feel claustrophobic & I have to wash it off. LOL
You two look lovely as ever. I would probably be team Jan on this one. I have normal skin but I am a face toucher. I feel like I am always on my phone and try avoiding foundations that are not transfer resistant. Also, I don't mind a lightly scented lip product but not fond of other scented face products. Think this one overall will be a pass. Thank you so very much for your honest reviews! Peace, love, and happiness!
Thank you for reviewing this Gemma. Not sure I would like this one. I can’t stand anything feeling oily on my skin and I very rarely use powder so this will be a no from me ❤️ xx
Great video. thank you. I am 66 with somewhat dry skin, not flaky and really enjoy Estee Lauder Doublewear. I tried this foundation and had no problem with it being oily or even extremely dewy. I spread it with my fingers and it blends beautifully, leaving a lovely finish. I try not to use a large amount and I wonder if using less could be the difference?
@@PamperedWolf That is one of the reasons I enjoy your reviews of foundations, I can trust you to be thorough. I was just thinking that it might help others who are trying it to consider using less. I use one pump maximum. Thanks again for your videos, they are fun and informative;.
In the states they are calling this a sheer to medium coverage. Also looking at you applying it to your mom it looked like you put on a lot of product. At 66 I’m all in for sheerer. I use chantecaille because of that. Don’t powder myself. . Eyes are my biggest difficult thing to try to do. Need to buy smaller brushes. Thx for the review. ❤️ Might try because of SPF and other add ins.
I bloody love this foundation. The formula is perfection to me, I love the glow and let it was really light going on and felt like I was wearing nothing but looked perfected. No 7 hydraluminous settled and went hideously patchy and powdery on me
Your mum has so beautiful and kind eyes 😍 Thanks for the video. I want to share a thought about makeup color ranges. I'm very happy to see dark shades in my little towns drugstore now. Very happy for alle the darker skin toned women. I am OK if a drugstore brand only has so much colors as long as the range is big enough to mix all the shades in between. The designers should be able to create a range like that. With a high end brand it's another case, as I don't have the money to buy two or three shades to mix them. They should be able to produce more than 20 shades for the prices they demand. What, do you think?
Thanks for the honest review, Gemma & Jan. I think it looks beautiful on both of you! But, I'm afraid the chemical SPF would make it a no for me. Much like the It Cosmetics BB cream, unfortunately.
I didn't know IT Cosmetics had come out with a BB Cream! I'm interested so thanks for the news. They do have a CC Cream, which has an SPF of 50, but that is a *Mineral sunscreen, which is soothing, not sensitizing. Probably one reason it's so thick, since the chemical sunscreens are much thinner and lighter and they are the ones which usually end up in cosmetics. I think Gemma said this Estee Lauder formula contains the chemical sunscreen(s).
@@nosleep7357 my mistake - it's their CC cream. I can't say for sure what in that formula doesn't agree with my skin, but others have suggested it's the sunscreen. Could also be the fragrance. I just know it makes my skin feel extremely dry like something is literally drawing the moisture out of my skin.
Deb Leigh I’m 55 with dry skin and thinking about trying this foundation. I’m curious what primer, if any do you like to use with it. I’ve tried Chanel velvet and it’s too drying on my skin. I tried Chanel aqua and it wouldn’t stay on🤦♀️ I want to find a holy grail!
Jackie Crowder First I went to Ulta and they gave me a sample of EL Futurist. There was enough for about four uses. After wearing it four times I knew I was going to buy the full size. I change up my primer, and it tends to work with all of them. I Have a pretty strict skin care regimen… So sometimes I don’t use primer at all. I have the Chanel velvet Lumiere, and it’s also a little dry for me, I use it to mix with other foundations and it worked much better that way.
Thanks Gemma for the review, I was waiting to see what you thought. Its a no for me, too oily and I am definitely a face toucher like your Mum!! Fantastic Review as always xx

This video explained so many things I experienced myself when wearing it, but didn’t know why. Thank you Gemma!
I just adore you two. I love the relationship you have with your Mom. Both beautiful. Very informative video. Thanks
REALLY like and appreciate the brush vs sponge applications
Your mom looks gorgeous! She has beautiful skin! her make was on point! Very beautiful woman! Have a blessed day!
