You will never have country singers like this ever again. Vern, George, Merle, Waylon, Johnny, Hank....They all lived it. You have to have life experience to achieve that level of sincerity in your music. Without it traditional country music will cease to exist. Absolutely heartbreaking to hear Nashville these days. Makes me miss Vern and the other greats that much more.
Yes, life experience makes all the difference. I didn't care that much for his singing wat back in his younger years, but as he got a little older his singing echoed all the heartbreaks.
That’s pre country. No one today holds a candle to him. From the first time I heard that voice I fell in love. Wrong place and wrong time I guess. Still at 73 in love with Vern Gosdin
Gorgeous song. When Vern introduced it to the audience they sat silent..they were not silent for long..Imagine hearing this live and for the first time.
This song, Chisled In Stone, and If You're Going to Do Me Wrong, are right there along with He Stopped Loving Her Today, as beautiful touching, sad wonderful country music. What a voice Vern had, love his music
That voice is just amazing, definitely top 10 probably top 5 in country music history,he literally makes you feel the words he his singing,,I guess there is a reason he was called the “voice”
Vern was done. MIA. What you're witnessing now is a resurgence. A comeback. Country got sidetracked. Then a man by the name of Keith Whitley came on the scene. Brought everyone in Nashville back to their senses. And for a moment, saved country music. Then, a Pirate came out of Oklahoma, and destroyed it again. His name was Garth Brooks. Garth Brooks ruined country music the same way the Beatles destroyed rock and roll.
I can remember driving across the prairies in western canada singing this song to my self , I had just lost the love of my life, today I am singing this song with smile-----
We have to find people with the true talent that live real day to day lives with real struggles and we can bring true country music back. We are quickly losing everything in all parts of our lives as each day goes by, but we can make this one thing to hold on to and bring it back.
Vern Gosden wasn’t labeled the “Voice” for nothing. He falls in line with George Jones,Conway Twitty And Don Williams. It’s such a shame they have all passed but with videos,CDs and such I keep them in my heart
I do be believe Vern’s music IS an acquired sound but boy, did I just Love it? Absolutely YES. Rest in Peace, Vern. Literally millions love your sound as I did, and DO still! Never a show-off, only a Presenter of his voice and sound. So very sad that we lost him. Such a non - showy style of his music for us. Rest in Peace!
By far the number one tearjerker of all time he sang happy birthday to me on my 21st birthday in Charlotte North Carolina. I’ll never forget that moment 🎉… most underrated singer of all time also. Period rest in peace, my brother from another beautiful mother.
I lost the love of my life and this song and " I wonder where we'd be tonight " are my 2 favorite Gosdin hits that help me cope. I love you Shannon Bottoms with all my heart and soul. I wish things were different and I wish we could have lived our lives together. Forever yours. Mike.
The piano in these videos from these performances add so much to this amazing song and the mind-bogglingly amazing Vern Gosdin vocal performance. Vern should have used a lot more piano in his music, it is such a wonderful and needed touch. Vern is my favorite country singer of all time. I'm still blown away every time I hear him sing and this is one of his best songs.
I was about 14 years old and loaned my snare to Paul Cook for a Sunday show after he broke a head and couldn't find one. One of the best days of my life. Got to go backstage before the show, I sat with the bus driver during the show. I felt like a pretty big deal and they enabled it. Lol
I’m 23 now and grew up listening to old classic country and early 90’s country from my dad who just recently passed of cancer at 56 couple months ago I’m so glad I was raised listening to REAL country music every song actually had meaning and feeling makes me want to puke hearing what people call “country” now everybody sings literally about the same exact things.
I met him in a little Mexican Restaurant called Miguel's (long gone) in between Huntsville and Birmingham over 20 years ago, I remember it like it was yesterday.
