Back in the day I don’t think we really appreciated how good these guys were. We knew it was great music but now all these years later it’s become apparent they were in a league by themselves.
This is live from the Royal Albert Hall in 1970. Zeppelin opened the show on a tear with two songs off this album, We’re Gonna Groove and I Can’t Quit You Baby. It’s an amazing performance that you’ll have to check out after this album. The whole show is fire. 🔥
I thought it was from a soundcheck (hence no crowd noises), but I can't remember where I heard that from though. Matters not really, that was a remarkable performance. Much better than their original studio recording.
@@JeffJefferyUK I suspect the sudden cut off is because the the band and sound crew started talking. The actual concert performance is much better from Plant, Page and JPJ because of the presence of the audience. Bonzo did more in the sound check because setting him up would be way more complex than the others. Multiple mikes to position and balance.
Ya never get 'finished' with Zep ;) There's always repeat value discovering in between patterns, melodies, and phiiosophical insight. Thanks for shining the light
After you finish coda you guys absolutely must listen to "bbc sessions" Zeppelin was firing on all cylinders in bbc sessions. hands down some of there greatest concert recordings .
Bonzo frequently played with the fat end of the stick hitting the drums which gave it a little more thump. One critic even called his style, "ham fisted". Greatest rock band to ever roam the earth. I went to a Zeppelin concert at the old Capital Center in Landover Maryland around 73. Security closed most of the entrances to control the inflow of the rowdy crowd. A large mob formed of people trying to get in. You could hear the band crank up "Dazed and Confused" from outside of the building and all hell broke loose. Police on horseback came charging across the parking lot with batons drawn and started whacking people on the head to break it up. It reminded me of the scene in Doctor Zhivago when the Cossacks charged on horses and slaughtered protesters with swords during the Bolshevik Revolution. Those were the days when rock ruled the world!
That’s a great account sir. I was born in 69’ and grew up loving their music but was just a kid when I heard Bonham had died. I’m thankful for many things in my life but god I hope I can one day time travel back to see Led Zeppelin live in their prime. We can only imagine the excitement and the greatness.
John Bonham is a beast, and this album represents him to the fullest extent. this takes me back to Zeppelin 1 and 2. Just don't get no better than this. keep on rocking my friends
If you love Led Zeppelin, 0:02 I Can't Quit You Baby (Live at The Royal Albert Hall 1970) the you need to do a reaction to the whole live concert. The Best Concert Ever!
I read several comments saying this was live from the Royal Albert Hall, January 1970. The CODA album version is actually the *sound check* from before that performance.
I love this version. It’s definitely more raucous than the studio version. They’re all killing it, incredible dynamics… and Bonham is totally on fire in this performance. 3:40
LMAO! "Is this a Bonz...showin off...showcase?...showin' off... (Jimmy steps up) ...Or...or...a Jimmy Page/Robert Plant??" Answer: YES. Also, there IS a vid of this, note for note the same, and it's SPECTACULAR! We are privileged to see Bonham and the other three glory in their talent(s) onstage (It's a filmed sound check, Royal Albert Hall, 1970). JPJ moves around quite a bit as well, and he and Bonzo sort of make stank faces at each other, lol! More great Bonz coming on this one, guys! And the rest of 'em, of course! "Darlene" is a keeper!
This is a slightly edited version of their live performance of the song during their 1970 Royal Albert Hall Concert, the same one from which you heard "We're Gonna Groove". That concert is well worth a watch, as is the full version of this song as they performed it!
Zeppelin is a whole different experience live. The same songs from the studio recordings end up with a different feel, even more complexity in their impromptu-feeling magic, longer solos, etc. I only regret not having been born sooner to go see them! Looking forward to more reactions to their live stuff! 🔥🔥🔥
I was a freshman in college and my roommate and I hitchhiked to Charleston WV (about 3 hours away) to see them. It was worth whatever danger we might have put ourselves in. 😎
Saw the comments that this was live, I thought it was one of their live studio jams. LZ used to record on their airplane, couldn’t tell you off the top of my head which ones they recorded in the air, but I think a few on Physical Graffiti were.
Che says, “It’s over??” (4:49 😧). My feelings exactly! 😂 La, I wish that I could still rock’n-roll this 68 y/o head’n-neck like you do.. hell, wouldn’t be able to get outa bed the next day! 👴🏻😬 GREAT reaction, as always, Fellas!!! 👍😀
please listen to Celebration Day Live from 1973 MSG concert.... in my dull opinion is one of the BEST example of their live energy....unbeliavable the way just four people with the right equipment can shake half a county just with raw sound pressure and perfection.....
Agreed, tho, as they are I think gonna start watching more Zep vids once the albums are done, I would say they should WATCH both Rock and Roll and CD as they open that show, especially before all the "fantasy sequence" stuff starts, lol.
They were all showing off in this one, fellas. Wow, vocals, guitar bass and drums, amazing one of my favorites. You guys are a Beacon of light in a world of darkness. Music The ultimate escape from reality. Thank you, God bless.
Zep had a song called fire around the end of their run that they never properly recorded I wish they had it would have been another classic.check it out of you can find it.
Bonham was just silly good I played drums a little and last night I had the pleasure of sitting at drums ,I was talking to drummer Jeff Campatelli about doing triplets and my foot work. He said do this pointing to the foot pedal. As I did that he very nicely said use both pedals 😂. Then he said keep doing that and now do your paradiddles at the same time Yikes ! 👍
A Willie Dixon cover live at the Royal Albert Hall January 9th 1970, Jimmy's birthday, the whole concert available. No guitar overdubs like in We're Gonna Groove, but again hidden from the audience and an abrupt end. However, there is a great long 6:38-video on the official LZ-youtube-channel.
I love this version, but I've only heard it a few times so was expecting them to go right into "How Many More Times." Also, I think John Paul Jones deserves a shout out too.
This is a live version from 1970 at Royal Albert Hall...I actually have the whole concert saved on my hard drive! You guys have to see there live performances to really appreciate the greatness. Me and my homeboys have plenty of times poured up some drinks and just sat down and watched the whole concert!
This is from January 9th 1970 Royal Albert hall. Jimmy Page's 26th birthday. It's slightly edited but you can find the entire performance somewhere on youtube. I found it funny that at the end of the solo, Robert Plant says, "Jimmy page, lead guitar," was edited out.
Jimmy was pressed by contract to put out new material. He took a couple AMAZING live performances, remastered them and cut out crowd noise in order to provide the sound of something not heard before. They did that shit in their sleep.
Just another example of why they were FIRE back in their day !!! Live Zeppelin always a trip, different from studio and never the same. @airplaybeats: you should really review the Original “The Song Remains the Same” album. I think the versions on there are better than the remastered.
When you guys get to their live stuff you’re really guna trip their studio music is great and their live stuff is a whole other level of greatness I can’t wait to see your reactions to that stuff
I have read that this is a sound check recording from the Royal Albert Hall 1970 performance. The actual concert was filmed and recorded as well. The actual performance is a little different.
Thought I read it was an air check from a pre concert warm up. Been waiting for you to get to this, or 8 or so tracks off the Live at the BBC recording, 2 of which are different versions of this same song. It was hearing this type of stuff that put them on another level for me, stuff l never heard growing up listening to rock radio.
this is the live version from royal albert hall concert in 1970. second song in right after " were gonna groove". This is one of the live concert videos ive been trying to get you guys to react to.
I'm coming a little late to this reaction and don't have much to add except to say that Jimmy didn't do much to this one other than remove the audience sounds and added a very minimal bit of guitar overdubbing. Also, I'd like to acknowledge what everyone else has said that this is from an amazing performance from Royal Albert Hall in 1970 and I hope you get to the live performance of the concert.
In the studio of this off their 1st album, there's a drum roll at the end that transitions straight into How Many More Times. It's the dopest thing on the planet.
That was done because Jimmy was trying to fool disc jockeys at radio stations into playing more than one Zeppelin song at a time. They did it frequently in the first two albums
Hi guys. Imo if you can try and watch all there live stuff. There's so much. Of course my favorites are the song remains the same movie and Albert hall and celebration day in 2007. Of course 2007 was Jason Bonham but he did a great job for his dad.
All live, no overdubs during a SOUNDCHECK in January, 1970. Mind blowing!
Traveling Riverside Blues. Whewwww. Check it.
The Mighty Zeppelin 🤘
Can’t wait till you guys get to travelling riverside blues 🔥👊🔥🔥🔥
Put a stamp on that. Best band ever!
They were dynamic back in those early years..
I didnt want it to end either!😂
I love watching you guys react to Led Zeppelin!!
You guys would be fun to hang with and listen to Led Zeppelin with! (Really any and all music!)
Back in the day I don’t think we really appreciated how good these guys were. We knew it was great music but now all these years later it’s become apparent they were in a league by themselves.