I’m going to give it a try. Your video was so thorough and helpful and my goodness you and your mum are so beautiful!
I love watching you two together 🤣your mum is so beautiful , really gorgeous 🥰and you look gorgeous as well , just like your mum 💕
Personally I think it looks natural and very pretty on your skin.... lovely! Not heavy not overdone but also flawless! Like it
OMG. I absolutely love this foundation. I don't find it oily and I don't set it with powder but everyone's skin is different. I have to say that I know your mother didn't love the foundation but she looked absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks Linda - it was lovely at first but just didn’t last on me. Xx
So interesting! I have this foundation and it isn't oily on me at all and dries quickly. I find it looks great and lasts a long time.
I absolutely love this foundation, stays all day love love love xx
I am 49 with combo oily skin and i am a massive fan of the estee lauder double wear (so sorry😉) Anyhoo - love your sense of humor love your channel and love love your gorgeous mom!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Have a great weekend ❤️❤️❤️😘
Lo Chambers Thank you 🥰 I would definitely wait to get a sample if you’re unsure. I really like it xxx
Nyx born to glow is sold at Ulta! I got mine there I live in the states.
Thank you both for a most informative review. I love the friendly banter between you and your mum 😊
I’m sticking with No7 Hydraluminous foundation, I think it’s got a sprinkle of magic properties x
Awww yey! I was going to ask you about this! Some of the American reviewers have really liked it so I was hoping you might review it! xx
Yes, i have got something from this video. My lovely, bubbly and funny (mad haired) Gemma is back!! Soph.xxx
Thanks for the review. I always love it when you try cosmetics on your mother.
My dry, textured skin doesn't like anything scented.
Jem , thank you for getting Jens opinions too ! I really appreciate that
You look so beautiful! Your makeup looks flawless!
I think your skin looks amazing with this foundation Gemma. Your forehead is so smooth!! 🤩
I've been applying a pump of each foundation. The Double Wear and this and it works for my skin. Try it !!
I love the friendly banter between you and your mum 😊
I’ll sticking with No7 Hydraluminous foundation, I swear it has a touch of magic in it.
With all the rhetoric on line. You’re a breath of fresh air!
Absolutely!
I love how you have laughed and smiled thru the whole video. I can relate with you so much. You act real so genuine. That’s something I have never told anyone on UA-cam. Love you Doll.
I was thinking of grabbing this one so this was a really helpful review ! To be fair it looks beautiful on both of you, and I love seeing your mum ❤️
Gemma, it's the LIQUID ZINC OXIDE which makes it so shiny!!
It NEVER stops shining, and always shows the slightest imperfection!!
I don't ever powder so it's a nightmare for me. I only use it to mix in very small measure with other foundations.
😨😵😞😙
I love your Mom...Mom has the most beautiful smile!
Glad I saw this as you saved me $
C S consider getting a free sample of you can as I’ve heard people with oily skin really like it. Worth a try for free xxx
XXOO❤❤
C
See if you can get a sample! I had a sample the other day and my daughter was like your skin looks so good! 😂 Yeah it should for over $40 😂. Too pricey for me !
Hurray, Gemma and Mum are back in the house. Not bothered about the foundation, just glad you are back, but you both looked very pretty. 💐💐
I love you and your Mum. I feel as she does. Don't want so much shine. With the powder, it was much better. My skin is combo also. Keep up the good work. !❤
I love this foundation. It covers my mature skin also. I have very skin.Yes it's very lightweight with medium coverage. Ypundo.have to shake it first.
GAWD I love your brows! I want to marry them!!!
LOL
I love you and your mum 🥰 haven't tried the foundation yet, still to come!
I tried it over several days Jan. xxx
Love seeing you both. I thought it looked beautiful on camera. Tell mum hello and that she looks gorgeous xoxo
Kristin S I agree x
Such a bummer this did not last on your mom’s face, it looked so good on her skin! I’m 55, and I love this foundation! It has become my holy Grail.
If you shake it up and wear a suitable primer it really isn't oily at all
🧡💜❤️ absolutely LOVED this video. Many thanks. I’m now going to seek out your past videos and have subscribed so as not to miss your future posts ❤️💜🧡
