This is insane! I had no idea that the blueberry, blackberry, or rose could propagate from cuttings. Thank you!!
I'm growing basil from my summer plant in my apartment
This is just the coolest channel when it comes to gardening info and hacks. We are moving from 7a to 8a zone and we were going to dig our blueberry plants for transplant. Now, we'll just take cuttings! Thanks Jag!!
Make sure you use rooting hormone and that you have roots on your cuttings before you move! Blueberries can be a real pain to set roots from cuttings. You don’t want to move and then realize you don’t actually have roots. I’d make sure you have a lot of samples so you can ensure you at least get one.
I have had only about 60% success rate with blueberries, they are hard to root. Either make sure you have established new plants with roots or trim down your existing plant and take with you.
@@D71219ONE thank you so much! Will do as adviced.
Thanks Jag, I’ve propagated roses and gooseberries from cuttings and done tip layering on gooseberries with good success. I’ll be trying raspberries, blackberries and black currants in 2024.
I have never done cuttings, but want to try after watching
Try it out! Let me know how it goes!
I will do this with my wild blackberries! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I have been doing cuttings totally wrong, and this video helped me see where and how.
Glad it helped! :)
I live about 5 hours north of you Your videos remind me to take advantage of this cool weather for these tasks. Can’t wait to try some of these.
Get growing!!
This channel is amazing, always gets straight to the point, short and precise while giving tonnes of important details!! I am in 7b zone, is it too early to take cuttings of my Blackberries and Grapes and wait till Feb or can i do it now please? Thank you
Glad you like the videos! 7b you can take cutting in Dec, Jan, or Feb! :)
Great tips
Great video!!!
Really interesting and helpful - thank you!
Thanks for the tips and hacks 😊
Trying adding some natural apple cider vinegar to your water..or chopping up lemons soaked overnight in a watering can if you only have a couple bushes
That’s awesome to know … as I just ordered my berries & grape vines to start this spring …now I can make more as I need them ..! Really enjoying your channel 👍👏 !!
Hi Jag I enjoy watching your videos to you and your family happy holidays take care bye.
Thank you for watching Sandra
Fascinating! Which part of California are you growing in?
This is so helpful! Have you ever tried cinnamon for the rooting hormone for the blueberries? Thanks for all the great information here!
I tried, doesn't work with blueberries unfortunately!
Amazing advice! Thank you!!! But why do you cut the leaves off?
It helps the plant focus all its energy on growing new roots 🥰
@@debbiedouglas2927 i was always under the impression that the leaves held nutrients. This video helped me realize it's unnecessary
Does the poting soil PH matter for propagation? The PH acidity.....
Thank you! Clear instructions on your video 👍🏻 Time for me to start more blueberry and raspberry plants, yay! One thing us NOT clear to me - do I keep these transplants indoors for the winter? I’m in zone 8 and we DO have winter freezing temps here (mostly at nite).
I was just about to ask the very same thing.
Keep inside a greenhouse or inside your house next to a window, temperature should not dip below 65F (18C)
Here in the Caribbean, we propagate sugarcane, using a faster technique. Just take the "log" and bury it horizontally. It will grow.
You have a tropical climate, if we do that where we get frost or snow, the cutting will not grow until April or May and it won't have enough time to produce sugarcane stalks before the frost in Nov
@@DaisyCreekFarms Thank you, for explaining. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and grow. Have a great weekend. Naleni
How well does this work in colder climates? I live in the Fraser Valley in SW British Columbia. Should I do this at the end of winter (Feb) or now (Dec)? Should I take my cuttings indoors or can I leave them outside in my non heated greenhouse? Temperatures here in January average below freezing (-5 C) but can go even lower if we get an arctic airflow.
Thanks for your hard work in these videos.
Love your videos, but I wanted to ask you something what temperature are you supposed to keep the blueberries in for the next two months while they develop roots. I don’t have a greenhouse, but I was planning to put mine by a sunny window with some plastic bags over it to remain the moisture.
Yes, keep them inside next to a window, temperature should not drop below 65F (18C)
@@DaisyCreekFarms muchas gracias. I learn so much with your videos. Muchas gracias again.
Can you do the same with wild blackberry?
Yes you can, they are easier to root than any other plant
I'd like to have sugar canes someday! 👍
Do you propagate cherry trees as well? Thanks
Help! I checked on some of the quick root powders on Amazon and some say they are "not" for fruit growing plants. What kind did you use?
Would you tell me how to hold those cuttings over winter so they don't die or freezer out. Do i need a green house in zone 7? A cold frame? Or would they be ok left exposed to the elements? We have had some way below zero cold snaps the last few years. Seems like one was two weeks long. Any advice would be helpful.

With your cuttings after initial watering do you water from the bottom or the top
From the top
Hey Jag, we have muscadine grape. Would this cutting process work?
Yes it will!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
can i purchase some berries bushes from you ?
Dp you keep them in the house until they show growth? Can they root keeping in my covered tunnel without heat through winter? Life in some 7-9
Keep inside a greenhouse or inside your house next to a window, temperature should not dip below 65F (18C)
Do you have to keep the cuttings in a plastic bag (to create a mini greenhouse effect)? If you do, how long did you keep it in the bag? Thank you
Not required for most cuttings, figs yes, but do not take fig cuttings in winter, only in spring and summer. you can keep the plastic bag for one week to 2 weeks.
Isn’t sugar cane a tropical plant? Wouldn’t mind trying to grow here in Central Ohio (6a), but if it is a tropical plant, not going to bother since it’s freezing here now. 😊
That's why i start the cuttings in winter indoors and then plant outside in spring. You do not have to do this in tropical climate, they plant straight in ground. 6a season is much shorter, you will need a greenhouse, keep the sugarcane covered in Mar and April, keep the greenhouse open in summer and then cover again starting in oct and nov when you start getting frost or snow. Harvest in Nov/Dec. It's possible but is is a lot more work.
Will the aloe/cinnamon mixture work for the blueberries?
No, unfortunately it doesn't work for the blueberries
Can you show me a way to propagate Pakistani Mulberry tree from a branch Jag?
Pushpinder, use the same method as grapes, take long cuttings and place in deep pots
What zone are you in?
Zone 9b
Update: hey Jag and nice folks who provided advice, we got potting soil and root hormone. We'll be cutting muscadine grape, blueberry, tea olive tree, and lavender. Here we go!
Awesome! Do share how it goes!
What kind of root hormone did you get? Some of the ones I saw were not for my blueberries!
We planted sugar cane. Just when the plants took off, the deer found them. 🤨
Yikes, the deer got the sweet tooth!
