Winds in eyewall of Laura, power flashes, and daytime damage shots from Lake Charles
Why on earth are people out driving in the middle of a landfalling Category 4 hurricane?!
My guess.....stupidity
my guess is all the storm chasers, news crews, etc all had the same idea for where they wanted to be to get footage of the hurricane and still be some what safe.
Both comments are correct
Storm chasers. They're nuts.
Just look at Jeff
GOD BLESS EVERYONE WHO WENT THROUGH THIS HURRICAN
I passed Maria in 2017 and don't EVER wanna see anything like this again, Horrendous!!
FOCUSST lived thru Charley and Irma. More than enough. And the poor folks in the Panhandle that never received meaningful help. Area still in ruins.
stayed home during ike, rita, and harvey. laura was very close but it shifted to right so feel very fortunate
ME TO 🇵🇷
@@johnperic6860 That is a hideous sentiment.
@@tifi4220 how do you people live through such devastation?
We were spared barely in southeast texas. Laura made a sharp turn at the last second. I am sorry Lake Charles you have my prayers.
Same here! Went through Hurricane Harvey and don’t EVER want to go through one like it again.
It is not pretty out here. Constantly see helicopters flying over, army landing in the fields, roads blocked by power poles... It feels like a war zone.
Ben Nagem I feel for y’all and will be praying. I remember all of the boats and helicopters during Harvey too. War zone is definitely the phrase that comes to mind
@@bennagem2965 Praying for you all.
It’s so fascinating to see how a hurricane looks with the winds spiraling. From some videos it looks just like it’s blowing in one direction
Perspective: it’s spiralling if you observe from a great distance. In the midst of the very large storm you’ll only perceive one direction blowing
The dangerous part of hurricanes is the shifting of the wind. The building get use to 1 way, then get blasted from the other side before settling. That's what causes the damage besides items flying around.
Brandon Caldwell problem is that is what happens to us in FL but we will have strong building codes. They were updated I think in 2012?
people still driving, like i got to have a big mac , now
Some are from National Geographic and Storm Chasers out filming, getting footage.
Hope Burger King is still open
@@IanZuczuski Looks like Wendy's got too much Wend!

Is it me or do hurricanes always make landfall at night? Anyone else notice this? Lol
I don’t remember seeing a hurricane making landfall at noon...
Positive vibes to all residents of gulf area! Stay safe!
I've always wondered about that too! When you find out post so ill know lol!
Katrina made landfall during the day (6:00 a.m.)
Nah, theres been a bunch that hit in daylight.
Storms that make landfall during the day are usually stronger than those that do at night
more make landfall during the day. We have more day light hours thin the summer.
These reporters risk their lives to bring us this coverage of these hurricanes and MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS

Check out that cell phone tower. Looks like Godzilla walked by it. Definitely some destructive winds in this storm. Hope everybody stayed safe. Great Footage Brett. Thank you
That wasn't a little cell tower. That's the broadcast tower of one of our local TV stations. A big heavy duty thick steel tower.
The good thing is it wasn’t near as bad as they thought. Storm surge wasn’t bad and it was a fast moving storm so it didn’t have time to leave a ton of rain
Finally someone logical about this in the comments lmao. Some people were saying it was a hoax or something cause it didn't rain like we thought it would in Houston.
It is never as bad as "Thought" because the media uses fear tactics.
OneMore Thing Don't care. Compare this to the other hurricanes we got and come back.
storm surge was never about rain water.
it is all about sea water pouring up, dragged along by the wind.
that is why in some places (mainly in coastal area), potentially, it was as devastating as tsunami in japan but in much smaller area.
look up the philipine storm surge disaster caused by typhoon haiyan, it wrecked almost entire local coastal community.
edit this is my reply @kezzex.
Oh yeah, because telling people to prepare for the worst because evidence points towards the possibility of that scenario rather than saying "Nah it's cool bruh" and risking people's lives is using 'Fear Tactics' and not 'Basic common sense'.
LOOKS LIKE MORE WIND THAN WATER. AND MOVED QUICKLY. THIS WAS AS A GOOD THING.
Bad at the same time. If the wind was strong, it could break things and use them as projectiles.
@@_wetbread Definitely bad. I was in a blizzard with ferocious winds and almost died, but not from the snow. From the horizontally spinning stop sign that the wind had ripped off of its pole that came so close to decapitating me that it nicked my ear.
At 150 miles per hour, it's definitely bad but it's better than a flood too. Lots of clean up and repairs to come for a while.
It did flood. Just not shown in this video. We have whole towns down here under water.
@@madisonperry7417 I'm watching the devastation on tv right now.....horrible, just heartbreaking. Sending you and those affected my deepest sympathy from Buffalo, New York.
I can’t believe I went through this it’s so weird what has changed in the last 4 months everyday just feels odd it feels like a nightmare from this to COVID to just everything going on the world
Irma scared the hell out of me. We were blessed that we didnt get hit nearly as hard as Puerto Rico. The tornados pop up everywhere 😱
I was there during both Irma and Maria and I gotta tell you I am traumatized for the rest of my life.
Best wishes and prayers to everyone in Lake Charles and the surrounding area. I live in southeast Louisiana, but I occasionally teach classes for McNeese State University. I know many people in the Lake Charles area and have several relatives in southwest LA; luckily they are all safe although some have lost their homes. I am thankful that there wasn't a greater loss of life than there was, but any loss is too much not to mention all of the people who have lost their homes and/or their businesses. I hate to see the environmental damage in the area as well. I can only hope that the people who are suffering get the help that they need. It is so upsetting to see what everyone in the area is going through at the moment. The covid-19 pandemic makes things even more challenging for those suffering from this storm. On a side note, this video is very well done. It shows the true power and strength of a hurricane, and the potential dangers that people face when one of these storms makes landfall.
too bad they were east of the eye of the hurricane, riding one out is tough but if you've ever had the chance to have the eye pass over you it's one of the most surreal experiences you'll ever have
There's a video of Michael's eye and it looked surreal even then. Can you describe your experience please? I'd love to hear it.
Ha ha ha Katrina survivor
@@inuloveskago many many years ago I had to go work during hurricane Fran along with my roommate, that was a cat 1 when I went out in it, we managed to dodge some falling tree's and make it 18 miles to the office building, while we were there the eye passed right over us and we went outside, it was mostly calm, like a light breeze at the beach, no rain, it just felt weird, not sure how long but after a while things picked up again and we stayed in the building till it was over, then it took 4hrs to get home
@@cntrldfision5746 Did you get to see a round swirl of clouds to indicate the eye? owo the michael one was perfectly round.
I'm glad you stayed safe!
@@inuloveskago yes I did, don't remember if it was perfectly round but it was clearly defined
This hurricane was epic. It seemed as if it didn't want to go away. The amount of power those winds had was unbelievable unless you were in them. I don't wish that agony on anyone. Thank God we made it.
Everyones talking about the people driving...

