This is everything that it means to be Irish, wrapped in beauty, tradition and heart. It is astounding. I don't think it gets any better.
You're right. Its doesn't. ❤️
This is one of the most true, most real, things I have ever listened to. This is beautiful.
I feel super similarly, . just . remember : we're here for it all, not just one.

Absolutely freaking AMAZING!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
All those who died for liberty have heard the eagle scream
All those who died for liberty have died but for a dream
Oh then rise, rise, rise, dark horse on the wind
For in no nation on earth more broken dreams you'll find
The flames leapt high, reached to the sky 'til they seared a nation's soul
In the ashes of our broken dreams we've lost sight of our goal
Oh then rise, rise, rise, dark horse on the wind
And help our hearts seek Róisín, our soul again to find
Now charlatans wear dead men's shoes, aye and rattle dead men's bones
'Ere the dust has settled on their tombs, they've sold the very stones
Oh then rise, rise, rise, dark horse on the wind
For in no nation on the earth more Pharisees you'll find
In grief and hate our motherland her dragon's teeth has sown
Now the warriors spring from the earth to maim and kill their own
Oh then rise, rise, rise, dark horse on the wind
For the one-eyed Balor still reigns king in our nation of the blind

Recently discovered Radie and Lankum/Lynched about a month ago. First singer and group I've truly fallen in love with in a while.
Their work and the work of others in the Dublin folk scene of the last few years (like Lisa O'Neill and Ye Vagabonds) have truly created/resurrected a style that speaks deeply into my soul. (Must admit, do have a bit of a crush on Radie too.) :)
me too about 4month ago and i asked myself why haven't I heard of these band or radie peat before because they are absolutely brilliant .
Cool
!
It's like a call to arms. A really, really terrifying one.
It took some scrolling to find a comment that mentioned this being "terrifying", but I very much agree. You could say its sad or mornful too, but that wouldnt be enough. Theres an element of the supernatural in how this sounds, and its not the Disney kind. Im well aware of what the subject of the lyrics is, but when put with this harmonium and way of singing, its almost as if its a communication from the next world, from victims of violent cirumstances beyond their control, hysterically wrathful in their grief, eternally restless in their abject lament. The only thing that comes close for me is the metal band Bell Witch, who deal a lot with ghosts in their lyrics. Their music doesnt generally have the same sense of WRATH as this does though, its more concerned with the sadness and sombreness involved in loss. Ive never heard anything like this. Nothing has instilled in me the feeling of being on the recieving end of a ghostly victim's otherworldly lament the way this has. Easily one of the most powerful things I have ever heard, full stop.
@@willterhart6767 I completely agree about the supernatural aspect. I always felt that Stairway to Heaven had utilized some otherworldly power too. Radie seems to have a gift for tapping into long gone thoughts and feelings doesn't she?
@@willterhart6767 Caoineadh. Respect.
One of the best voices I have ever heard.I am genuinely disinterested in new music but Radies voice has turned me against that instinct
Same
I also met her & spoke to her after a gig in Dublin. I don't have the words to express the impression she left on me❤
@@roibeardcoughlan9290 had been lucky enough to share some tunes with the guys from Lankum. After playing and singing some beautiful tunes, She was the one that asked me if I could play something on my flute. Quite an unforgettable moment
Bloody wonderful. Liam Weldon long since due a mention though - his song.
Yup. I was thinking of Liam Weldon, listening to this. Pat
What a beautiful energy.
Come back to this for a listen often. Beautiful.
Is that Katie Kim there too?
I seriously wish I was there to drink the wine and enjoy this.
I want to live this life
Freaking hell, this band can do no wrong & constantly soar high with the sonic angels, we are truly blessed
This performance is Incredibly powerful .. Truly glorious Radie .x
Oof I swear like 100 of the listens are from me 🖤
A true angel's voice. Dark and powerful, a fey force to wrest souls from the gloom and have them dance.
Nothing like celtic dirges to bring generations of pain and suffering to the light and make it a beautiful part of us now.
Just f-----g amazing Radie.
A demons voice.... one to eat one whole and love sí
OH MY FUCKING GOD ! That has absolutely blown mind, Take a bow..... wow
One eyed Balor
With his all seeing eye
Is now King of all the globe
Jahbulon of Babylon
Did clad him in kings robes
Who on earth would thumb down this? ☘️🤨☘️
I keep coming back to this. Wish I could buy the song somewhere. Beautiful and Bitter. Chills
That is one powerful song
This is truly incredible...
Never a bad one. Thanks so much for this superb performance. R.
Simply otherworldly. Haunting and stirring to the soul. Beautiful and very ancient sounding the way Radie Peat sings and harmonizes to that single note. There are similar traditional ancient styles of singing around a single note that can be found across the world (India, Chechnya, Bulgaria, Norway, Indonesia, etc...) which I find fascinating as both a musician and an anthropologist. As always Myles, your film and audio work of you and your team is expertly done.
Wigon! Thank you. These other countries you speak of.. it would be a DREAM to chase this sound across the globe. That is my ultimate ambition. I just don't know how to make it happen.
If anyone can make this dream happen, you can. All you need to do is hook up with like-minded ethno-musicologists (a sub-set of anthropology) and let the grants come flowing in. They do the grant writing and provide the cultural expertise, while you provide the technical know-how, production experience, and equipment.
It's definitely possible and the quality of you and your team's work, in my opinion, is beyond reproach. It is as good as any pro-level videotography and sound work that I've seen. You have a knack for catching intimate moments of genuine human emotion that I think will translate well in many different cultures during your travels. To start off with, I would recommend that you perhaps team up with America's NPR (National Public Radio) if the BBC or some other similar media organization doesn't sponsor you. Trust me, you and your team absolutely have the talent and expertise to move on to the next level. It's just a matter of marketing yourselves to the right sponsors who can make it happen without having to compromise your vision.
And Tuva, where throat singing comes from. Overtone singing while droning.
Haunting... in the best possible way! Superb!!!
that is just wonderful
It's amazing!!! Great respect from Belarus!
Thank you, just can't stop listening 🎧 to this masterpiece ☘️🇮🇪🙏✝️🙏
Power. Pure power .
My heart is burning and bust......
Ok ! 1:13 I’m down. Too much power. Speechless
The revolutionary's lament after politicians grabbed the revolution and diluted it to something so weak that nobody recognizes it .. my Grandfather and Granduncle spoke the same after the betrayal they faced after fighting oppressions during WW2 .. and not even being allowed at the gravesites of their fallen comrades 5 years after ..
The absence of 'dislikes' (touch wood) I think says it all. Class.
Now that you say it... thats an impressive absence. Respect.
Oh gosh! Well. They must have been having a really bad day.
I'm absolutely amazed
I love when she gets the forehead veins of Ultimate Feeling and I don’t think her like will be seen again
I'm in love!
reminds me of a great north east band i listened to twenty years ago...please check them out! ..the UNTHANKS..
Haunting
This gave me chills.
Sublime !!!
This is absolutely amazing. Thank you.
Glorious as always
♥
This is amazing !
Anywhere I can buy this version for my phone to listen to forever? Outstanding. Look forward to more videos.
haunting
I always think of Radie as the 'anti-Celtic Women'. There's a rawness and a realness here- a window into the soul of the Irish people- that the sickly, sentimental, and slick 'traditional' product packaged up for the Irish/American market will never capture. Strictly Roots:-)
That's because most free staters are only interested in themselves your looking in the wrong part of Ireland
Thank you. I know what you mean. I'm American (1/2 Irish descent). I get tired of that cutsey "Irish" stuff too. A few pretty young women all dolled up in some fancy evening gowns of different colors; there's a blonde, a readhead, a brunette, and one with black hair. Yeah ! One of each..............They remind me more of Disney princesses.
You know, I always liked the sound of Sinead O'Connor as well. That sort of sadness or desperation in her voice. I know she's absolutely bat sh*t crazy and probably horrible to deal with in person, but she still is one of my favorite Irish female VOICES.
Jonathan Hatch to me it’s the music I heard from my Irish relatives
She's brilliant.
yep, hauntingly non-cute. Now that is rebellion.
She is beautiful
unreal

