- Wiring for a rear fender brake light on a 2016 Harley Davidson Sportster 48. Also touch on my modified headlight mounting block.
Disclaimer-work on your bike at your own risk. If you don't know what your doing then put down your wrench and take it to a shop!
This was EXACTLY the info I've been looking for. Thanks!
Did you use stock cables and wiring for those apes and how high ?
I'm planning on making the same mod on my 2018 forty eight, with a black tinted tail light and replacing the 3in1 turn signals with also a dark tinted version, this is very helpful bro thanks for uploading this video !!
Thanks for uploading the video... its a big help... the one I'm installing has has turn signal features and now I know what direction to go
I have a led fender tailight that I want to use to replace my two stock taillights but it seems like the wiring is set up to connect to two separate lights. Any help with a way around this? The LED taillight i have has turn signal functionality but I can't seem to tie it in correctly.
Thanks for the video. I'm trying to do something similar but make the rear fender brake light to be the only brake light. With your setup, does the turn signals also light up when you brake?
Yes, and they are also a constant running light as well.
Dude thank you so much! I was breaking my head over this!
I have destroyed 2 of these b cause when you pass a bump the tire hits the light
Thanks for the information partner
Did it just like you it works no problem, thanks for the video 🙏
Hi look so easy but I try to my breakout harley I connect the yellow wire to the blue with red stripe like you said in the video but mine didn't work I touch the yellow wire to the ground and light when on ! What do you think is the problem please help thanks
I had to test each connection with my volt meter to determine what connections did what. I'm guessing HD changed up their color codes with the new models perhaps?
Great video! I just got a 2011 sportster 1200 now it only has the two turn signals on the back my question is stock form do those also function as brake lights? I know they are running lights also I’m trying diagnose if I have a brake light switch issue or if I got the bike without a brake light all together
The stock tail lights should have constant running lights, get brighter when the brake is engaged, and flash for turn signals/hazards. If not I would first check your bulbs and fuses.
@@beardedbatman9174 yeah I figured it out. It was the front brake switch got wore down but I fixed it thanks!
Dude thank you so much!
That might be the answer for my struggle. I'm connecting 4 wire tail lights into my 2008 sportster and I'm having issue with stop light and signal, everything i use turn signal in losing stop light (I've connected white to black, black to blue, red and yellow to purple) now I'll try to pull 4th wire from the harness...
Thanks for the help, just an fyi there is no nuetral just ground for DC thanks again!
Thanks it helped wire up a transmitter for my VATA7 backpack.
$5.00 test light will figure it out in 2mins. The pointy end of the light is there for a reason
Do you have the brand name for the light? Have a 2020 iron 1200 and wanted to put a fender light on mine
Good video
You've just saved me lot of time, bro. Thanks
I installed mine but now it is scraping off on my tire when I hit bumbs. Any tips on how to stop that?
Would this fit a Honda rebel perhaps?
sweet ride bro!
Thanks man!
Hwy man if you read this, what size of connector did you use or what size is the wire. 16-18 awg?
Yeah I think it would be 16. To make sure nothing came loose I soldered the connections.
Hey man awesome write up, I also have a ‘13 48 but my right/left signal module only has three wires (black purple blue) with no fourth slot. Where do you recommend I splice by brake light too?
Hard to say, they probably change wire colors to mess with us. I would take a volt meter to see which wires do what. The wiring diagrams I found for mine didn't match my colors so I had to do this also.
What is the extra plug for on the wire harness? The one with the long tab?
It is for a licence plate lights
How about grilling holes and some round bolts to hold the tail light?
Over 1 year in and the gorilla double sided tape is holding up perfect!
