What amazes me is how these young, young, young men (early 20's) could be making such amazing, soulful music at this age! When I think about what l was doing at their age....🙄😁😂

This concert was on Jimmy's 26th birthday and the sweater vest was a gift from his mom (I don't know if it was purchased or handmade). A lot of Jimmy's and Robert's clothes from this time were often from off beat, bohemian shops and thrift stores in California that had a lot of Western inspired clothing themes (like Jimmy's big, silver, chunky belt buckle). Some of the shops handmade shirts, some were made by groupies. Their clothes, especially Jimmy's, would become more elaborate and eclectic over time. Jimmy bought that Les Paul from guitarist Joe Walsh, of James Gang and Eagles fame. It had already been modified by having the neck shaved a bit to slim it down. Jimmy adored it and christened it his "Number One" and it would become his primary guitar. He would later get another similar Les Paul and call it Number Two.

Bonham (self taught)& Robert 21, JPJ 24, Jimmy (self taught) 26 yr old Fun fact: Jimmy just turned 80 1/9/24(exactly 54 yrs after this concert) and he still has AND plays ALL of his guitars! Now it’s time for How Many More Times RAH 70. PS: there’s a few improvised parts of Led Zeppelin II in there- you just never know where Robert will go live-can’t wait to see your reaction!

Plus he and Jimmy were sexy af which didn’t/doesn’t hurt my eyes any lol

Love this performance, love this entire concert!
Studio v. live? It can be difficult to choose but I'd say listen to the studio versions first for a couple of reasons. Page was a genius in the studio. Some of what they did wasn't so easily reproduced live so shouldn't be missed.
They loved to improvise when performing, creatively stretching a song this way and that. If one doesn't know the studio version, one can't so easily recognize when they're doing that, nor appreciate it as much.
Some songs I like the studio version more, some I like live more. The only way to know which you will like better is to hear them both. :)

The style back then was really cool. I have a brother 10 years older than I, and quite slight. I wore his hand me downs in the late 60’s and early 70’s because they were just so much cooler than what was available to a girl in Elementary School and Junior High. I look at what the band is wearing and yep, I wore it too. Lol

Simply brilliant since this concert has been available with this good sound quality; don't know any previous ones; a difference to Fillmore West's recordings in 1969, but which would be musically very interesting. One of my favourite songs!

FYI: Any time u do a vid from Zeppelin's official YT channel, u get those annoying "ads" for about 20 or so seconds. Sucks, but there it is. And: I think i was one of the many who rec'd this to you, but even if not, i will still say: superb choice, lol! I love the interactions between Bonham and JPJ especially, like they're sort of making stank faces at each other, haha! Really, there are a really big number of kick ass Zep vids out there, u can't go wrong with any of them. Jimmy's insane on this one! Keep diggin into 'em!

Yes for so many years going by the studio versions, seeing the lives, makes me feel more like being there (god I wish). Even if you do it privately, you have to watch the long version of Moby Dick, Bonham will blow you away. Sadly you can’t find the 40 minute version of Dazed & Confused, unless you watch another’s older reaction, Jimmy goes wild I know you’d love both of those. Different songs at different concerts, are out of this world, since they are always different. I still say, when you do a live of Since I’ve Been Loving You, it has to be MSG (1973) not debatable LOL. Thanks for a great Saturday.

Insane is the correct term. It's fantastic since this concert has been available with this good sound quality. Unfortunately, I don't know of any earlier ones with roughly the same standard, although they would be musically interesting, such as Fillmore West 1969. A little later, Whole Lotta Love was played live for the first time and only later appeared on LZ II.

About Jimmy’s guitar, he painted that on there, he at one time went to art school. If I remember correctly, someone borrowed his guitar, & removed the painting. I saw that in an interview, I can’t remember who did it, but I’m sure Jimmy wasn’t happy.

  • @IZZY_EDIBLE
    @IZZY_EDIBLE 6 місяців тому

That's no Fender Telecaster, man. That's the '69 Gibson Les Paul that Joe Walsh sold to Jimmy Page.
Page wanted a bigger sound, and Walsh said, "Try this one." That sunburst Paul became Jimmy's number one go-to guitar, and basically replaced the Tele he used for the first album and tour.
However, he continued to use that Tele in certain spots when recording in the studio. It was the guitar he used to play the solo on Stairway To Heaven.

Often those little pics pop up on lives, they don’t last long. With the lives, you often can tell how much Plant loves Jimmy’s solos, later they were getting out of hand.

I love seeing you guys in your uppers teens, 20s and early 30s come face to face with Zeppelin.
You see what garbage you are getting passed off to you as music - though there are some outstanding artists today in popular music and hip hop - you are still being robbed.
You guys then come up against the stuff your parents and grandparents listened to and are totally blown away.
It is not just this whole generational thing of the older people chucking at you who are younger. It's that we are upset you are not being given music you can be proud of and pass down to your children and grandchildren. Music you are being sold a bill of goods.
If more artists were like Billie Eilish, or Jay Z or Beyonce or Foo Fighters or some of the other few really good artists and you heard pure music like what you heard today with Zeppelin then we would be cheering. Most of us older people are open to new sounds and artists. It's that there is just not the quality and true music and you are getting ripped.
There are artists I like today. But, so much is garbage. I feel bad for your generation and my granddaughters. And frankly I have one who loves Queen. And is just starting to hear and like Zeppelin - not by me. She found them somewhere else but found me to be a long time Zep Head. I don't say much to her until she is ready to come to me and want to know more if ever.
We in the older generation had such a rich experience in music and now more and more kids are leaving the listening and culture of music because it is so disappointing.

Live versus studio ? BOTH . Fashion - they came out of the sixties . London was at the centre of both fashion and music. RP was more at the hippy end of the fashion trends while JP was more of a hipster. Male fashion in the second half of the sixties was very elaborate and colourful, you'll see it as you check out live perfomances - frilly patterned shirts, velvet trousers and so on. At some stage you will want to dive back into Jimmy Page while he was still in the Yardbirds, his previous band and trust me you ain't seen nothing yet- fashions based on 18 century dandies . And then of course he developed his stage costumes dragon suit, poppy suit, stars and so on. Even now at 80 the man is a syle icon, he rocks a frilly cuff , leather jackets , silk scarves and bespoke tailored suits of unique style. I don't know why men don't still wear velvet and chiffon, the world is a duller place. The musical performance of this goes without saying - perfection and weren't they enjoying themselves.

I HAD EVERY ALBUM AS IT CAME OUT AND SAW THEM TWICE LIVE AND SAW PAGE AND PLANT LIVE 4 TIMES AND ONCE SAW JIMMY PAGE AND THE BLACK CROWES!!! ALWAYS DO THE ORIGINAL ORIGINAL STUDIO FIRST FIRST FIRST NO ONE HEARD LIVE TIL THE 6TH ALBUM WHAT MADE THEM WAS THE ORIGINAL STUDIO AND YOU WILL NOT APPRECIATE THE DIFFERENCE THAT THE LIVE CAN BE YOU PICKED THE WRONG WHOLE LOTTA LOVE AND SHOULD DO THE FULL VERSION FROM MSG 1973 IT IS THEM AS THE BEST EVER OF ALL TIME LIVE GO BACK AND DO THE RIGHT VERSION UNCUT IF YOUR SERIOUS