Anyone else waiting for them to see the Royal Albert Hall 1970 concert?
One of their greatest live performances.
Yep,this is live from the Royal Albert hall 1970
The video of this one is fire! Live from Royal Albert Hall, 1970.
Ya never get 'finished' with Zep ;) There's always repeat value discovering in between patterns, melodies, and phiiosophical insight. Thanks for shining the light
It was Freestyle in the studio, before they tightened it up!! Jam session/Rough take!!! Awesome!!!
Che is right. Live at The Royal Albert Hall 1970. Good stuff guys!
You guys should react to the full 1970 Royal Albert Hall concert!
Wow that's 🔥🔥🔥
January 9, 1970 (Page's birthday), live at the Royal Albert Hall.
After you finish coda you guys absolutely must listen to "bbc sessions"
Zeppelin was firing on all cylinders in bbc sessions.
hands down some of there greatest concert recordings .
Yep. Some good ones coming up. That snare drum is unequaled in history. ✌️

That is live version from Royal Albert Hall 1970 show. You must see this Jimmy's birthday live show! The Band was on fire.
For real! There's even a half minute or so more as they 'warm up" for this epic "sound check"!
It was the pre-show sound check. Plant mentions Page's name during the actual concert
Not a sound check. Roberts call out of Jimmy was edited out. So was Bonham's final finish
@@tektoniks_architects Read the cover notes on the album sleeve: rarerecordcollector.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/coda-inner-2.jpg
@@tektoniks_architectshate how they did that. Cut off jimmys solo & Roberts last verse

Any Zeppelin is a great listen! You're gonna love all their live performances!! That was live.
Hands down the greatest band to ever walk the face of the Earth. In my opinion 😊
Thank You Thank You for reacting to “Coda” 🔥❤️🎸🤘🏼
This is the live version from the royal albert hall. The guitar on this is insane

These dudes were in their early twenties!
You Bros. have become Led Zeppelin experts right before our eyes. As we would say back in the day, "right on man". 😎
Yeah, this has to be that live performance from Royal Albert Hall in 1970. Great to watch!
I read several comments saying this was live from the Royal Albert Hall, January 1970.
The CODA album version is actually the *sound check* from before that performance.
Well if you watch the LZ dvd live show from the Albert Hall it's this performance. A slight bit of editing in the beginning.
Same as the live show but Page edited it for the album
The album only gets better!!
I love this version. It’s definitely more raucous than the studio version. They’re all killing it, incredible dynamics… and Bonham is totally on fire in this performance. 3:40

Someone commented below that its a sound check at Royal Albert Hall. The album credits this recording as such.