Well! That just stopped me in my tracks. Wow!!

This is yet to be discovered
not so sure about that.
I kn
ew Liam Weldons version but that gives me goosebumps,
Hello Myles. The shadow art featured here - is that you? Reminds me of Brakhage. Very cool.
Cheers Adam. Yes indeed is myself and Donal Dineen. We take roughly 4/5 stills per second of an overhead projection. Pleased u like!
I glimpsed a book at the beginning. It is no surprise to me that the person who sung this has read Norwegian Wood... a book that fucked me so bad I literally threw it off a balcony when I finished it
This should have been on GoT! Perfect in its imperfection i'll like it.
Thank you Tom Clarke, I wont forget.
I have been thinking recently be that auld dark horse that Radieis singing about here. How bad, eh? 🐴🐎😁
Is this at Analog Cat?
I kn
Does anyone know what instrument she is playing?
It's called a harmonium. I think it suits her spirit.
Tá Balor An tSúil Rí go foil cinnte.
Reminds me of Nico
No. Nothing like Nico apart from Nico sings in a low register. Not comparable.
the less instruments and less notes the better, I think.
It's a bit whiny but really good if ur in the mood for it, I myself like Canadian indy pop like alvvays or the big moon😁
Tempted to say, Jesus died for somebodies sins but not mine. If you have a soul, this surely must stir it.
If you want to go, go. Stop whining about it. If you want to stay, stay. But nice voice.
This is a song about political corruption.
I mean I suppose it's one response to problems in Ireland. Just feck off to Australia. People tried that for a while. But maybe there's another way of doing things? Like holding people accountable? Changing laws that are patently wrong? Seems to have been working recently anyway.
I don't understand this comment. The song is about rebellion not emigration.
And a good song at that, thanks to Radie.
reminds me of a great north east band i listened to twenty years ago...please check them out! ..the UNTHANKS..
The Unthanks are great but they don't come near this.