well........not everyone can afford a ticket. lolzz
Hearing all the fire alarms echo throughout the city is one of the most eerie sounds after a hurricane. Videos I watched after hurricane Michael were just as eerie with only the sounds of those alarms and seeing no people around!
I can't imagine what it would have been like for early sailors on square-rigged ships to encounter these storms with no warning and no idea of their power.
Joseph Astier fun fact~~ the average hurricane uses as much energy in a DAY as the entire US uses in 6 months!
Joseph Astier
Sailors knew when a bad storm was approaching. They read the sky and the sea. But they couldn’t do anything about it.
@john probst Funny af. And true.
The perfect storm

3:23 Whoever installed that window I want their phone number!!!
If we're going to be having more of these catastrophic storms due to global warming then we need to rethink and plan how we build and where we build otherwise there will be tens of billions of dollars spent to rebuild after these incidences every few years.
The masks have stopped global warming.
Gotta love when people decide to drive out in the middle of the storm. And also putting on their emergency lights like that does anything.
Did that guy really stop at the red light?
Traffic laws still apply.
Who are all of the people outside in their cars? Police? Storm Chasers? Nuts? A very scary scene. The daylight shots are very telling. Thanks for both day and night video.
Law enforcement does still require to do rounds for looters, keeping an eye on damage and flooding. Chasers are out too for the reporting.
Watched that Wendy’s take a beating live last night on another Chasers Facebook. Craziness.
I cannot understand why people were out driving during this but it was able for us to see that blowing rain with their headlights!! I have never seen blowing rain look like they are parked in front of the ocean. Great video really covered so much...beyond heartbreaking for all people involved!!
There's enough people in the world to stop poverty, hunger, loneliness, homelessness and yet you don't , why ?
Selfishness
Because people would have to work together. The key word here is work. But if they worked then they would not be any of these things. Laziness and selfishness outweigh altruism.

Facts!
You do great footage on live storms and keep people up to date as to what is taking place. By the Grace of God everyone is safe during the horrific times.
1:20 That stop sign is not having a good day.
I must laugh a little. My first ride in a storm, watching from your camaras, 100,000 of us were left in the car across from Wendys! It was an amazing night and will never be forgotten!
How many beers does it take to make going for a drive a good call?
Donald Intlekofer it’s just a thunderstorm
Yes.
They were on a beer run

Gracious! At the number of people caught out in this mess.
We were praying for you, our neighbors just to the south. And we pray still for your rebuilding.
Amazing footage.🌀💦
Mother nature is beautiful. Normal people wouldn't understand. Live your life to the fullest.
OMG that’s crazy damage, very lucky it wasn’t a cat 5. Hope everyone is ok and my thoughts are with those with this monster in it’s path
I poop cat 5s! Easy peasy. Get over it.
They don't give you any metals for staying. I am glad it appeared that most evacuated. I went through Irma and I will never stay for another one again.
Hopefully you dont give matals! I did get a medal for this epic D i got though. Dumbass
It’s time for laws to change in LA. They need to enforce the codes for hurricanes. Shutters especially
What really needs to be done is laws to prevent building near the east coast, Period. Leave the beaches for everyone. This constant build and rebuild, insurance payouts, government help which amounts to our tax dollars is absolute insanity.
I rode out Hurricane Michael in Panama City, and I can only hope people left. I have decided after Michael, I won't ride out another. Lake Charles made it out better than predicted, but you always have to suspect worst case scenario.
Amen to that. Tornadoes more danger then Hurricanes. Hope We are spared this year. 2020 be gone with You. Smdh
Repent and believe the Gospel! Jesus loves you and me!! Repent and put ur faith and trust in Him today! He loves you and died for youuu!

