According to Rod King you can get across a 10 mile wide town in 15 minutes at 20 mph, while the laws of physics state it will actually take you 30 minutes. So clearly he has no understanding on how slow 20mph is as he has stated it is the same speed as driving 40mph.

I've tried driving through town at 20mph . I'm in third gear, using more fuel and taking much longer to clear the area. This also means that the timetables for public transport will have to be amended, many services being cancelled. Have these idiots tried carrying a weeks shopping for a family of five on foot or on your bike. It will not encourage walking or cycling. It is just another way of making money for local councils. A great deal of people who support these changes dont drive. Also will these limits also apply to cyclists. Bet they dont!

@@Bill-Phuk It is all compromise, my car won't either, but didn't stop them putting the cruising speed a few kmh above the third lowest speed limit, and shipping centres, you often can't even ride the throttle at 10km/h. Over here we have 20lm/h 30km/h 40km/h 50km/h, instead of just the normal 60km/h. Watch out, we have round abouts at 30km/h with the signs a long way off, and the 60km/h a long way off. If wouldn't be so bad of it was on the round about, and 40 or 50
But no. They also obstruct vision with vegetation so you can't check if somebody is around a round about to avoid running into th at 30lm/h. So dangerous. The problem is we get a lot of jacked up .... on bikes. We can't have them making policy for 95% of people. The bike is bit outdated, and on countries with more bikes the accidents can be horrendous. You are just increasing your chances of having an accident versus a food car driver.

Drakeford turned his back on 6000+ consulted about the 20 limit Consultation which did not support the blanket 20 limit. Instead he went along with a much smaller survey of a 1000 of which 63% said yes to 20mph in the area where they live & used this to persuade the Senedd to support his foolish blanket 20 limit debacle.
Misleading the Senedd is a breach of the Ministerial code for which the First Minister would expect any other AM to tender their resignation.
In the Environment Bill consultation (May23) Ministers took the view that 2229 respondents may not be representative of Wales population. A Walesonline poll of over 6000 returned 92% opposed. Yet despite the foregoing, instead of calling for a broader representative poll, Drakeford went with the smaller sample which supported the narrative. On this basis alone 20 limit should be rejected outright.
Drakefords Law (20 limit) is based a range of assumptions and untruths which collectively add weight to his breach of the Ministerial code.
Welsh Assembly Ministers opposed to 20 limit should collate this information and call for Drakefords immediate resignation along with scrapping of the 20 limit debacle.
Drakefords Law is not fit for purpose

Wales 20mph why ? = 20mph proven to be no safer than 30mph.
ICE cars stop at 30mph very quick.
It takes the very heavy EV Cars as long to stop at 30mph as it takes an ICE car to stop at 50mph.
20mph = EV cars cannot stop quick enough at 30mph - they are too heavy and too dangerous for 30mph roads.
So inreality the new road rulings 20mph and lots of 60/50 mph being lowered to 40mph should only apply to EV - this then puts them on par with ICE in stopping distances.
EVs have remote stop systems and are tracked so the tech is all already in place to just apply all the new lowered speed limits to EVs.

@@chrishart8548 Yours is a very best case scenario on a road that follows the crow's straight flight path and that has no traffic lights or impeding traffic, etc. You can probably double that, even triple it, in London during business hours. I know delivery drivers are constantly stopping and making deliveries, but many would travel less than 40 miles in a day that can last more than 14 hours. And that's without a blanket 20mph speed limit to further slow proceedings. The problem is that even Labour politicians have lost touch with the labouring classes that move goods, including parts used to manufacture and repair, as well as finished goods, and provide mobile services. And time really is money for each business in the chain and every end consumer. This will not only burn more fossil fuel and disproportionately increase harmful emissions, but will also fuel inflation and create delays, frustration, and discontent. The politicians are either stupid or know exactly what they are doing. They may well be stupid, but they also know exactly what they are doing, and doing it regardless. Remember, they commission plenty of research, modelling, and consultancy reports. They know the science, but don't follow it. They know the economic impacts and ignore them. What they follow is the ideology, no matter the costs, no matter the negative impacts on people's lives. And the best they can do is manufacture virtual non-existent statistical deaths in a worst-case model. It is coordinated and choreographed chaos, and big business is in on it, too. When you are poor and own nothing, but not happy, the only means of resistance will be contained by locking down the ghettos, aka X-minute cities that are the antithesis of cities.

So the Welsh Government has just decimated the Welsh tourist trade because no one will visit Wales now, I certainly won’t. It is also very bad for the environment because it means cars using a lower gear which is totally inefficient for the vehicle and creates more pollution. Labour will destroy the country. If I lived in Wales I would be voting every single Labour MP out of office. Rod, you have no idea.

Here in Belgium everywhere even the small cities is 30km/h the norm.
And the government has also given even the small towns to put speed camera's and fine anyone the drives 31 km/h.
Of course easy cash grab for all towns and cities, and abuse of the system.
And in a lot of cases you enter an 30km/h zone and you never saw the sign because it is tiny.
Driving at 30 km/h is very hard because you need to look at your dashboard none-stop. So you stop looking at the traffic, only your dashboard. 31 km/h and BAM fined.
Other observation is that people that want to speed, don't care about 30%km/h, they go full throttle making it dangerous for any pedestrian in the dark.
The 30 km/h has only thing in goal. Suck the motorist dry of money.

As far as I remember, to introduce a change to the normal national speed limit, there has to be proof that there will be a reduction in casualties (you cannot just say there will be) so why is nobody going through the road traffic rules to check that what they are doing is legal. Don't take a politician's word for it as they are the least likely to have a clue. Someone(Westminster?) should be looking at this via the courts if necessary.