Too bad it wasn't called "Hurricane Karen." That would have been apropos...

All kidding aside, that absolutely sucks, and our prayers are with all in the path of Laura...
Karen was a name used last year, however it remained a weak storm with minimal impact. Maybe when it's used again in 2025 it'll be something.
All of you trying to protect yourselves and family. Your in our prayers.
2020 has been nothing but devastation in multiple aspects!
No videos or pictures can adequately capture the destruction of hurricanes Laura and Delta. They were devastating and their effects are still seen and felt throughout Lake Charles today. Many are still displaced almost a year later as battles with insurance companies ensue and the shortage of skilled and licensed contractors evidenced. Many businesses will not reopen, landscapes are distorted for years, debris still lines the streets, shoulders of the hwys, damaged telephone poles are propped up by replacements, infrastructure damage abounds, abandoned homes and businesses throughout, price hikes everywhere, and rain showers bring the threat of added floods. We thank God that there was a mass evacuation and that the storms weren't coupled with the amounts of water initially expected. We thank you for your prayers and support. We thank God for our beloved city and people. May the Lord be with us and may He speak peace to the winds, waves, and storms of life, draw our city and nation to Himself and grant us His abiding Hope.
Please quit saying I'm 5he wrath from hell,I'm not
Laura bless your heart! Be glad you’re name’s not Katrina
Reading some of the comments on this is very heart breaking. Some say it wasn't that bad because we didn't flood, some say it was a good thing it moved fast. Coming back home to see my home and town destroyed, there is not a single spot in my town and neighboring towns that don't have damage. This storm was the 4th strongest storms to hit the US in ever and the strongest storm to hit southwest Louisiana in 150 years. This was stronger than Katrina. But, I guess if it was new Orleans that was hit by Laura people would care more. People are going without water and power for weeks if not months. People are running out of money to pay for hotel stays because their homes are demolished. People are running out of money for food. But, yall just keep talking about how this storm wasn't as bad as originally thought.
Need one of these to hit Wisconsin and Portland, just make it last for 80 days straight. The strong will survive.
Toyo-boy well, Wisconsin winter lasts about six months and can be brutal so . . .
Facts!
By the way, are you the ones that were live broadcasting last night on the MyRadar app?
Compared the the devastation I'm seeing in the rest of the world, this looks like a walk in the park.....
Dan Harris then you’ve never had to recover from one of these. It’s not the Congo, but it’s hell for America.
Agreed
Do you live here?? Did you have to experience the destruction firsthand? I did, and it wasn’t a walk in the park. 🤦🏻♀️ ignorant comments like like these always tell me that people don’t live here.
Maybe I could’ve shown y’all the neighborhood five minutes down the road from me absolutely torn to shreds. And I would’ve loved to show you guys my master bathroom too. And my neighbors homes. Also let me guess again that you didn’t have to drive back to your home and be met with power poles and debris blocking every which way you turn. The sickening feeling not knowing what you will be faced with when you turn on your road.. no it wasn’t a walk in the park. Still to this day here in LC, scars are still prominent. Matter of fact on September 7, 2024 they’re gonna implode that glass building you guys saw because the force of the storm made the structure unstable.
wow, people driving during a hurricane cat 4..i think people from the USA are not used to this so they dont understand how dangerous is that cause of the flying debris
Those drivers are storm chasers and meteorologists... People in the USA are quite familiar with hurricanes, especially in the southeast.
@@WinterSoldier7207 quite familiar¿¿ not really, most of the time are just Tropical storms or ramnants not major hurricanes
@@shiroumxm2052 It's not as if the United States' east coast, and the gulf of Mexico only started experiencing hurricanes ten years ago, dude. We're familiar with the dangers of both minor and major hurricanes. The people who drive in these conditions on purpose are either stuck because they've run out of time to prepare and/or evacuate, or they're there deliberately in the name of meteorological science.
And there's another one coming right behind this onethat's why everybody was told to get out of there so now that you have the chance get out of there while you can
No this one was behind another one but it weakened into less than a tropical storm, while this one actually stayed a hurricane

They wanted cheeseburgers.
Chlorine gas leak in the west lake area off I-10. Maybe that is what one the storm chasers smelled last night.
I wonder if that's the same plant that was going to ride it out and keep operating, but then decided to close at like 10pm. Safe shutdowns may not be possible on such short notice.
If chlorine then deadly gas.
I smelled some gas but it wasn't chlorine.
